Q: Does this require some kind of module or can it be connected straight to a mixer?

yes, you need a drum module unit to run triggers. the pintech that you got your eye on is the best price, sensitivity response, and durability on the market. Good choice. however, I use these triggers but use the (ddrum- bass trigger) for the bass kick.new like $60 bucks. my drum module unit is an Alesis D5 Amazon has a used one for $289.00.unless your a computer wizard sound engineer watch what you buy new in today's market. My D5 has 12 trigger inputs and I mic all my cymbals separate. I can never run out. It is so easy to use. I could take the pintech trigger and hook it to the paneling on my rec room wall and turn it into a cymbal, snare, tom-toms, kick, or any percussion sound I want when I hit the wall. Back in the day friends loved it when I hit the deer head for a china gong. Hope I helped.Lol

Q: Will these work on mute pads?

no. unless you have a way to connect them and create the sound. I have seen some folks try to use them without the module and it doesn't work,

Q: Will these work on cymbals?

Yes, they work on cymbals. You’ll have to adjust the sensitivity and threshold on your drum module. I have an acoustic electric conversion kits and use the zildjian quiet tone cymbals with these triggers.

Q: Do these work with Roland sound modules?

yes. They do! You may have to adjust the sensitivity and volume of the module.
