Bostitch 6 Gallon 150 Psi Air Compressor

There was a time when I had a couple compressors: one large 1.5 HP 40 gallon and a portable Dewalt. I ended up selling both as I wasn't using either of them. Of course, as soon as you get rid of something you need it. I made do without for quite a while but a kitchen remodel changed all that. I didn't want to spend a bunch (the remodel was doing just fine in that area). I took a chance on the Bostitch and am pretty pleased. The compressor is surprisingly light (my Dewalt was a beast and unwieldy), so easy to take wherever you are working. It's not excessively loud, but it's a compressor so yes, you know it's running and it might seem loud to some. It builds up to pressure quickly and holds like a rock when idle. I was using a brad nailer at 80 lbs. and it cycled a bit, but not too bad. I moved on to the drywall texture sprayer. Running at 30 lbs the compressor cycled regularly as I was spraying continuously for 15 minutes or so. Aside from the cycling, it never dropped pressure and performed quite well. A minor nit is the pressure regulator, but honestly most compressors you have to fiddle with a bit to dial in the pressure you want. However, this one is a little jumpy and you have to play with it to get it right. Bottom line is this a great choice for a portable compressor. More capable than one just for airing up tires but not something you can use to paint your car.

I bought this compressor to replace a series of duds, including a "nice" oil-cooled 8-gallon one. My primary use is filling tires (cars, truck, tractor), and I've been using it for that for several months with excellent results. First, it's significantly quieter than any small electric compressor I've used. It sounds like it's running at a lower speed, so even better than just being quieter, it's less of a high-pitched scream and more of a lower-pitched, dull roar. I have no instrumental measurements to back this up, but it's noticeable and welcome. Second, and also welcome, the tank holds a charge. If the compressor kicks on and fills the tank while I'm topping off a tire, and then I turn it off and close the exit valve (counterclockwise, of course), I can come back a week later and the pressure in the tank is still where I left it, and unless a tire is fair empty, the 6-gallons is enough to top off a car tire with 10-15 pounds without even plugging in the Bostitch. Nice! Third, if you've used an oil-cooled compressor in cold weather (Great Lakes winter here), to have this machine just start up and run instantly in any weather is such a wonder. Damn oil-cooled compressors hate to start up properly in the winter, just when you need it for some plowing with the tractor that's been sitting for a few months since the autumn. This just works. Finally, I haven't used it with a nail gun or spray painting or anything like that, so I can't review that, but it's been a welcome new tool in the garage for everything else.

I read a lot of reviews before picking a small compressor for my garage. I always read the bad ones just so I know what to look for when I receive a product. I have a great deal of experience with air compressors having grown up in a machine shop so take my review for what it is worth. I closed the drain valve which was open and allowed the tank to pump up. The compressor was not nearly as loud as my old Craftsman and vibration was minimal. The tank held full cool pressure (145 psi) for two days so I had no leaks. Overall quality looks fine and the handle, pressure switch, and relief valve all work as expected. The regulator was set fully clockwise but contrary to other reviews it was not jammed or broken. I easily adjusted it down and it turns with normal resistance. - My only con so far, and I have found it on a lot of other small compressors, is the regulator pressure drop when using a high volume of air. These little regulators will lose around 10 psi with demand so you wind up setting them 5 psi or so high when using air tools like grinders or air ratchets. This is not really a factor with nail guns nor does it hurt anything inflating tires so if that is your primary intended use, you will be good to go. --- All in all this appears to be a very nice little compressor and is perfect for my garage use around the house. I hope it is durable!

I have had the compressor for about 3 years now and have no problems with it. Use it for blowing out the shop and filling tires. Have used it for some lug nut removal as well. It struggled breaking them when taking off, but worked great for putting back on. I had an old impact wrench, so it might of been related to that, more then the compressor.

It’s louder than they claim, At 5’ away it’s 86 decibels as measured with a calibrated dosimeter, but it’s like a loud shop vac so not terrible even for an apartment. It takes about a minute to fill the tank to 150 psi which is nice and quicker than I expected, then shuts off until it needs to add more pressure. this helps a lot with noise unless you’re needing high volumes of air. Does get fairly warm even after one tank full, but that’s not unexpected, you just probably couldn’t put it in an enclosed space and run it for long periods of time. Tank seems nice, will be easy to drain water out, and two 1/4” outlets are convenient. Regulator seems kinda cheap relative to industrial stuff but for the price I’m very happy so far. Holds 150 psi for at least 3 days with no power and nothing connected to it

Bought this compressor for a roofing job and as a spare to other compressors. Unit works as it should, is a bit loud but that's to be expected with a high speed unit. The tank holds 140 psi for 2 weeks, loosing only 4 psi in that time. There is a rattling sound as pressure builds around the 100 psi range but that ceases as pressure continues to rise. I suspect it is 2 parts vibrating against each other and not a future internal problem. There is one disappointing issue. The compressor weights 40 lbs and is shipped in a box suitable for an item weighing 10 lbs. There were many rub marks on the new paint and the box was quite dented and torn upon arrival. Fortunately there was no damage to the tank or compressor itself. This is a $150 product. Its unfortunate the seller didn't spend a couple dollars more and place the original box into an "overpack" for added protection.

I had read some pretty good reviews on this one, and decided to order it. Having been looking around, I found that most 6-gal. pancake compressors were 1 - 1.5 HP. I couldn't find the horsepower rating on this one's advertising, specification list nor the manual. Finally I went to the company website and sent them an email asking what was the HP rating. The next day I received their reply and was disappointed to hear it was only 0.8 HP. So with that I decided to let its performance show its worth. It came two days later (fast!). After reading all instructions I turned it on, watching the time it took to reach its max (150) psi. I was surprised it took only less than 3 minutes! With hoses and a tire filler installed I waited a half hour and checked the pressure gage, and it had not shown any noticeable pressure loss. I topped off the tires of both my car and truck and then bled the pressure off. I then turned the unit around, over, upside-down and inspected it over-all for general quality; Weldment, materials, components and workmanship. Evidently it manages its power well enough to arrive and maintain its pressure rating, and seems sturdy and well made. Btw, I am a retired Quality Assurance Specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense. If I were to inspect this product for acceptance on a gov't contract, I would have no problem giving it my stamp and signature. Bottom line, a nice little compressor, especially at that (sale) price!

Sin embargo, es importante señalar que si la intención es operarlo en un lugar cerrado, debe considerarse usar protectores auditivos, pues sí es bastante ruidoso. Otro dato que no se especifica es el tiempo de carga a partir de cero, el cual suma tres minutos y siete segundos (3:07) hasta que se detiene automáticamente en 150 psi. En general, es liviano, estético y funcional.

I have used this unit for six months and I am very pleased with the performance. Well worth the investment. Powers my pneumatic tools nicely for auto work, and other applications. I have had smaller 1 and 2 gallon tanks and they are not worth your money. Purchase a decent one the first time.

I have used the compressor a couple of times and it works very well. Inflated a tire and ran one of my nailers, no problems. One improvement I would like to see is a wing or T on the bottom bleed valve. I tried to transfer the valve from another brand of compressor but the threads were not compatible.
