## Description

The CRS305 is a compact and very powerful switch, with SFP+ ports for up to 10 GB per port. The device has a 1Gbit Ethernet port for access management and two DC connectors for power supply. The device is a very stylish and compact metal case without any fans, for quiet operation. The device has a double boot" system that allows you to choose between two operating systems – RouterOS or SwOS. If you want to have a simplified operating system with only specific switch, use SwOS. If you would like the ability to use routing and other Layer 3 features in your CRS, use RouterOS. You can select the desired operating system from RouterOS, from SwOS or from settings. All the feature set comes with a disruptive price, providing the best price/performance on the market.

Review: Works just fine as a switch, bit complicated & underpowered for anything else - Bought two of these, using one as a router and the other as a simple switch for in-home 10G runs over fibre. The switch was simple to setup, essentially upgrade to the latest firmware and take the defaults as a bridge. Configuring one as a router on the other hand was anything but simple. Finding answers without having to trawl through YouTube was driving me crazy. This little box is a powerhouse, but needs someone with more patience and time to learn than I do. To get my router setup, I followed the example found on GoWifi's website, which was a godsend (I obviously ignored the wifi parts as they were unnecessary here). If you're in the same boat, Google the following: gowifi beginners guide Mikrotik router I don't own a PC, only Mac's so had no choice but to install Wine, and run Winbox.exe to get this done (at one point, you'll have to connect to the device using the MAC address and not the IP address, which is why you need to use Winbox). Other than not understanding where my backups got saved, it now works. Performance wise, as a switch it works great. A router on the other hand isn't recommended for anything except light (real world 330Mbps max throughput) workloads or for temporary use. If it's a router you need, I'd suggest connecting this to the RB5009UG+S+IN instead.
Review: Excellent, well built, switch. - Bought to extend my home 10G network from one bedroom Ethernet jack to the other end of house through fibre in the loft. Make sure you get the FibreMall 80m 10GBASE-T module if you need Ethernet as it is the only 80m module that reports temperature correctly on these units. Also runs cool and at only 3.255V, so within spec. Got 10Gtek SR fibre modules and they work great too. Switch runs cool, is incredibly well built and performs well with their SwOS. My only criticism is the lack of HTTPS for web management. This is not ok in 2024. Apart from that I love this thing.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can i have a 5gbe device working on the 10gb port (at 5gb speed)?**
A: Haven’t specifically tried 5Gb, but I’ve done 2.5gbe and it worked perfectly! If the SFP supports the multi-gb rates, the Mikrotik will be ok!

**Q: Does this have PoE out on all 4 ports please?**
A: It does not have PoE out on any port. I don't think you can get PoE out of any SFP port on any switch. You can power the switch itself on PoE via the Ethernet RJ45 port.

**Q: Does this device has switch os or router os, what ever this device has what version number this will be supplied.**
A: I've had three of these now and all of them have come with RouterOS enabled by default. It can be changed to SwOS in the menu. They are not very easy as a starter switch so suggest that you do some research first one thing to remeber is that the settings are not transferable between the different modes RouterOS and SwOS, they are completely seperate. There are some caveats to the setup and negatives and positives of using either RouterOS or SwOS to be aware of.

**Q: Does it include a UK power plug?**
A: Mine came with a PSU that had a 2 pin connector for power (non UK), I used a travel adapter to connect up to the wall.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent, well built, switch.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great 10Gbit value managed switch but not for beginners
*by F***N on 31 March 2026*

Firstly, this is not an AI review - hopefully AZ does something about it one day. Even today, this is still the best value managed 10Gbit switch that is in active support. Sure you can get unmanaged, no-name, 10Gbit switches that are even cheaper but if you value your sanity I would not use them as core/main switches. This is not a beginner's switch though. Despite having modern graphical interface utilities (WinBox, etc.) it is a semi-pane-of-glass and pretty much CLI-like interface rather than a simple management GUI. If you have the money and want that - then get Ubiquiti or similar. Mikrotik products are the definition of "utilitarian" with quirky design and features that are not "uniform" and fit nicely with each other in a rack or next to each other. But they do work together even though you may think they belong to different companies. Size-wise it is smaller than you'd expect and has no fan (passive cooling) - if you use it with DAC or optical transceivers it does not get too hot in my view. I would not stuff it with SFP+ to RJ45 10Gbit though that would be too much. I had no trouble with 3-rd party DAC or optical transceivers connecting to Mellanox cards or other switches. Operating system wise, this (also) comes with a choice of RouterOS (for either L2 or L3 routing) or SwitchOs (L2 only). Both are actively supported and likely going for many years to come. IMHO you are better off sticking with RouterOS even for L2 switching only - for consistency with other Mikrotik like actual routers or Wifi APs. While it can do L3 routing due to weak CPU (Arm A7 2-core) this is best used as a switch only. RouterOS has pretty much all features you expect and more (take that Ubiquiti) - e.g. exoteric stuff like support for ROCE/iWARP PFC (e.g. for SMB-Direct RDMA), DANTE (digital audio through Ethernet) and some other features that would otherwise require costly Cisco, Meraki, etc equipment. In conclusion, if you want very cheap buy no-name unmanaged; if you want cool-looking and nice single pane-of-glass easy management buy Ubiquiti. Otherwise - consider Mikrotik ;)
