I still love this album and can remember buying it the day it hit our shores. I am almost 60 and, quite frankly, I am too old to be doing a couple of blasts or dropping a few bennies for a pick me up - but God as my witness if this album hits the turn-table or CD slides in, or even if the digital version gets turned on (and I have all of The Clash music on all 3 of those platforms) I do not need any artificial stimulants to get me up. From the opening notes of "Clash City Rockers" or "Janie Jones" (depending on if I'm listening to the U.S. or U.K. version) my pulse begins to quicken and different parts of my body begin to take a beating because I either start slapping the top of my knees or drumming on a counter with the palms of my hands. Then all hell breaks loose. The change the came over me when this music (which also includes The Pistols, The Ramones, Dead Boys, Elvis C, and a bunch of others that I won't bore you with) came out was unbelievable. I had been huge into The Stones, Zeppelin and The Who and all of those bands that we now call Classic Rock and then after buying this album, plus "Never Mind The Bullocks", "The Ramones" & "My Aim Is True", in what seemed like overnight (but was actually about 2 weeks), I was cutting my long hair off and was dying my hair blonde then black. All of this was because of this music. It changed me forever.

One of the all-time greatest punk albums.
There is not a bad track on this amazing punk classic. Joe Strummer and company show the seeds of what would fully bloom in their classic "London Calling" LP.

Here They Come
Picked up on the Clash way back in the day with their second LP, "Give 'Em Enough Rope". That one had me from the git, starting with the drive of "Safe European Home" and "English Civil War". Then came "London Calling", considered, of course, a classic. Somehow, I never did have a copy of the Clash's first album until now, and I find it to be an impressive debut. First of all, considering it from its perspective of historical importance in rock music. They did a whole lot to re-invigorate rock, obviously, as pioneers in the punk rock movement. "Clash City Rockers" kicks it off with a Who-like riff that is followed with "I'm So Bored with the U.S.A.", followed in a bit with "Complete Control" and then "White Riot". These guys were tearing it up. "(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais" brings in the reggae influence they would show off on further records. "London's Burning", "I Fought the Law", then "Janie Jones", and the boys just keep firing. The Clash were amazing, and those first three records rank way up there for an initial trio of LPs for any rock band.

The only band that mattered.
Like so many of my musical loves of the past this is the first time I have owned this album in vinyl. It's one of the great debut albums of all time.
