Q: what does rigid mean?

It's difficult to get a straight answer from Levi's marketing material, but as far as I've been able to tell, Rigid is Levi's marker for their raw (or close to raw) denim. Raw denim has not been washed like most jeans, so the dye is very dark and may rub off on other surfaces. These jeans are also stiff initially because the washing process usually softens up a pair of jeans. There is no distressing in the factory, so the color is uniform throughout. However, over time and wear they will soften up and the color will fade according to how you wear them.
