Great Improvement Over the DM221
This is a fantastic monitor. We just had our third child and this is our third audio baby monitor (never saw the appeal in the video monitors). Five years ago we purchased a Phillips Avent baby monitor. It worked well enough, but had some trouble getting the parent device to "connect" to the charging base and therefore had trouble holding a charge. We purchased the VTech DM221 (silver monitor) for our second child because we didn't want to spend a lot on another monitor. That one had (and still has) linking problems between the parent unit and the child unit. It frequently beeps in the middle of the night and wakes us up. Terribly annoying. So then we had a third child. We chose this one hoping they had improved on the DM221. We love it. We've been using it over two months now and have had no linking problems. It projects this brilliant, crystal clear celestial scene on the ceiling (or wall or wherever you want to put it because it has a swivel base). The fifteen minute scene has parts that fade in and out to keep the child interested. There is also a repeating melody that can play along with it, but the projection can run in silence if you prefer. The monitor gives you a basic menu with volume control, sensitivity control, and sound notification options. We did find there was a little too much white noise on the highest sensitivity so we have that set at three and it has been perfect. I dislike being notified of every insignificant sound coming out of the room anyway. Cries and coughs and speaking come through great - and of course the parent unit has the ability to speak to the child's unit too. It also comes with a two parent unit option if that's something you're looking for. Oh did I mention I bought this for my third baby (currently 5 months and still in our room) but my two year old loves the projection so much it is now in his room. A second unit should be arriving next week. Fantastic monitor with a great mid-range price. Update: Been using this monitor for a year now. It still works great and hasn't had a single connection problem.

Good monitor. I would recommend.
Works great in my 2200 sqft home. Sometimes the parent receiver beeps frequently indicating it was out of range, but it only loses signal for a split second. I can here my baby fine & the beeping doesn't bother me. The talk back feature works well for asking my kids or husband to reach the baby before I can. The illumination on the ceiling is pretty, but my baby isn't old enough to benefit from it yet. It plays soft music, which I personally would have traded for white noise, but that's just what would have worked better for us.

Use it every night
Iโm one of those paranoid moms, so I probably wouldnโt use this if I had a newborn (since I prefer a video monitor at that stage), but this works perfect on the nightstand between my 5 and 2 yr oldโs beds in the room they share. It helps me to keep an ear on whatโs going on in their room and they LOVE the projection feature. Ever since we got this they go to bed with the projection on the ceiling every night. Thereโs an option to play the projection with or without music, and we donโt use it most of the time because itโs more peaceful, in my opinion, to just look at the stars without the extra noise. The projection doesnโt move, but it has 5 (?) sections of projection that fade on and off in varying patterns, and when all sections are displayed at the same time it creates one full circular picture. When used in a dark room, the picture is very crisp and colorful. This really was a great purchase for the money and I would definitely recommend it.

Fantastic design. Unique features.
Ranked in Top 10 of non visual monitors in 2016. We just set it up and went through all features last night. We were very impressed with the amount and quality of features for the low price. Base projection/sound unit is adjusted on a magnetic surface which we found to be very unique and fun to play with as it can be aimed and adjusted at multiple creative angles. The projection quality is impressive. Projection size on the ceiling is approx. 5' in diameter when placed 36" from floor aimed at an 8' ceiling. The lullaby feature seems very quiet compaired to previous units however baby isn't here yet so I will update Pros and Cons after daily use of this feature. The only negative/disappointment we've discovered thus far is that the projection/lullaby can not be turned on using the parent unit. We had hoped to use the parent unit to activate these features from afar, those who have had infant children know that sometimes parents need be be incognito at times!

After 10 years of monitors, I really kind of love this one...
Ok, first off, I never totally felt the need for a video monitor. That being said, my experience is based solely on audio only monitors. I have 3 kids. I've owned many monitors. Usually the most I've gotten out of them is 2-3 years tops but I've always had an extra monitor as backup also. So with all the different features available on the different models, I've come to the conclusion that this one fits the bill. I've also had the best luck with vtech monitors as far as brands go. The talk feature is wonderful. The range and clarity are fantastic. My absolute favorite though is the light projection and music. Some people complain it's loud through the parent unit... Eh, it really doesn't bother me. I just turn the volume on the parent unit down until the music stops, which is 15 minutes. This is really a great monitor. I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles but unless there is a specific reason, I don't see the need for anything more. This works great and my daughter absolutely loves the lights and music.

Seems to work well, but 1000 ft range is probably only applicable in outer space
So far so good. We were using a pair of cordless phones in intercom mode before this, which worked fantastic actually, but the battery life was an issue. We will be using these plugged in almost exclusively. It WOULD be nice if the transmitter had a large rechargeable battery in it for when Baby travels with us or we put her to sleep in odd places, but whatever. The projected mural thing is not really that exciting a feature. As for the vibrate and "audio alert" thing, all I can say is that the baby would have to be in an almost complete meltdown to trigger the audio and / or vibrate alert. I obviously tinkered with the "sensitivity" setting, but it actually didn't appear to have any effect whatsoever on the operation of the device. At any rate, it's great for transmitting sound from one room to another, and the price was right.

LOVE THIS PRODUCT!
I spent two weeks searching for a high quality monitor. Read a ton of reviews and finally went with this one not expecting how wonderful it is!! CRYSTAL CLEAR communication (both ways), the projector is super cute and my little girl loves it. The battery lasted ALL NIGHT fully charged and not plugged in. For about 8pm, to 7:30am. Felt sorta cheap and toyish when I opened it but don't let that fool you! The volume how's very loud. I use it on the lowest setting. Not a fan of the music but that's just matter of opinion. Only bad thing I can say about it is that I read that the sensivity can be turned down in order to block out hearing the white noise machine in my baby's room but that wasn't the case. Not a big deal as I have yet to find one that can do that. All in all, I'd say this was the best $45 I ever spent!

Sound not loud enough, sensitivity is horrible and battery doesn't hold a charge.
I might've gotten a dud, but this unit is horrible. I have the volume up the whole way and I can't hear it. The sensitivity is up the whole way but only loud sounds come through the monitor. The battery in the parent unit does not hold a charge. I'm returning this. :( On a positive note, my girls like the projected stars nightlight part of it.
