and though I think it makes better sense to take them off as I'm writing this
I purchased my pair two years ago, in 2014. Since then, they've carried me through daily use on everything from ER floors, to the streets of Germany. It's probably worth mentioning that I'm wearing them now -- I've been out for the day, and though I think it makes better sense to take them off as I'm writing this, now that I'm thinking about it, I think it speaks to the level of absolute perfection in comfortable daily use.I've abused these shoes to extremes, over the past two years. I've used them as emergency active-wear, for work, and for when I want something that looks good on my feet when I go out. I put a new layer of polish on them a couple of days ago, and they look like the day they arrived in their box. The shoestrings are looking a bit worn, but it's hard to complain about that with two years of use, and an inexpensive replacement when I need to. It's just unreal.Believe me when I say that these are the best shoes that I've ever owned. I'm the sort of person who tends to have a fairly abusive gait on shoes, and while the insole has shaped to a perfect imprint of my foot over time, it's still in near-perfect condition. I'm even the sort of person who tends to force their foot into the shoe without untying the laces, and I'm only just now starting to see a little bit of wear on the inside of the heel. I think an insert would be best for people who have arch support problems, but the crafting of the shoe is acceptable for normal circumstances.I think it's about time for me to buy a new pair, but it's a hard thing to do, considering the treads have mostly survived the last two years, aside from the ball of the foot, and even then, they only lost their profile fairly recently.I can't speak to build quality these days, since I've never had to replace them, but these are an incredible pair of shoes, that stand up to impossible wear and tear, and look good in the process. I'll be buying these again, when the day comes that I need to replace them, which isn't soon.

Perfect PLUS Excellent Customer Support.
I bought my first pair of Doc Marten's last October - a brown version of this same shoe. I loved them so much within two weeks I ordered this black pair. The praise here is for both. Further down I'll address customer support. As billed, this is a sturdy, warm shoe fit for most occasions and wardrobes. I'm the principal of a public school and while I don't wear a suit to work, I usually wear slacks of some kind, dress shirt, and jacket or sweater. These shoes work with everything I wear, including jeans on Fridays and elsewhere. They're also warm and sturdy for rainy cool fall through spring here in the northwest. They are wonderfully comfortable and I can be on my feet for hours in them with no trouble. Now for the support part: Kudos to both Doc Martens AND Amazon on this. About 2 weeks after I got my black pair, I started noticing a snapping sound in the left shoe when I walked. At first it was intermittent, but soon got persistent with each step. It was audible enough that people heard me clicking down the hallway. There was no visible problem on the outer or inner sole, nor could I reproduce it just manipulating the shoe - only when I walked in it. This was right before the holidays so I didn't get around to doing anything about it until the second week of January. I first left a message with Doc Marten's call line (it was the weekend). Then I looked up my Amazon order and saw the return options. One was a straight exchange for the same item. I clicked a few boxes and got a qr code and directions to drop the shoes off at UPS - no packing required. I walked into my local UPS store with the shoes thinking I'd have to explain, but the clerk smiled and said, "Sending back these? Show me the QR code." I did and walked out the door 30 seconds later with the receipt. That part was amazing in itself but here's the kicker. The next morning the replacement shoes arrived. THE NEXT MORNING! It was less than a 24 hour turnaround time. I was expecting weeks. My hat's off to Amazon on this return process. Also, hat's off to Doc Marten's - I got a prompt call back from them on Monday, apologizing for the problem and offering to fully exchange the product. I explained about the Amazon solution and they let me know that if there were problems with that, to call them back and they'd fix it. The problem by the way, was something she said comes up once in a while when an airpocket inside the sole ruptures.Great shoes, great service from both Amazon and Doc Marten's.

Perfect work shoes.
Possibly the most comfortable pair of Dr Marten shoes ive ever owned and I only more than several pairs. The new air cushion technology that crosses under the toe bones is extremely comfortable. They are instantly comfortable. If anything, the outside needs a little breaking in just to take a bit of the shine off. I have a feeling that these would be great for work on hard surfaces and in a casual setting as well!
