Straight from the box, our Classic Wimshurst Machine is ready to go...screw in the handle, lower the collection arms and literally start cranking out 250kV. Our Active Statics Classic Wimshurst Machine was designed to be something James Wimshurst, the 19th century developer of these iconic machines would recognize. Thats why we call this our "Classic Wimshurst Machine". Our adjustable spark gap gives you the option producing smaller, but more frequent (up to a several per second) discharges or less frequent but enormous, 5+ inch sparks (1 with every few rotations of the handle). Although classic in appearance, our Wimshurst Machine features 12" rotating discs made of tough, clear PMMA polymer, 17 times stronger than glass. Our ultra efficient static charge collecting brushes feature conductive polymer construction and will not scratch discs. We designed our Leyden jars (capacitors) our be long and thin, resulting in extra long, but low current sparks.
