Literally the closest shave, period.
After using a Braun series 5 (two blades) for quite a few years on both head & face, I thought it was time for an upgrade. After much research the two products that had caught my eye after been mentioned time and time again were the Panasonic ARC 5 or the Braun series 9. I bought both to test. Ill try gloss over a few things to get to the main bit: Packaging: Both are excellant, nothing too fancy, but functional. Draw Looks: I think overall the Braun is the nicer looking for most folks, and it certainly feels nice. Though for me, the ARC 5 has an edgyness. For me its a winner for the ARC. Cleaning: Both very good, both cleaning systems work very well though the ARC 5 can be cleaned manally really nicely. Again I prefer the aesthetics of the ARC 5 in the cleaning base, plus the cleaning solution lasts longer and is much cheaper to replace. Win again for the ARC The juicy bit, the bit we all really want to know......the cut: Both perform excellant, but there are some differences that are rather important. I say this as to me it seems like Braun prefer a nice smooth shave that is less likely to irritate those with sensitive skin. I dont have sensitive so I didnt gain much from this side of the device. The Panasonic ARC 5 goes for the complete opposite, almost ignoring sensitive skin, with the sole aim of getting as close a shave as possible with a foil electric shaver. So how did it do? I kid you not, the ARC 5 surpassed my expectations. It literally felt as close as what id imagine a razor shave would do. It cut through the other side of my face/head hair with no issue, requiring far less repeat "go overs" with the device. For me, it was an easy win for the ARC5. This isnt to knock the Braun series 9, I think that is an excellant shaver, but if your goal is to get as close as possible, then its quite simply the ARC5. Now just for testing purposes (and tidying some tough to reach areas i guess) I also bought a Gillette Fusion5 ProGlide Razor, just to see how close these electric shavers got. Goingeach side in parts were the shavers went, I couldnt actually feel any difference on the ARC side. Id assume that the shaver has taken some more fair hair with it as there was some on the razor, but there was a noticeable diffference on the Braun side. So clear win for the ARC 5 in relation to closeness of the shave. Only negatives of the ARC 5 i guess are: Size...Having 5 blades on the top does add some bulk, so will require some adjustment for your routine. Though having those 5 blades, with the 30 degree angle that they have gives you that super close shave with convenience. Noise...I didnt find its nosiey, but its an annoying noise compared to the Braun. This wouldnt put me off suggesting this as a product to buy though. Overall, Id say if your in the market for a high end electric foil shaver (if your shaving your head, FOIL is the only way, not rotary) then the Panasonic ARC 5 is the way forward. It comes with everything you need for an amazingly close shave. Im aware they have released a new set of foil catridges that are labeled for another upcoming shaver, but they are also compatable with this shaver and help with sensitive skin. This product is well worth a buy, I couldnt be more impressed.

Fantastic close shave and a joy to use.
Amazingly close shave. After years of using a rotary shaver I had forgotten how much closer a foil shaver is. It takes a little longer to shave but is well worth it. Very easy to clean after use using squirty hand soap and the clean function, or you can use the provided cleaner/dryer. Battery life is good (lasts over a week shaving every day). It's a great shaver and well worth the money.

Just what I wanted
The problem is when you read reviews is which do you believe. All I can say is this is my personal view having used this shaver a few times now. 1. Shave's close. I don't shave every day and two or three days growth with this razor doesn't seen to be a problem. Can't see any irritation as it is so smooth over the skin (I have only used dray) 2. Battery Life. Between charges that seems very good. I could take away for a week (or maybe two shaving evet other day) without a need to recharge. 3. Cleaning. Easy to clean under the tap or just with the brush and a blow. I use the cleaning system tow or three times a week just for the extra cleaning and anti-bacterial properties. Any problems? Well; 1. The item comes with a 2 pin UK plug. That's fine if you have a bathroom socket. I haven't so I had to buy an adapter. With everything being USB this day finding one was not that easy (but you can order from Amazon). 2. Initially the razor would not charge. I gave the terminals on the Razor and Charging station a clean and everything then worked ok. You could charge, however not using the Charging station. It does indicate in the Manual that the terminals might need a clean. 3. Quite expensive with the charging/cleaning station but good value from Amazon. I don't know yet how often the foil's will need changing, but compared to the price of Premium blade for wet shavers I don't see it as that bad. Like wise I don't know the life of the Lithium battery. I think, from my experience in other devices, the suggested lifespan is somewhat conservative. Overall, I am amazed at how far Electric shavers have come since my first one. Hope this helps.

Closest Electric shave I've had
I bought this a while ago after spending a LONG time researching shavers and wanted to wait to write a review just in case i found something I didn't like. I'd previously had Braun but they just never really shaved that close for me, I've also tried rotary shavers which don't suit me at all. I wouldn't normally spend this much on a shaver but after reading reviews online I decided to take a punt, and i'm glad I did. It gives me the closest shave I've had with an electric razor. I've also started to use a Pre shave lotion which actually makes the whole procedure much nicer - its a smoother and cleaner shave than without. Battery life hasn't been a problem as I just return it to the charging station after use, which also doubles as a cleaning station. You get 1 sachet of cleaning solution with the shaver, which is tiny, but you mix with water and it lasts a surprisingly long time. Just return the shaver to the cradle, press the clean button and leave it to it. It even dries the shaver afterwards. Some people have complained that the head gets hot during extended use but I can honestly say i've not encountered this. I see it as an investment in comfort and efficiency, and I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone looking for a 1st class electric shaver.

New purchase
Having tried the Braun series 5 for a year and hated the fact that no how many times I plough it over my face, or how hard I push it to try and get a closer shave, I spent a lot more time this round reviewing what shaves closer. I intermittently before used disposable Gillette blades but had become increasingly unhappy about the ever increasing prices and reduction in pack sizes so whilst I appreciate this shaver was what at least I consider expensive, when compared to disposable use and cost I think that over time this will be a better investment, especially as I got a reduced price during prime day. Having said that, I did a lot of research and you have to be careful with what’s real and what’s sponsored out there but I plumped for this over the more expensive Braun 9 series purely because my prime motivator was a close shave, all the rest such as comfort, wet/dry, styling, skin sensitivity etc were not considered. Having received delivery I have to say this has provided me with the closest ever shave with an electronic shaver, and it felt very close to a Gillette top spec disposable shave. I am very happy with it, and as someone who also gets a rash if covering an area too much, I have to say that having used this 4 times so far it’s been quick, painless and rash free, saving me a lot of time whilst doing what I wanted it to Do. Charge time is about 1 hour, and it’s still on 80% so should last for 2 weeks on a single charge. I have not tried the cleaning station for anything yet beyond the initial charge but everything so far is better than I expected despite having researched it (sceptical I know!). If you can stretch to the cost of one these bad boys, you will not be disappointed. 👍🏻

Great machine at a good price
I was a Phillips user for most of my life but due to the poor quality of their replacement blades I decided to give this a go. It takes a little getting used to but I now get a clean shave and the razor is of a very high standard and quality. The razor and the cleaning system is a little noisy but the cleaning system does work well. It washes and dries the shaving head. I tried a wet shave and it feels smooth and no razor burn.

Good shave
I have to say out of all the electric shavers I have purchased this has got to be the best. The 5 blade head can be set to floating or fixed, it has a built in trimmer it came with a cleaning station which is not as costly as some other makes, I find brushing it out before using the cleaning station keeps the cleaner fresh for longer. You are recommended to wash it under the tap once a month. The replacement head and foil was not as dear as some other makes, but it gives me the best shave I have ever gotten from an electric shavers. Very impressed.

BATTERY DRAINS TO ZERO EVERY NEXT DAY
Hi All I purchased a Panasonic ES-LV97 Wet and Dry Rechargeable 5 Blade Electric Shaver with Cleaning & Charging Stand online from Amazon UK. I ordered on 21 May 2022 and the order was dispatched on 23 May 2022. The electric shaver is very good and I really love it. However, it's been exactly 1 year yesterday (21 May 2023) since I have been using this shaver and from the past couple of weeks, the battery level has been dropping down very quickly and from the past few days, it has been happening that on the very next day of charging the shaver to 100%, its battery is dropping down to zero without any usage. I have to connect the shaver to charging now every alternate day before shaving. I am disappointed with the BATTERY performance. I always made sure to disconnect the unit once it was charged to 100% and always cleaned it through running water and through the cleaning unit provided - after every single shave and made sure that the unit never remained connected once the shaver was 100% charged. I always put it for charging only when the battery level dropped down to 40%. I contacted Panasonic customer care and I was told that warranty doesn't cover the battery. Hence I am very disappointed and although I loved using this product, only because of poor BATTERY, I will never buy another Panasonic shaver in future. Hope this helps to anyone who is considering buying this product. Thanks Best Regards

basito

Excellent Shaver
This is my second Arc 5 Panasonic shaver, the first one lasted me 10 years. It is still working but I decided to buy a newer model. The LV97 is basically identical to more expensive models in respect of shaver parts, only the external materials and look differs. Excellent shaving experience, really close with minimal effort. Some irritation on my cheek skin after the shave, but I noticed if I don't apply too much pressure while shaving, it is not there. I hope I get another 10 years out of this one.
