You Are the Quarry

I was a big Smiths fan back through the late '80s, and for some reason never really got into Morrissey's solo work (I was more interested in Johnny Marr's guitar work than Morrissey's vocal work at the time). Fast forward to 2005 and I happen to see the Morrissey concert on one of my HD channels (the shortened version of "Who put the M in Manchester"). I was real impressed, so I bought this super-deluxe-ultra-special version of You Are The Quarry, and so it goes....This is probably the best cd I have bought in over a year. It is a great mix of rock, pop, and classic alternative. Morrissey's voice is excellent, and (considering his age) hasn't lost any of the dynamics that have been his signature. The music is absolutely great - Boz and Alain never cease to amaze me with their ability to place guitars perfectly in the mix. I'm equally impressed with Roger's keyboard performance, and Gary and Dean are great as well. The overall production on the cd is top-notch - other bands need to take notes from this cd on how to properly produce and mix an album.Like most everyone else who have posted reviews for this cd, I can't believe some of these "B-side" songs were left off the original pressing. "Friday Mourning", "MY Life Is A Succession of People Saying Goodbye", and "Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice" are wonderful songs that should have been on the original cd. Those songs alone are worth the extra cost of this deluxe version of this cd. I could live without "I Like You" and "The World is Full of Crashing Bores", but they are still good songs.Overall, this is a great cd that should impress anyone who is not stuck in 1988.

For an extra 3 bucks you get not only a DVD of the song ENGLISH HEART, IRISH BLOOD (nice video) but also a small poster of the classy CD cover (with the gun). As for the CD itself, this is Morrissey back at and near top form. America is Not the World, English Blood/Irish Heart, and I Have Forgiven Jesus are all Morrissey at his VERY BEST and are worth the price of the album (really, if you like Morrissey!) - the rest are VERY VERY GOOD, and the CD is ultimately satisfying (not true for a Morrissey CD in a LONG time!). The greatest thing about the CD besides the clever songwriting (Morrissey's got it back!) is Morrissey's great singing, his best vocalizing since The Queen is Dead, perhaps!

This is everything I wanted and more! I love Morrissey and own the US version of this CD. When I discovered another version AND from the UK, I HAD to purchase. CD came faster than expected and in excellent condition. If you're a huge fan of this amazing record, you wont regret the purchase! Also, the DVD is worth it!

BUY THIS CD NOW ! ANY VERSION OF IT.This CD kicks the proverbial A** !! Killer lyrics, melodies , and emotions makes this Morrissey's greatest cd to date! Anyone who embraces the man's music at all knows that this is saying a lot. This cd will put Mozer on top in his genre. ***beware** this cd contains honest, emotional lyrics that may not be suitable for the listener that cannot handle the truth. ie:"America is not the World"....Do yourself a musical favor....BUY THIS CD NOW !!AND LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW. LET'S GIVE THE MAN THE OVERDUE RESPECT THAT HE REALLY DESERVES !!

It's 20 years on, and Morrissey is still the thinking man's singer/songwriter. "You are the Quarry," released on the newly resuscitated Attack Records label, is a collection of gems.From the self-depreciating "I have Forgiven Jesus" and the anthemic first single "Irish Blood, English Heart," to the lacerating wit of "The World is Full of Crashing Bores" and violent romanticism of "The First of the Gang to Die," Morrissey is in top form. Wearing his heart on his sleeve, his soothing voice has never sounded more natural. And the music is rife with emotion; pure sonic genius. The lads are spot on!This album essentially rivals the greatness of "Vauxhall and I." In three words, "Quarry" is...brilliant, fantastic, superb!By the way, Moz, the truth is Jesus loves you. God cares about you, and He (obviously) has a wonderful plan for your life. Cheers for the last 20 years.

After being frustrated that this and several of his cd’d were not available for purchase on iTunes I decided to buy it on Amazon and the price was right and the wait was worth it. He never disappoints.

Outstanding Vinyl

This is the album that put Moz back on the map. He had disappeared for a while from many of us, but here, he makes a triumphant return! During my junior/senior years as an undergraduate, I jammed to this particular album. Good times!
