One review, for two different messenger bags.
Each bag is sold by the same company (Rothco), but I purchased Military bag form a this Seller. Each is 100% cotton, made in India. Each is heavy duty, with nice sized shoulder straps. (Not those thin ones, that cut into your shoulder.) Adjustable, but the bucket ends up being in the back? That's if you place the bag on your right side, left shoulder. The buckets are heavy duty, not big and awkward or add to the bags weight. Each bag is the same size, with the same number of pockets. Two outer, for bottles or etc. Two under the flap, with a real cloth zippered compartment inside. (I was afraid it might of been plastic, as they do make changes from time to time.) When opening the grey bag, the silica gel packets were ripped. Now I was planning on vacuuming, just not today. This delayed me in looking over my bags, as it WENT EVERYWHERE! But I did notice right off, each bag was heavy duty and sewn well. The two straps in front, I'm assuming are from the days, when belts were sewn to the bags. This insured whatever was in them, stayed inside. With the invention of Velcro, someone never thought to remove them. Unless they serve another purpose, then I'm in the wrong. If I'm not, get rid of them. (For the time and material it takes, its no longer needed.) I had intended to use them, when going to a flea market, farmers market or when taking a trip. Not a fan of packing the kitchen sink, this could be used as more of a weekend bag. The grey, with something casual goes well together. While the Military bag offers this, camping weekend feel. Either way, both are identical inside and out. (Duh, but for the colors!) As for the side pockets, I removed the inside snap. This means, the pockets can no longer snap shut. But after reaching in an catching my pinky on that looped strap inside, that thing had to go! Plus it offers a cleaner feel, when putting things into them. The other change I made, I removed the outside straps. For silliness, it does remove a little weight. But if you're backpacking in the wood, you could hang something off them or clip something to them. So yea, keep them for that reason. Now not being a sleeping bag and campfire person, there was no reason for me to use them in that way. In truth, I removed it out of vanity. The company makes so many beautiful designs, its a shame those straps seem to take away form it. This is when I need to stop and admit, I'm a whovian. (That's someone who watches Dr. Who.) So when I spotted the military bag with the Tardis on it, I was truly tempted. Even more so, when I spotted the bag with the Dalek. In the end, this was the one I picked. For its a military bag and that star on it, tells me. Its been tested to withstand, whatever I will Put it though. I had also given some thought to use them (the grey mainly), when shopping. Not, milk and eggs shopping. Mall shopping, when its more window then buying. This way you can bring whatever you need and have lots of space, for things you never know you'll be buying. (This idea came to me, when I was out. A Veteran was resting, with a bag like this on his side. Inside, something he needed to live I'm guessing, from all the tubes coming out of it. But when he noticed me, there was no shame in his eyes. Yes, he has an illness. No, its not something he wanted you to see, fear or concern yourself with.) So my plans have changed slightly, but I'm not disappointed with my purchases. (The Veteran you see, had a slightly lighter bag. So for Flea market shopping, room for whatever catches my eye. For mall shopping, I'm going with something lighter.) For as I said, heavy duty and each offers a different feel. checking into a hotel, by the beach. Or roasting marshmallows over a campfire, it all depends on which bag I'm using.

Great messenger bag.
I purchased the black, canvas messenger bag about two weeks ago to tote my netbook and work related materials. It also holds a paperback and a couple of magazines, no problem, for my lunch breaks. I've carried everything from construction plans to an SLR camera, and occasionally, both at once. This bag has lots of room and pockets, and it's almost perfect for what I need. The bag has two pockets at each end that will hold water bottles, a smart phone, sunglasses, etc., and two pockets on the inside front for a wallet, pens, gum, lip balm, etc. It is free form so it doesn't stand up on it's own, but that works for me. The only set back is that the inside pockets don't seal with snaps (or velcro or whatever) like the two end pockets. The outside flap is held down with two velcro strips on each pocket, which makes the outside flap look nice, but you don't have the security or confidence that stuff isn't going fall out when it is lying on its side or on the ground. The strap is adjustable for over the shoulder or across the shoulder length. I love this bag, and it looks rugged enough to last awhile even with me hauling all my $#!t around.

After 2 years, Still going strong
I bought this bag will in college, and though my expectations weren't high, it has surpassed them. I have been carrying it nearly everyday, for almost two years now--first lugging books and a 13in Macbook Pro around campus, and then lugging stuff to my office or around my small town. CONSTRUCTION: Very good. The canvas is heavy duty, but not stiff. The seams and hardware are all holding up incredibly well. I've not had a single problem with it. Some of the edges are starting to fray a little bit, but nothing major at all. One minor flaw: The velcro closure method is pretty much worthless, so it won't stay closed. This isn't a problem for me. Overall, it is holding up incredibly well. USE: I carry a 13in MBP (often in an incase briefcase. Sometimes I'll carry the laptop without a sleeve, but it is unprotected. The main compartment is incredibly large. It can fit at least a 15in laptop, all the laptop peripheries, an ipad in sleeve, a textbook or two, with a little extra room. There is one small zippered inside pocket that works well for pens, cell phone charger, keys, etc. I have started to carry a small mesh bag for other accessories. The two front pockets are my favorite aspect of the bag. I use it for storing all kinds of handheld items. I keep a bible, moleskin, and Kindle in one pocket, and books and other junk in the other. The side pockets fit my 32oz Nalgene water bottle, or a coffee mug perfectly. Sometimes I'll clip my water bottle to the hardware using a caribiner. Works great. Stuffed full, the bag isn't super comfortable to carry. With a laptop, its manageable. With some books, water bottle, and iPad, it's really comfortable. For the price, the bag can't be beat. I'll probably be able to get at least another year out of it, if not more. I am, however, looking at getting a new leather briefcase bag for durability and professional reasons. The canvas just isn't the best looking thing around--but it works for me. Not sure when I'll jump to a leather bag, because this bag serves me so well.

Very thick strong canvas, 5 🌟
I love canvas bags. I have like 10 of them. I saw this and liked the size. I like big messenger bags. This is a super thick canvas. Very strong and well made. You can put pins or patches on this to personalize it too. Nice long strap to fit for crossbody (I'm 5'10" and fat and it fits me with room to spare). I recommend

Good quality, low price.
Very solid bag. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is a bit bigger than it appears. It's normal size for a messenger bag, which doesn't come across well in the photographs. This, however, isn't a complaint. I made the purchase hoping those observations were correct and am quite pleased with the result. So far it seems very durable and functional. Stitching seems tight and doesn't appear to have any plans to come undone. Shoulder strap seems to have a death grip on the bag, so I doubt it'll be coming loose any time soon. Adjustment buckle works smoothly yet doesn't budge an inch when I'm carrying the bag. I purchased this bag, along with an insert, to use as a camera bag. It's given me no reason to feel anything less than confident in its ability to carry my photography gear safely. It's rugged, durable, and sturdy. And for the price I almost feel like I ripped someone off for this bag. My only concern is that the closure for the flap is Velcro. Velcro, as we all know, wears out with constant use. So, going in and out of my bag for lenses and whatnot will at some point render the closure ineffective. But, on one hand, I wonder "will that even matter?" The flap will still cover my gear, which is all that really matters. On the other I feel there's a possibility I'll be willing to spend a couple bucks to have the Velcro replaced because I like the bag that much. Of course, this is likely to be several years down the road. Other than that, I found a few slight, barely-noticeable, imperfections in the material itself. My point here isn't to nitpick the bag, though. My point is that for me to find anything else wrong, I HAVE to nitpick. The bag arrived as ordered, and on the second day of the delivery window, so I'm quite happy with the experience as a whole.

Good Bag for the price
I was looking for a medium size canvas bag to carry a few work files and small materials. My previous bag (A Jack Bauer bag from the TV show 24, "Season 2" finally wore out). When I typed in "Jack Bauer bag", hoping to find the same bag I had, this bag appeared. This bag must be a newer bag in later seasons. Anyway, this bag is good, but a lot bigger than I thought so I will be using it for travel rather than a work bag. I wouldn't recommend this bag for a laptop unless you are very careful with the way you handle the bag off your shoulder. I think this bag will be a good "carry on" bag or if you have large files, stacks of papers, magazines and/or small books to carry to school or work, then it would be a good bag to buy for the price. It stays on your shoulder okay and has five small pockets: One small pocket on each end, two medium pockets under the flap side by side, and one very small zipper pocket inside. The velcro holds down the flap okay unless you have something very heavy inside, like a laptop or heavy books. It only has a shoulder strap and not a hand handle like my other one did. All and All, a good bag for the price.

Great Multipurpose Bag
I'm a teacher and carry a lot of stuff back and forth between school and home. I needed to replace an aging laptop shoulder bad, but was looking for something a tad more casual while still being suitable to a professional environment. This canvas messenger bag fit the bill perfectly. The package arrived on time and was shipped appropriately. Upon taking the bag out of the box I noted how big it was. I don't know what I was expecting, but I've ordered bags online before and have always been a little umderwhelmed. This thing is massive though. I can fit my MacBook, various binders/notebooks/papers, and a light jacket in the main bag with room to spare. One of the side pockets holds my water bottle easily. The other one has my MacBook charger, wireless mouse, and various other electronic bits. The front pockets easily hold most books, an iPad, or Kindle Touch. I also carry odds and ends in them like pens, my id badge, etc. There is a small zipper pocket in the main bag and I usually put some small first aid supplies in there along with a sewing kit. I also attached some small zipper pouches to the strap hardware that have my earbuds and phone charger so they don't get lost/tangled in the pockets. The bag is very comfortable owing to the wide strap which is adjustable. I'm 5'10" and there's still quite a bit of adjustment left in the strap. Even when packed full I have found that the strap doesn't dig into my shoulder as my other bag did. The material is not stiff and (as some other reviewers have noted) holds it's shape much better with some things in it. It seems pretty durable, but I haven't been able to use it a lot yet. I have taken it on a few plane trips and so far I've had no issues. It's also easy to attach patches to which give it some personality. The one thing that I do find a bit awkward is that there is no handle on the bag, only the strap. My laptop bag had one and I used it quite a bit to move the bag around. Trying to put the bag into my car or moving it around my desk is sometimes a bit awkward doing so with the strap.

Great all purpose bag
I'd been looking for an all-purpose bag for work for quite some time. Had all the paralysis by analysis syndrome as I needed to pack notebooks, a Macbook, Sony tin headphones, an iPad, charger cables, pens, pencils, INIU power pack, a bottle of water, plus more. Mid paralysis I was sitting watching an episode of '24' and saw the bag Jack Bauer uses for his field kit. On a whim I searched and found that the bag he used was commercially available, and for under £40! Being an anorak I purchased one. PRODUCT: The bag is spacious and there is plenty of room for all the above just using the large central compartment, however, the two front and side pockets are reasonably large and the side pockets easily accommodate a litre bottle of water. The bag is secured by a large over-flap that is velcroed. An adjustable carry strap can be lengthed or shortened to the wearer's needs, and it is comfortable either worn with the strap across the chest or just hanging from the shoulder. When placed down the bag invariable sits squarely on the surface and doesn't flip over when fully loaded as above. The bag is made of solid canvas material and the straps are held to the bag with robust metal rectangular holdings. I've used it daily since purchase and am delighted with its practicability for my needs. This may be for you if you're after an inexpensive, practical bag. Even if you're not doing field ops for CTU!
