Stunning
This lens is the standard for quality, affordability and your intro to professional lenses. It is a well rounded lens that gets a lot of the job done with out needing to change lenses. The color is stunning and at 1.8 you get incredible sharpness and clarity for the picture. The body is a little “too plastic” for what I would expect from Sony but it is their intro to FE and professional lenses. But the value to quality ratio is much higher than anticipated. I use the Sony A7iv and definitely see this lens being my work horse

Essential lens: optical quality and versatility
The Sony FE 50mm is a must-have in my kit as a 12-year photographer. It’s that reliable old friend: compact, lightweight, and always ready to back you up when the light’s failing. The f/1.8 aperture shines in low light, and its buttery-smooth bokeh turns everyday portraits into something almost magical. It’s sharp even wide open, though the autofocus could be faster in demanding moments. Still, this lens has bailed me out countless times—from capturing the quiet soul of a portrait to chasing fleeting expressions on the street.

Sharp, fast. Light. Excellent.
Just like the canon 50mm, this is an excellent no brainer for an added lens. Super sharp, fast focus. Get it!

Solid little lens. Get it if you’re starting out.
There is noise when auto focusing. Takes nice pictures. Durable, versatile. Definitely worth the price!

Almost Perfect!
So many know this is a very inexpensive nifty fifty and those who have it also know it is a pretty awesome lens, even though it is all plastic and not very robust. The only complaint I have is there is no MF/AF switch on the side like most of he other lenses, even the less expensive ones. This is not a big issue though because I have a custom button dedicated on my camera to switch from manual to AF so not a big deal but for those who would rather save their custom buttons for other things it is kind of a little bit frustrating. With that said, no other complaints. The image quality, color, vignette, chromatic aberration, lens flare, and distortions are all well controlled for such an inexpensive lens. The most impressive attribute is the autofocus. Super fast and accurate. It is not an all weather lens though so I will not use it in the rain, but that is normal for inexpensive lenses. If you absolutely need a 50mm with good weather seals you need to step up to the 1.4 version or go with a third party lens, which is substantially more expensive. Even good third party 50mm f1.4s are pretty pricy but for some it is worth it for the type of work they do (weddings/landscapes). Of course if you are a full time photographer and get paid for what you do, you will want the best glass anyway and it is part of your business model.

NIFTY FIFTY
Everyone needs this lens in their kit. It the cheapest great quality prime lens Sony has ever released in my opinion. Photos always come out looking crisp and clear with that classic bokeh look. The auto focus is fast and accurate. The lens is compact and lightweight. The one drawback is it is a bit noisy when focusing. A small price to pay for the quality of the stills. This may be the niftiest fifty i've ever owned!

Great Budget Prime Lens for Portraits and Everyday Use
The Sony 50mm f/1.8 is a solid little lens that punches above its weight — especially considering the price point. It’s lightweight, compact, and ideal for everyday shooting. The f/1.8 aperture gives beautiful bokeh, making it a great option for portraits, street photography, and low-light situations. Image quality is sharp in the center, and colors come out vibrant. The autofocus is decent — not the fastest in Sony’s lineup, but perfectly usable for most scenarios, especially on newer camera bodies. Build quality feels a bit plasticky, but that’s expected at this price and helps keep the lens light. Great performance. Overall, if you’re looking for an affordable prime lens with great image quality.

Decent image quality and focus speed results in a decent value lens!
This lens is pretty similar to the Canon 50mm f1.4. It focuses at about the same speed, and it the noise it makes while focusing is similar. Image quality is good enough. It's sharp, contrasty, flare isn't terrible and I haven't had any significant issues with fringing or CA. On an A7 iii it focuses in about 1 second and does surprisingly well in low light. Yes it does make noise when focusing and it seems like it over shoots a bit and then acquires focus. I haven't had any issues with it missing focus. Overall this is a decent lens when you consider the price. It is comparable with similar offerings from Canon.

Amazing lens for portrait ! I’ve ordered through Amazon Warehouse Deals, as I found it cheaper and wanted to try portrait photography with my Sony A5100. After many months with it, all I can say is that I should definitely have bought this one (even at regular price). Pictures are crisp, sharp with a superb bokeh. I’m using it all the time and the results are always amazing in almost every lighting condition. Worth every penny IMHO.

The lens is light and compact. Made of plastic though. The motor is a little noisy so if you are using for video, may hear it. Not a concern for me as I only use for portrait shots and street photography.
