More than you expect when comparing the competition.
I was looking for an alternative to the V Moda boom mic which would be compatible with the proprietary connection of the Audio Technica ATHM40X headphones to use as a gaming headset.First impreasions: -The packaging is very clean, no noticeable logos or company information other than a compatibility sticker, in line with what you might expect.Upon opening the box I was pleasently surprised to see the mic securely fixed into a plastic tray and all jack connections protected by individual plastic sleeves. The cables are braided and jack housings are of a thick semi hard rubber construction and are reassuringly solid. Connections are gold plated and the base of each jack has a slightly thicker flange leading to the jack housing, a nice touch. The inline mute/volume works as expected and if I had 1 complaint for my £19.99 it would be that the housing for the mute/volume feels a bit flimsy and certainly not consistent with the higher than expected quality of the rest of the product. The boom of the mic is roughly 3 inches long and is perhaps not as pliable as I expected, although it does stay in place. The capsule housing looks good, with a mat grey finish and (what looks and feels to be) a metal grill cap.Sound quality is obviously subjective, but my initial impressions are very positive. With the mic placed about an inch from my mouth I heard no noticeable clipping or distortion and the mic has a very nice warm tone, not nasal or thin at all and captures bass, mid and treble frequencies equally with pop shield on and off.My only real very minor complaint as far as the mic goes is external sound pick up, but assume this is down to the mic being uni directional and wasn't as bad as it could be.Once I've used it for a few weeks I'll come back and update on durability and more thoughts on the mic itself.

Reliable no-nonsense product
I bought this so could add it to my Beats Studio Pros so I could use them to game on my xbox and have communication with my mates. I bought this over a year and a half ago and it's still going strong. Great product that I would definitely recommend to others. Mic sounds clear too!

Perfect for using existing headphones with consoles
I bought this primarily so I could use my Sony WH1000X-M4 headphones with my PS5 and Xbox One, rather than splashing out on a dedicated gaming headset. It's really annoying that last and current gen consoles don't support Bluetooth audio (even if it is for valid reasons), and that the audio cable included with a decent pair of noise cancelling headphones doesn't transmit microphone data. Luckily, this product is a pretty simple solution. It's literally plug and play with one end into your headphones and the other end into the controller's 3.5 mm jack.In terms of sound quality, it's decent. I haven't had any complaints from my friends on Xbox Live/PSN, or in video calls for work. So sound is clear enough; it gets the job done. Having inline controls for volume and mute can be handy so you don't have to faff on your device, but I have to say I rarely use those features. On my Sonys at least, I can still turn the headphones on and use the active noise cancelling to drown out my surroundings while using the inline mic, which is pretty nice.My only real complaint is that the muffler on the end of the microphone is really loose, and fell off constantly. I got around it by looping a small elastic band around the muffler so it stayed in place. A minor concession, but something to look out for. The cable length is also a tad long (at about 1.5 m) for my use case, given I plug it directly into my controller. But again, this is mostly a nit pick.Overall, this is a pretty easy sell if you're looking for an inline microphone to pair with your existing headphones, whether it's for gaming or for calls. It's quite cheap and means that you only need a single pair of headphones, rather than potentially two for different use cases.

Background Noise
My setup consists of a iFi Zen USB DAC, connecting to my Audio Technica M50X, which normally provides a crystal clear sound, without background noise but sadly when using this microphone I have a permanent high pitch noise, which is caused by the microphone input, disconnecting this microphone removes the noise. The build quality of the cable is fine, but the control box rattles.

Good quality and works as expected
Does exactly what you'd hope, converting a pair of headphones into a headset with a simple cable swap. The microphone is good quality (comparable to ~£150 Sennheiser gaming headset) and comes with a small foam pop shield and a decently bendy boom. The clip has a resistive volume dial (i.e. doesn't control the system volume directly) which is useful to offset volume if the system volume level is too high. The cable is quite phonic (i.e. friction results in noise transmitting up the cable) but has a clip to attach to clothing which eliminates this.

Long term Review = excellent mic
This is a great mic, simple but works excellently. Solidly made and reliable.NB - I use this with audio technica M50s and I needed to also buy a USB plug in adapter for the cable - I wasn't able to use the mic by plugging in the regular audio jack.
