I had never whittled before and was looking for a good beginner kit. This one was perfect. Comes in a lovely slide-top box with all the tools neatly arranged inside. I also appreciate that there is a basic instruction guide which explains what each knife is used for. All the knives are very sharp and do a great job. I also like that they include the items to sharpen the blades with as well as a spoon blank. The gloves are very helpful too, and although they seemed large for my small hands, they fit just fine and also have some stretch to them. I’m very happy with the product, and it’s at the right price. I whittled my first mini spoon (of sorts - see pic) which was my first project, though haven’t used the spoon blank yet, as I was just trying to get a feel for the tools. Tools are comfortable to hold and pretty easy to use. I would definitely recommend this kit!

My carving tools set arrived quickly, undamaged and the tools were sharp, right out of the box. The cut gloves are a bit large for me but, the quality appears to be very good . I was surprised to find the quality of the set to be so good for such a great price. This is a great gift for someone or yourself as it literally cones with everything you need to start safely wood carving. Also the bamboo box it comes in is great! I did take out the foam insert so, that I had a bit more room for supplies. The knives are beautiful walnut(?) Handles with a comfortable grip. Very sharp out of the box. The spoon knife, I need more practice with and the spoon blank was a nice addition for that. There is also an info card explaining what each knife is. This set also comes with a leather stropp and a stick of compound for keeping you knives sharp and polished. Overall, I feel lucky I got such a quality kit for reasonable money.

The kit includes a beautiful storage box, leather sheaths for the blades (in my version), leather strop and stropping compound, and carving gloves in addition to the three knives. The knives can - and should - be made sharper by at least using the strop and compound. I have diamond sharpening stones and a ceramic/ruby honing stone. I used those before stropping and obtained excellent results for two of the three blades. The manufacturer's grinding process slightly warped one of the two flat blades. It required more work to get the entire edge razor sharp. Unfortunately, I never got the spoon blade razor-sharp. I found out after I returned the kit that I misused the knives. That misuse led to slight chipping on the cutting edge of the spoon blade, so learn how to use the knives before damaging them or after repairing them. An excellent teacher on Youtube and Vimeo is Lynn O. Doughty. I highly recommend watching a few of his videos. Other carving vloggers refer to Lynn. The manufacturer, Wacom, was kind and generous. A word about the included gloves: use them. I did not know about whittling gloves before getting this carving set. Now, I would not carve without at least a glove on the non-knife hand and protective finger tape on the thumb of the hand that grips the knives. Furthermore, the model of gloves included in the kit is comfortable and well made. I recommend them. I hope you enjoy carving as much as I do. It is both relaxing and satisfying. That last observation leads to a mild, if not humorous, warning: you may find yourself spending a lot more money on carving. Indeed, I hope you do! I have purchased a bandsaw to support my carving itch. I use it to rough out blocks of basswood before carving. I purchased the Wacom set with money from a birthday gift. I have since spent many times that on carving tools and wood. Have fun! Even my worst carving was more satisfying than a good day of tennis :o)

Was hoping to receive higher quality carving tools than what I have been using for a while now. I am happy to report that these are indeed sharp and well made! The nice bamboo box everything comes in is fantastic. Each tool has a little blade cover which is a nice edition t the kit. Their handles are sturdy feeling and the blades are sharp and sharpen easily. The leather strop included is intended to be used on the rough side of the leather with the included abrasive compound. I own a few strops so having another compact one is always welcome. No instructions were included which is fine by me. The cut level 5 gloves are functional and we got a spoon shaped piece of wood to practice on and of course make a custom chili spoon out of. This is worth the cost of entry for the 3 knives alone, but the added bonuses are all useful and I couldn't be happier. Time to sit on my front porch to yell at kids, eat butterscotch candy and whittle my spoon.

UPDATE, 3 years after purchase, still using the same gloves, love the thumbguards and the knives are impressive compared to more expensive well known brands. I have expanded my tool set but still use this kit when wanting a comfortable sharp tool to strop easily. For a beginner, this is an amazing price and awesome set with everything you need to start, and it comes sharp. I was impressed on how nice the content was in the box, even leather sleaves for the tools, and accessories to get started right away. Amazing value and thoughtfulness in the combination of items. Would like additional tools from same maker as add on kit to increase tools for different cuts.

The possibilities of this kit are endless. The bamboo box is clean, simple, and inviting to the detail knife. The hook knife has a unique sheath with two snaps to keep it in place after carving concave shapes and rounded edges. Way to go Waycom for including a wood spoon plank to practice on. The sloyd knife is excellent in terms of length and balance. All three blades are nicely crafted, firmly mounted, and razor sharp. The high performance carving gloves have a Cut Level 5 Resistance which is reassuring for beginners like me. The wood handles of each knife are light, sturdy, and smooth. Whittling your own grip into each one will make them individually perfect. Finally, the provided polish compound and leather strap will keep your knives sharp and rust-free.

Good product, very sharp buy a good pair of protective gloves. the ones the come with it are OK won’t really protect you from stabbing your hand might help with slashes.

It arrived early which is always nice. It Is a Christmas gift so can't rate the use but is a nice set. Well made and tools fit nicely in the hand.

My son likes this kit. The glove is not knife proof 😬. The part between the thumb and pointer finger is where the knife cut through.
