No additives or chemicals. I've used this for years and it is a good product.

Does this produce a thin blue smoke or more of a white billowing smoke paired with the amazing maze?

I have a similar smoker tray, the smoke should be white (it's just hickory sawdust) - I believe blue smoke would indicate some sort of foreign material smoldering.

Is this fine enough for a smoking gun or cocktail smoker?

I use this for smoking meat in my Masterbilt Smoker. Hope that helps.

will this work as tan grass for my model railroad?

I used mine as a packing material for summer bulbs. I'm not a good source for other uses. Three dumps and I was done
