The plastic thumb lock mechanism did not last
I bought this handle 3 months ago and the lock has worn out. I have asked Five Oceans about this. There is a 1 year warranty. I will let you know how they handle it.Update: I contacted them they responded immediately and sent me a replacement

Excellent for lighter usage
It has a nice upward angle to it, light weight and visible. The bottom square part is plastic not metal so I don’t think it will hold up under heavy usage but time will tell. Excellent value for the money.

Cheaply made, release knobs barely work
Not worth the money you’d save. I bought these and have used them a few times. But straight out of the box one of the release levers/knobs didn’t work and the other one failed shortly after. It feels cheap when you try to release it off a winch and have to put a lot of effort into the release lever. Also the only metal part on these (where it inserts into the winch) is corroding quickly. I have some 40 year old winch handles that have held up better. I won’t buy these again. I have an a Titan plastic winch handle that is of similar design much much better quality. Should have bought another one of those.

Good Quality Winch Handle for Light Work
Winch handle came on time and as described. Handle is light weight and the eight inch model works well at the mast where a longer handle is hard to maneuver. The one draw back is the handle once locked into the winch will pull out if minor force is applied upward on the handle. The lower locking Lub is made of soft plastic which distorts when force is applied allowing the handle to pop out of the winch. Care must be used when using this winch handle especially when grinding on big winches where a lot of force is being applied. Blue skies and fair winds to you all. Be good, stay safe, and live well.

Fairly priced handle, not very durable
I ordered this handle as I did not want to pay 2x more for identical looking and feeling product (even same colors) from well known winch makers. In the first few days of use the base square plate broke off, albeit without affecting the products functionality. But, now after several weeks of use, the metal part seems to show signs of material fatigue with visibly abrasion signs on the teeth of the metal part.Again, the functionality of the product is not affected but, compared to my 20 year old winch handle and based on my observations listed above, I am reluctant to trust this product.

Solid product but if you drop in the water good luck finding it
It is of good quality but don't expect to find it if it drops in the water when there is a bit of turbulence in the water. It floats but just under the surface so unless you can grab it before you drop the main and jib to get it you are most likely not going to find it unless the water is glassy. Gonna order another and figure out a way to make it float better and be more visible in the water. Would have given 5 stars if it floated better and a little above the water or made it more colorful.

It indeed floats
Git this as a main winch handle for my 27ft sailboat I teach with. I know new sailors will eventually fumble finger winch handles overboard. This sucks when it's a $55 lewmar winch handle that goes not float. Indeed, when this happened with this handle, it floats just fine. I like that the yellow is easy to see when it's in a halyard bag. It also has a locking mechanism to keep it in the winch. I got the 10".

Handy
This is my second one of these; I just left the old one out of town helping someone step a mast. Easier just to by a new one. Really love this. Fits the hand nice and the 8" model clears the stanchion on my 26 foot MacGregor. The 8" gives plenty of leverage for my jib and also for raising the mast. Got orange and blue again due to the great visibility. Would buy a third time if I need to.

Sturdy. No flex. Visible. Can be installed/removed single-handedly. Doubles as fish whacker.
Been using it for just under 2 years now. Solid construction. Very visible. Lightweight, but doesn't flex. The locking mechanism is spring loaded. On the way in, it locks in place without having to use the trigger. When taking it out, you just trigger with the thumb and pull. Single handedly. On my Catalina, the recess at the bottom of the winches was too shallow to accommodate the blue plastic locking tab of this handle, so initially, I could use it to winch, but it wouldn't lock. I ground the tab down by about 1/32" with a rasp/file and worked great from that point on.Haven't tested buoyancy. Better to have a backup on boat. Not sure I'd be able to double back for that on a windy day. On a leisure day maybe.

Great handle
Bought this after the loss of yet another $150 handle overboard.Figured that losing this would be less painful due to low cost. Handle is great, regardless of price.Recommended.

tight fit, crappy quality
at least the socket fits tight, because the locking mech is useless

nice and light
light and is small enough to use under the dodger

So reasonably priced I bought two.
Cause you know we're going to lose them again.Works well. Only have a couple weeks of sail time on them but have held up so far.
