I recently purchased the Proctor Silex Deluxe Hot Sandwich Maker and I’m very happy with it. It has quickly become one of my favorite kitchen appliances because it’s very useful, intuitive, and super easy to use. From the first time I used it, everything felt straightforward. The controls are simple with no complicated settings, and it heats up quickly. You just assemble your sandwich, close the lid, and in just a few minutes you get a perfectly toasted hot sandwich with nice grill marks. It works great for breakfast sandwiches, grilled cheese, paninis, and even stuffed French toast. Cleanup is a breeze thanks to the non-stick plates. The sandwich maker is also compact, so it doesn’t take up much space on the counter or in the cabinet. My family loves the results the bread comes out crispy on the outside while the inside stays warm and melty. It makes quick meals so much more convenient, especially on busy weeknights. This sandwich maker is so simple and so freakin great! First of all, I picked this up used (in like new condition) for 25 bucks. I couldn't be happier. I originally was going to purchase a sandwich maker that created grill marks and I am so glad that I didn't. The ease of cleaning alone makes this worth the purchase. Some reviewers have mentioned that you can't do large sandwiches on this griddle - and that may be true to a certain extent. Admittently, the floating lid latch does not allow for very large sandwiches. However, you can still do a 2 to 2 and 1/2in sandwich without having to smash it down and close the lock. I wonder if some reviewers think you have to close the lid and lock it to do a sandwich on this, but you definitely do not. I have made a sandwich that is two and a half inches thick without having to smash it down, and it grills both sides of the bread perfectly. And I do mean perfectly!.. I'm amazed at how evenly the bread gets toasted. I don't even use any butter at all, and it's perfect. I have also done hot dogs on this griddle and am sure you can cook a variety of things which I absolutely will be trying out. I can't wait to do hamburgers, pork chops and steak in this thing! Many have stated that the cord is too short. And it is short. It is exactly 24 in from the back of the unit to the start of the plug. This is not an issue, at least for me, as this is used on a kitchen countertop where there are normally plugins. If you don't have outlets on your kitchen countertop area, this may be a hassle for some. I do wish there was an on-off switch, but definitely not a deal breaker. I highly recommend this unit and if it were to break for some reason, I would absolutely purchase another one new. The ease of cleaning is absolutely out of this world. I definitely do not miss having to clean between raised grill areas. This thing literally takes like 3 seconds to clean with a damp paper towel. Buy this thing and make some grilled sandwiches and anything else, and don't look back.

This little thing is the best item I've bought in a long time. I've only used it twice so far, I love it and I can see the potential with it. It's basically just me in my house now, and I haven't had a desire to cook. Tired of grabbing to-go meals(and it's getting too expensive) or frozen food. I started looking at these sandwich heaters. But I didn't like them, they all have a preformed cut out design, which IMO limits what you can cook on it. I may want waffles or pancakes once in awhile. Plus I don't like my sandwiches cut in triangles... And the reviews were bad on just about all of them, even big brand names. I about gave up finding something I liked and stumbled on this one. It's a flat surface and top and bottom and pretty good size in between the top/bottom so you can put a larger piece of bread or whatever in there. So I made a grilled cheese initially. Used 3 different types of cheese slices, and Bunny whole grain white bread. Made two sandwiches at the same time. Didn't use oil or butter. Came out perfectly golden brown and cheese melted to perfection! Came right off, didn't stick at all. Cleaned up easily with a damp paper towel(once cooled a bit). I also just made a couple egg sandwiches. Cracked two eggs in it, when done threw in some bread with cheddar cheese sprinkled on it, again, both sandwiches came out perfect. Made two more eggs, and this time I didn't keep looking, and within about 3 mins the eggs were done to my satisfaction, slightly over easy. Altogether, it's quicker, easier, less messy than using a frying pan for making either of those. 6 minutes and you're done ready to eat. As others have said, this thing is really a no brainer to operate. Plug it in, it starts preheating. Takes about 3 mins, then the green light comes on with a click. Throw your food in and close the lid. Grilled cheese and the eggs both cooked good in about 3 mins. Simply unplug, remove your food, and let it cool off before wiping it down. The eggs were a tad messier, but cleaned right up. Another pro, I managed to snag this about 10. off getting it through an Amazon Warehouse deal. The cons, and it's only a few that to me aren't a deal breaker; the outside metal does get hot. Be careful around small children, curious cats, mischievous dogs. The cord is rather short, it's maybe about 2 feet long total. My house is old, my kitchen outlets are up high for some reason. And I've spent the past 15 years or so staying away from non stick teflon type products. Guessing that's what this is. Just be careful that it doesn't scratch and don't use metal utensils to scoop food out. Otherwise, this is a great item, I'm very happy with this purchase.

20/10!!!! This is thing changes the game for sandwiches. The product I didn't know I needed! Only takes a minute and a half to perfect golden brown deliciousness. Heats up quickly, cleans with the wipe of a damp napkin or rag, and so compact that it can fit anywhere in any kitchen, big or small. One of the coolest kitchen gadgets I've purchased in a long time. Absolutely buy this!

I enjoy grilled sandwiches and up to now I was making them in my Air Fryer or toaster oven - NOT A SATISFYING OUTCOME. When I started looking for a SIMPLE sandwich maker, I found it difficult to find one that was PFAS free (not just PFOA free). . I don't need a food grill or something that handles over stuffed sandwiches or a huge piece of equipment.......FINALLY I found this one. It works as I hoped. Easy to clean (it's ceramic) with a small footprint. The only negative, but not a big deal for me - no on/off switch. You need to unplug.

UPDATE 04/05/23: A little over 1 year later, this little appliance has been worth every single penny I paid for it, it is PERFECT in my little RV! While I still haven't mastered a grilled cheese sandwich without burning the bread before the cheese melts, lol, it has performed wonderfully for EVERYTHING else: pork, beef, chicken, fish, bacon, omelettes, you name it, it's done them all perfectly! It's not often you can find such a real bang for your buck, this is it! Since the warranty has expired, I have installed my own UL approved On/Off switch making it even better/more convenient for me. The manufacturer could add this to the unit for less than $2.50/unit (total production costs) and really put the icing on the cake. Original post: I live in a small 20 foot RV which has a sink, but no kitchen (stove, oven, etc.) only a microwave, and have been looking a long time for something I can use to cook non-microwaveable foods indoors. Even the smallest air-fryers/mini-ovens/hot-plates/griddles would take up more space than I have (only 9-1/4" counter width between the sink and the wall) without having to put a board over the sink, and generate more surrounding proximity heat than their manufacturers recommend in close quarters. Having read the reviews on it, I particularly noticed "Scott's" review where he fried some eggs in it and thought I'd get it and give it a try on other things, too. I love the fact that it has flat surfaces with no grids, and fits perfectly in that minuscule 9-1/4" counter space with room to spare! I am still experimenting with making grilled ham & cheese sandwiches without nearly burning the bread before the cheese melts, but I'll figure out the timing on those eventually. In the meantime, I have had quite the successes with cooking small, boneless round steaks, ribs and pork chops, as well as fish fillets. Having thawed the meats completely, I simply pop them in the unit and plug it in. When the green light comes on, I flip them then unplug the unit , wait 2-3 minutes and they are cooked perfectly! No more HAVING to go outside to charcoal grill meats in the dead of winter, HUZZAH! Clean up is a breeze: once cooled down enough, a paper towel or two laid in the griddle soaks up the majority of the juices from the meats, and a damp, soapy, then cleaned cloth cleans up the rest in seconds. Only time will tell if the unit will go the distance, but at this time, I am completely satisfied with it's simplicity, lack of counter space needed, and how quickly and completely it has cooked everything I have tried in it. I will be adding my own UL approved on/off switch after the warranty expires for easier use. Lack of an "On/Off" switch would be my only drawback, but with all the positive things I like about it, this is a VERY small negative. For the compactness, ease-of-use, versatility, minimal external heat generation (outside cover DOES get hot, but does NOT heat up nearby wall/objects), and EASY clean-up it is well worth the small price of the unit, and I recommend it to anyone, particularly those who live in small. close quarters without much counter space.

This is a very simple hot sandwich maker and its easy to clean. It only fits two at a time on it but its worth it, if you are looking for one of these on a budget.

I don't write detailed reviews very often, but this product definitely merits a commendation! I've had this less than a week and I've used it at least 3 to 4 times everyday since it arrived! I absolutely LOVE this sandwich maker! Grilled cheese and ham or grilled cheese and beef sandwiches turn out evenly browned on both sides within about 2.5 minutes. BUT, so far I have ALSO cooked/grilled sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, scones, english muffins, french toast, pizza slices, sliced veggies, sauteed slivered onions, fried eggs (it makes PERFECT "over easy" fried eggs in about 3 minutes), hot dogs, bratwurst links, and pork chops, and I plan on grilling steak and chicken breast fillets on it too. I've just started experimenting, and I'm still discovering more uses for it - including baking refrigerated cookies and "pan frying" Chinese dumplings both of which I just tried this evening. The features about this griddle that I especially love are it's fast heating time, the fact that I can cook any item without having to deal with spitting grease, the fact that raising the lid to check the doneness doesn't result in a lot of heat loss, and the fact that it is so easy to clean. I also love that I need to use little or no oils or butter to cook things well. The thick sliced smoked bacon I cooked did generate a lot of bacon grease, but halfway through cooking, I simply set a paper plate under the front left corner of the griddle and tipped the front left corner of the griddle while holding both halves open by their handles. The excess grease poured out onto the paper plate just fine. I wiped the griddle corner with a sponge to catch any dripping residue, then closed the lid and resumed cooking. After cooking, I unplug the unit and just wipe out any remaining grease with a SOFT paper napkin and then I swipe the cooking plates with a clean damp sponge and let the unit finish air drying as the griddle cools off before storing it. It also stores conveniently, by standing it upright with the hinged end as the base. Besides it's versatility, the unit is compact enough that it can easily be taken anywhere - work, dorm, RV, etc. As long as you have electricity you're good to go. I can't speak to its longevity as I haven't had it long enough, but even if it only lasts a year, it will more than pay for itself, because I'm not using all the extra electricity required to pre-heat 6+ cubic feet of oven space in order to cook a small batch of something in my oven. This is the best grill cheese sandwich maker. It is a basic unit that excels at one thing and that is grilled cheese. It toasts perfectly and wipes clean easily when done. It exceeded my expectations.

This is such an awesome product! I've bought like 3 other types in the last year and a hal. From grill cheese sandwich maker to grilled sandwich maker, and they didn't last. They'd Crack on the outside if plastic, burn or loose coating of grilled area, not cook through or evenly. This one is the bomb! My kids and hubby and I all love the way it toasts, grills and heats through so it cooks whatever kind of sandwich you make to absolute perfection. It cooks golden everything, what it darker? No problem, put it through againor for a bit longer. We've had this probably about 4 months, and my family of 6, use it almost daily. Anything from breakfast, lunch, supper or dessert. Why didn't I find this during distance learning?? Seriously, you have to get this!

Have only used it the once so far. It took a while to heat up and the green light is not very bright, making it difficult to see whether it was on or off.. I had to set the timer on my oven to give me an idea of when the sandwich would be ready. The sandwich was perfectly toasted having tried it for 3 minutes, however. This is a quite basic appliance (no on/off switch or timer but it worked well and is certainly very easy to clean, which is a bonus.
