Easy to clean. Great product Review: Love it! Great gift! - We've had our molcajete for several months now and are very pleased with it. The only thing I've learned is I need a bigger one. XD There is something special about it. I've been using the same guacamole recipe for years but my husband keeps asking me if I changed it. Nope! It's just the molcajete. This would make an excellent gift! Just inspect first upon arrival to ensure it's intact. Was nervous about other reviews I read about broken ones, but ours was just fine. Attaching a photo- our 9 year old loves helping!

Will not hold 4 cups!
First of all this is not volcanic rock, I have a molcajete from Mexico , this one is too smooth ( I think it’s granite) . Also this molcajete will not hold 4 cups! I am very disappointed with this purchase!

Great gift for chef!
Gave as a gift and they loved it! Nice look, large enough for making dips and easy to clean.

Questionable quality
If this molcajete is actually volcanic rock, it is the least porous volcanic rock I have seen. While trying to cure it with rice I struggled so hard and for so long to grind the rice and it never turned into a fine enough powder to make a paste for the final curing process. I doubt it will be able to grind up skin of tomatoes or chiles. It is huge and sturdy. It will do for the price but I'm really questioning the quality of the product. Either way, it looks nice on my counter, I guess.

Real volcanic rock, a little rough but works great
This is my first Molcajete so I don’t have much perspective but it is real volcanic rock, not concrete as some lower quality Molcajete.. I performed the seasoning and curing process right away and made some salsa, guacamole and a batch of chili paste for Chile con carne/Colorado. The stone cutting/grinding on the outer part of the base is a little rough around the edges - that’s the only reason for the lost star - there are some pits and rough/raw edges that slightly take away from the aesthetic appeal but don’t otherwise impact the function of the product. I could take some time to file or grind them down and make it look pretty, maybe I will at some point but it won’t change the quality of the food I process with it, just my pride and enjoyment while using/displaying it. The Mano/mortar is a little flatter than others I have seen, I don’t know if this affects the grinding action at all, it does closely match the curvature of the mortar so it makes the grinding effective still but I wonder how a more rounded end would perform.. all curiosities and questions mostly due to my lack of experience and awareness but shouldn’t necessarily reflect poorly on this particular product. They are merely observations and comparisons.

Very sturdy and authentic
Make sure you season it before first using. Also clean after use, do not let it sit for hours without cleaning. Kids taught me that lesson. Use water and a stiff brush to clean, soap. It necessary. Also make sure you place it directly on your counter when using. It is heavy and rough. I use a cork trivet.

Disappointed
It was advertised as an 8 inches, but in reality the bowl is only 6 inches, 7 inches if you count the rim. Too small to serve in and harder to work with.
