Poakalani: Hawaiian Quilt Cushion Patterns & Designs, Vol. 1

This is a wonderful booklet with a simple introduction to making a Hawaiian quilt. This book is 56 pages long (stapled in the center), with no color pictures in the book (the patterns are for the blocks on the cover and back of the book). I recommend this series of quilt books. It has everything you need to learn to needle turn applique, plus it has beautiful patterns. This book has great photos and directions, so that you come away with confidence in your own ability.

I was wanting to make some pillows for my couch and use Hawaiian Applique as my theme. These 3 books have given me just what I needed to get started.

Great patterns, though I though I would get the "reverse applique" method. Lots of good, basic instructions for starting a beautiful quilt.

I have all the books in this series. I love Hawaiian quilts. The patterns are not difficult and make great appliqué' designs.

Hawaiian quilting is quite beautiful to look at. I have long wanted to do some. I was further inspired by the beautiful gold on gold quilt that plays such a large part in the story of the lovely film 'The Descendents'. So I looked for some books on the subject and found this one. A ridiculously low price for such an informative book with many designs and very clear instructions as to how to do the quilting. So to start with they suggest a small piece. Very sensible - I have always suggested that myself to newcomers to a craft. But there is also a section showing how to use these designs to make a larger piece. How colourful and well balanced are the designs. How lovely that there is a spiritual meaning too. Well I shall start with designs from this book but look forward to reading the other books written by Poakani and John Serrano. This small book has opened up another world for me to enjoy.

Sehr gelungen und interessant, weil dieses Buch nicht nur schöne Muster enthält, sondern auch Erläuterungen zu den einzelnen Mustern. Beispielsweise wird kurz das Instrument "Uli Uli" erklärt, dessen Form auch in den Mustern zu finden ist. Die Abbildungen sind im Buch schwarz-weiß, außen auf dem Umschlag aber farbig abgebildet. Wirklich sehr zu empfehlen!

Bücher über die berühmten Hawaiianischen Quilts findet man nicht so häufig. Die Muster sind überaus interessant und anhand dieser Vorlagen schafft man evetuell auch eigene Kreationen.
