Great camera and quality for the price.
These outdoor cameras are amazing. I love the image quality. The installation is quick and easy. Just make sure you know something about your WiFi like it’s name and password and you won’t have any problems. Also, no need to sign up for their cloud service. Simply buy the largest Micro SD chip that is appropriate for the camera you get and in a couple of months, you’ll more than save on the cloud service. I find that I can save months’ worth of motion detection. The camera doesn’t pick up cars going down the street, trees or plants moving in the wind, but picks up people or animals in the yard including birds. It has home and away features. Away setting is more sensitive in terms of what it picks up. You can also set it to continuously record, but why? The software gives alerts (if you want) when it does record. Keeps them by date and time. So you can search without scrolling endlessly. I have noticed that once or twice it has missed separate motions when they occurred closely together in time, but not immediately right after each other. All in all, for the money, they are tough to beat. Some folks wished the cord was longer. I can see where that could be an issue, but it wasn’t for my application. If you need to, you can get a USB coupler and add an additional length of USB cord. UPDATE: still love the quality of the image. Couple of things I wanted to mention. I have this at my vacation home in the mountains. If I don’t log onto the same WiFi the camera is on often enough, it will disconnect me and I can’t get back on until I return to the vacation house. The other thing is, the connection got wet where the usb cord from the camera goes into the plug. It rusted. Granted, they had some unusually hard and frequent rains during my absence. That camera stopped working. The other end of the cable is hardwired into the camera. Good thing I had another camera. The connection is now wrapped so it can’t get wet. So I guess it isn’t as waterproof as they say.

Nice picture and motion alerts
I spend a lot of time researching my options for a single WiFi camera to watch my front porch and walkway leading to it. Three things that this camera had made my decision to buy it. 1. Videos can be stored locally on a 32g sd card. (3 days before overwrite) 2. It has CVR (continuous videos recording) 3. No cloud subscription required A nice little camera. Setup was very easy. The camera connected to my WiFi without issue. Solid so far, no disconnects. The app is nice to view remotely. It’s mounted under a covered porch, so it should not get any rain or snow. Routing the wire to a outlet I put in the attic was the most difficult. I ended up cutting the usb cord so I could just put a small hole in the roof of my porch. I reattached the wires once inside by soldering the back together. Their is only two wires inside the white cord to power the camera. That USB connector would require a 3/4 hole. I made a bracket so that I could get it located right where I wanted it. For less than $100 with the sd card, I don’t know how long it will last. It’s my first security camera. I really like my nest thermostat I have had for years and I looked at their outdoor camera, but the continuous payments were a deal breaker for me. I’m sure their are better cameras out there but this one is working out great so far. *UPDATE* 10/23/2018 Camera is still working good, but at times like the YI server goes down or has issues. When the server is down you cannot access your camera. It hasn’t happened often enough to be a problem for me, but it may bother some users. At first I thought the issue was my network. The alerts are working great. Maybe 2 minutes until my phone app notification of motion. If YI could make the app more solid, this thing would be better than the Nest cam and several other higher priced outdoor cameras Update* 3/1/2019 The camera seems to be working fine. I get alerts to my IOS phone app. When I try to view them, their is nothing. It makes the camera useless. It seems to have started when I update my iPhone to 12.1.4. Bummer it was working fine with only minor glitches before the update. I really can no longer recommend this camera. It started off good but quickly became bad.

Great quality views, easy to use app, and easy to customize
These cameras are great. The only downfall is they have to be plugged in. Any person that knows this could easily disable them by cutting the wire... if exposed. But if they are that determined, then bigger problems are in order. I have three installed around my house and we pay for the 30 day video storage that is really cheap for 5 cameras. The install, setup and configure took about 5 minutes for each camera. A huge benefit is being able to easily download a video if you need it for historical purposes. They have great depth, quick alerts, and the app is great. The video quality is amazing and not blurred at all. Unless, you get bugs crawling across the lens. Then it's just freaky! :-) We have been on vacation multiple times while able to view our property, interact with the voice feature to our pets, and the ability to review alerts later in the day. The night vision is very crisp and clear. The ROI and value was realized one day when our neighbors untrained pit bull broke loose and trapped my girlfriend in our back yard for more than 15 minutes. I was able to use the video to show the neighbor who refused to believe their dogs were ferocious. After this, the owner took appropriate steps to secure the animals better. Whereas previous conversations and similar situations, they refused to believe. Additionally, the cameras can view a great distance. The one in front of our house caught a police officer coaxing our dog, who was down the street for a second but within range, into his vehicle. The dog was barely within the required distance. And the video was instrumental in saving me money to get the dog out of the 'pound. I highly recommend these cameras, the app is really easy to learn and adjust to your needs, and being able to download video snippets or whole videos for period of times is the greatest value.

Great Camera but needs some software improvements.
I recently purchased one of these outdoor cameras for our home. So far the system works great. Very clear and seems to have a prerecord of a few seconds. The recording begins before any action is displayed! Awesome! However, there are some much needed improvements. Below are some important improvements that I believe would make this a great system: -Customizable alert sounds in the app to specifically identify that it’s a security alert! Very important especially for iPhones which all notifications have the same sound. Don’t know if it’s a news update or someone on my property. -Push Notifications with every motion. Not 10-5-3 mins. Add Zero minutes cooling off. I want every motion to alert! It appears to continue recording until motion has stopped. I just need more notifications to let me know there’s a lot of movement. Doesn’t act like a security cam if I don’t know anything. -Need to be able to easily download “complete clip”. The only way I’ve figured out how to download the entire even clip is to play it on the phone and hit record. As far as I can tell, the app only allows downloading 6 sec clips easily. Also keep all the data stamps on the video... time, date, camera, etc. -Be able to press an alarm button to immediately scare someone or something away while monitoring the video or add a feature that will sound the alarm sound if motion continues every minute or two. -Alert notification if camera has lost connection or is offline. -Battery backup option -Black cameras/sleeves -Recognize humans/cars You really can’t beat the value! Very well built and professionally packaged. I considered some of the other big names and was looking at nearly $1,000 for a complete system. This will definitely work. Ordering more soon. I’ll give 4 stars for now until they make some updates.

Glitchy at best - See my update -Love it Now after tweaks !!!!!
Camera was fairly easy to set up and the video is nice and clear - BUT - there doesn't seem to be much documentation on the camera and navigating the phone app and computer app is a bit confusing, even though there are not many controls. We were just out to the vet's office with our pooch and while we were gone, we got a UPS delivery. Didn't even pick up the driver bringing the package to the front porch. Should have been clear as day that this was taking place, but it picked up our neighbor leaving their house and coming down the street in the van. What's with that !!!!!! It seems like hit or miss with capturing motion. Inserted an SD card in the outdoor camera, which we just purchased and it doesn't seem to be storing any videos. And the SD card I picked up from Amazon for the indoor camera doesn't even work after being inserted. It just seems difficult to figure out the workings of this camera. Although the price is enticing even that doesn't convince that this purchase was worth it. I was really excited about this system until this writing. I was going to purchase a couple more cameras for both inside and outdoors, but now, I don't think so. Update on Camera 11/15/17 Ok ready to eat my words. After some deep fiddling with this camera and it's associated apps for both my phone and thru the computer, this thing is working like a charm. The SD cards are now working in both the indoor model and the outdoor model. At first I could not get the SD card to work in the indoor version, just removed it and re-inserted it and it seems to be working fine. This camera picks up everything, it even picked up a golf cart driving down the 10th fairway across the street from our house - amazing. The outdoor camera was picking up the flag waving in the breeze on our flag pole in front yard. But a modification on the capture area solved that issue. Figured out how to navigate to and work the timeline when replaying videos. Gonna go out and buy another outdoor camera and set it up at the other corner of the house. Love it now.

software update changes my review stay away.
I really like these cameras. Very good picture and not difficult to install - so long as you have electrical within reach of the cord! My biggest issue with it is that it seems to draw insects to it. Particularly wasps/hornets and flies. I am not sure what draws them to it, but its eerie watching them crawl across the lens! It also picks up raindrops, snowflakes, and moths that fly across the lens within a foot or two. That can be annoying. The other issue I have is it is solely a digital zoom - which can make identification of far away subjects difficult. It would be nice on three of the cameras to be able to zoom in to about half of the distance. (I have 2 of them mounted on my out buildings watching my home and one on the house watching the out buildings) Anyway, I would definitely recommend them with only one uncertain question - how much cold can these cameras tolerate? Last year we dipped to around 5 F for perhaps 12 hours. But we can get much colder than that here in mid Michigan. I will update after this winter. You will get a 6 second video when motion is detected - but thats hardly enough unless perhaps your camera is close to the subject. I dont use the sound feature, though I can see benefits for it if you have children. I have 5 cameras set up (4 exterior and the one inside has motion tracking) for security. I also signed up for the cloud service for all 5 cameras. I do like that feature. Each camera has a blue active light on it which you can turn off. You can also speak through each camera if necessary- once again probably for children. I would recommend these as the set up is easy (was even easier the second time!!!) UPDATE: Recently YI "updated their software. Now the product is awful. Software is no longer user friendly and options are very limited in display. As you can read my previous words - this WAS a great system. Now I would recommend looking elsewhere for a security system. Another update - Nov 9, 2023 - Yi updated their software again without permission and now I have lost service. My account is paid up for 2 more months, yet, I cannot access all video. It fills my viewing area with ads to buy Kami Cloud and I ALREADY have it! I have posted a pic of the screen to which I must view my video footage. This is a crap system. I am tired of all the bugs and its failures. Going to replace the whole system. So far I have had no problems with my Eufy doorbell... Also be wary - it has an automatic renewal.

Great product and great customer service!
I have 2 indoor cameras and one outdoor camera. I use the sd card to store my video. The app is great and easy to use. I wish I would have purchased these a long time ago. I love everything about these cameras and have many co-workers who have also purchased these and love them. I have them in my detached garage which is a good ways from my house. I used a wifi range extender plugged into the wall in my garage to extend the wifi from my house and have the cameras connected to it. I have virtually no lag and love that I can check in whenever I want and also get alerts if anything happens. (Update) After owning the cameras for about 5 months one of the indoor units started getting lines across the screen. This camera always seemed to have a little worse picture quality but I just blamed it on light glare coming from a window beside it. I called YI and they were very helpful. They had me do a few easy tests to see if any of them would help. They replaced it under warranty and I had a new camera in 2 days. The new camera had great quality in the same position so there must have been an issue with it the entire time. I would strongly recommend these not only because they are great products at a great price but because they back there products and have excellent customer service.

Update
Bought two, one for back of house and one for front of house to watch over driveway and cars. I moved my WiFi router to center of house and on a shelf two feet from the ceiling. That way it was close to the attic and between each camera. One out back we got to watch the animals works great. One in front to watch over drive, drops connection about four times a day. The refresh button on app is use less, you have to either unplug camera or router for it to come back online. Useless for guarding drive and cars. Also neither camera gives alerts. They will record a 6 second video to sd card, but you have to check yourself through app, again useless . It only records non stop video if it alerts is if you pay for their cloud service. So if you are buying them for security, better look elsewhere. Update: after contacting YI support through email they worked with me trying to get the camera to work. After no success they sent me a new camera, which arrived yesterday. The one out back is still working great with no issues at all. The other one is off line as I write this. I’m going to mount the new camera today and see how it goes. Hopefully it will work as good as the one in back. Glad they did honor their one year warranty.
