Well made player and remote that are easily worth the price
Performs very well. Especially like the easy to use HDMI connection; nice for a new player at such a good price. I like the remote as it is a medium size that fits well in your hand. Not overly large or too small. The small ones are a real pain; at least to me. Only "negative" is if the remote stops working and you use the controls on the player itself . . . the buttons are close to being recessed so that one must hold your finger vertically to make good contact with the very small and thin buttons. However; the remote seems well made so should not be an issue; fingers crossed. Loads quickly and the remote controls are very responsive; no lag time when remote buttons used. Small size of player concerned me a bit; however, also seems well made and it does take up very little space. Power light on player is faint so it is not a distraction if close to the TV screen. Video quality is very good. No stops or hesitations of images; smooth flow of the DVD images.Only wish it was USA as I would have paid at least $10 more if that were the case. I try to buy USA; can't in this case.Bottom line is a well made player and remote well worth the price. 5 of 5 recommended.

This is easy to use DVD player, it is compact, and the remote works great.
This Sony DVD is much more compact compared to earlier models. It connects to a monitor with an HDMI cable so it takes only one cable for video and both Left and Right audio channels. Much easier to connect one cable instead of three. Make sure you have an HDMI cable on hand or order one when you order the DVD player. Audio and video quality are good. I transferred a Viet Nam era VHS tape to a DVD and still got positive comments.

Sweet for the price. Several minor cons.
Bought this primarily because I needed a CD player with RCA outputs for use with an old amp. This player meets my need. This is a 1st experience review of only that usage. The unit will also serve as a backup DVD player if my current Sony BD player (which has only HDMI outputs) fails."Cons" (at this price who can complain?)1. It has no display - Don't know what it's doing. Can't even determine if it's on or off. It has is a small, dim green on/off LED on the front top of the unit. If the unit is placed on a console while you are sitting, you cannot see this LED in a lit room. Not a major problem.2. Only an RCA cable is provided, no HDMI cable. Not a problem for me.3. The remote has no Mute button(!?) Perhaps I'm missing something. Otherwise the remote is full featured, works fine with my LG TV and (surprisingly) does not appear to interfere with my Sony BD player.4. The remote buttons are bit stiff. I'll get over it.In conclusion, I'm happy with it.

Refurbished turned out sweet.
Refurbished DVD player came with remote control that include batteries. Like new condition and worked flawlessly. Refurbished price player is a good value.

Great value for price!
So I wanted to address a few of the comments I saw in other reviews that made me hesitate to buy this. I was very pleased with this dvd player. Set up is very easy, it’s virtually plug and play, it took my husband less than 5 minutes to get it going. It comes with the multi colored cords, but not an hdmi cord. Amazon recommends one with the purchase. I did buy that one. Be careful that it will work for you though, it’s very short. So we used the one we already had. The picture is great. Most importantly to me though is I can hear it quite well. The words are clear and volume is great. That has been my biggest issue with dvd players in the past. I could not hear them. You won’t have a problem with this one. The remote is really easy to use. Not a bunch of extra buttons I would never use. It works pretty far away from the player and at angles away from it. There is no dvd player noise that I can hear, other than when shutting it down or turning it on which I think is normal. But I don’t hear it while the movie is playing. This is a great value for watching DVD’s.

Slim, small, simple to hook up, and easy to operate
The Sony DVPS510H DVD Player is a good value for the price. It arrived nicely packaged. After removing it from the box, I was able to hook it up in under 2 minutes. To hook it up, you only need to plug in the (included) AC power cord and attach the (included) three color-coded RCA cables to the red, yellow, and white inputs on your TV. Very simple.Once connected, I selected the correct input channel on the TV and was immediately able to play DVDs. The picture is very crisp and colorful--slightly, but noticeably, better than the picture that we got from the older Magnavox DVD/VCR combo player that we bought this Sony to replace. (Obviously, this varies with the quality of your TV, but my point is that on the same TV, this player shows a better picture than our older, but more expensive Magnavox.)DVDs also load and play considerably faster in this Sony player than in either the previous Magnavox player or the Samsung Blu-Ray player we use in our family room. Both the Magnavox and the Samsung hunt and seek noticeably longer before they begin playing DVDs. This might sound like a small quibble, but if you're trying to put on a DVD quickly for a child before you go to do chores, it's nice to be able to get the DVD playing about 20 - 30 seconds faster, without all the weird loading/seeking time of the other players we've used.We replaced our older, more expensive Magnavox DVD/VCR combo player because our kids broke it by putting coins in the DVD and VCR slots. Thankfully, the control panel on this Sony unit is much more streamlined, with only four buttons (Eject, Play, Stop, and Power On/Off). All other functions are confined to the included remote control. As a result, the unit looks much less enticing to a child's eyes, reducing the temptation to press buttons and potentially break the device or disrupt viewing while a DVD is playing. (The Magnavox had so many cool-looking buttons on the front face that the kids just couldn't keep their fingers off it.) Also nice is that the Sony's buttons take noticeably more finger pressure to operate, so baby fingers are less likely to set them off every time a child happens to touch or grab at the device. For our needs, that's great because this player will be used in our home office, for the TV in the kid's play area. The DVD tray appears to be relatively delicate. It should hold up fine for adults, but it's made of plastic, so if you have kids, you'll have to be careful that they don't grab and pull on the loading tray when it is ejected. Aside from that, the unit seems solidly built for its purpose. I expect it will last quite a long time. All in all, this is a great value for the money. Since we've only had it a short while, I can't attest to its longevity yet, but if it lasts at least a couple of years, it will have been a good value for a no frills, easy to operate, reliable player.
