Worth the extra price
Having grown up in Asia, rice was a important part of my diet. The Sukoyaka Brown Rice is a delicious light brown rice with a nutty flavor. After my first bag, this Japanese rice is the only rice I eat.

Big deal in Japanese rice
You can find this in any Japanese market chain like Tokyo Cental Market or Mitsuwa. Just use you map app and you should be surprised by how many markets near yo u find if you live, for example, in a metro area on the west coast. If you have not already, go to such a market or an H mart or 99 Ranch Market with friends or kids and get a small amusement park type "bump." Kids will go crazy in the snack and candy areas. Health freaks will discover a real produce section not to mention seafood (every type of octopus or squid u can umagine unles u an ethnic East Asian or Portuguese !๐ ๐คช Rice....got carried away there... Sukiyoshi is mor polished than brown which was even hard to find in Japan 20 years ago. Less polished than white. Healthier, tastier to some and faster cooking depending on you cookin method This brand is my fav. I am Japan focused academic who first went there as a college freshman 60 years ago...might enjoy checking out Whee! Website also.

Nutritious ! Tasty ! Fresh !
This is a great product. It is well worth the price. It is always fresh and package reseals well. It cooks well on the stove top and also cooks well using a rice cooker on the brown rice setting. I sometimes cook it in the rice cooker with chicken broth, variety of frozen mixed vegetables and or chopped chicken. It makes a delicious meal or side. If you have never tried brown rice before you should try Sukoyaka Genmai brand. Nutritious and tasty.

Spoiled Rice, tasted Sour and Yeastly - did not absorb moisture
I discovered this brand on Amazon a couple years back and since then it's been my favorite rice. It's moist, sweet, creamy, and perfectly pearly. However, this last order was more than just a disappointment. I cooked the rice today and when I poured the rice from its bag into a measuring cup, there was dust in the rice, which I thought was odd. There was never any dust in the previous orders. So I rinsed the rice 3 times instead of the usual once time. After I spent 2 hours cooking the rice and preparing dinner, just to taste that the rice was spoiled. The rice did not absorb moisture so it came out extremely soggy. Then when I tasted the rice, I immediately spat it out. It was sour and yeastly. The rice was spoiled. I cooked the rice with zojirushi rice cooker, and it's the best rice cooker out there. I'm never ordering this from Amazon again. P.S: I'm Japanese Vietnamese so I know how to properly cook rice. I learned how to rinse, prepare, and cook rice since I was 13 years old. As I mentioned, I've cooked this brand before, and it was heavenly. Except this last order. Yuck!

Perfection for me, but things to know
I couldn't possibly be more positive about any brown rice, than this variety. I have it, at least, three times a week. In fact, I'm making it as I write this review. But, there are things you might want to know, to see if it's perfect for you. First off (a plus which sold me), you can prepare this rice in a rice cooker without a 'brown rice' setting. Yea! And, it comes out exactly as the stovetop version. I know, I compared. Some prefer their brown rice to easily separate and have a more firm texture. That's not this rice. It is soft and fluffy, almost like white Jasmine rice, when cooked. For me, this is delectible, allowing it to soak up surrounding juices, sauces, or gravies of choice. The only problem I have found with this rice is -- drumroll -- eating too much. So, beware! I now have my measuring cup at hand counting those calories, wishing there was some way I could have the same enjoyment without the calorie boost. Life IS hard! Interestingly, there is an Asian market within walking distance to my home. I was surprised to find this rice. When purchasing a bag there, it generated a discussion with fellow customers and staff. This seems to be a very popular item, for many of the same reasons I have shared. You may feel the same, depending on your preference for the end product. For a 'soft tooth,' this IS for you!

My New Favorite
Most retail brands of brown rice taste stale from being on the shelf way too long. Sukoyaka Brown Rice, Genmai is fragrant and delicious. I eat about a cup of rice every day whether it's plain, served with salmon and steamed vegetables, in a salad, hot pot, or as fried rice. This brown rice lends itself to a variety of recipes. As stated previously, it's delicious on it's own or with Ponzu sauce, soy sauce, or butter. This is a 10/10 for me. I will be ordering this again.

Good taste, but too costly
It's delicious and doesn't take any longer to cook than the white rice, but I'm giving this only 4 stars because of the high price. I feel it's unfairly priced. I don't know if I'll buy it again because of the price.

Best brown rice yet!
I've lost count of the number of times I've been told that white rice is not good for you. Well, I'm not the biggest fan of brown rice so despite everyone's warnings, I continued to eat white rice. Then I was introduced to Sukoyaka Genmai Brown Rice. This is the first brown rice I have tried that even comes close to imitating the texture of white rice. I've tried several brown rice brands with mixed results. Brown rice is to me, also harder to cook with consistency. Either it's way too soft or its still chewy and hard. And putting in a little more water was not always the solution - it depended on the brand you were cooking. Sukoyaka Genmai Brown Rice is just like white rice in terms of cooking it. If you have a rice cooker, then just go with the measurements in the rice cooker and/or your trusty rice cup and you are golden. It hasn't failed me yet. The rice also has more of a sticky white rice texture versus the brown rice nonsticky texture which is awesome. I now cook this rice exclusively instead of white rice and we have been more than happy with the switch. And hopefully little healthier. I know that this rice is expensive in comparison, but I do feel that it is worth the extra money. And if you buy the size, it's the perfect starter size to try to see if this will work for you as well. I don't think that you will be disappointed in it. It's the perfect combo of the white rice qualities we love and the brown rice benefits that we need. Go buy it!
