Some Usefulness
This can be useful on ling car rides or if you are in a place where you canโt play an actual guitar. I found it was good while you are learning triads, and for figuring out how to switch from one chord to another, but thatโs about it. You wonโt use it for very long, but it is somewhat useful for a time. FYI- You canโt pluck the strings, itโs only for fret hand use.

Not worth it; Surprised REAL companies haven't filled this niche
I decided to roll the dice on this since I was really only looking for something to mess with while traveling etc. The wires have too much slack in them for callous work, and the low tension means that chord practice and familiarization are completely impractical. Any attempt to tighten up the wires breaks them. Don't waste your money on this. It's shocking to me that there isn't a better quality product on the market. Seems like a niche worth visiting for real guitar manufacturers. Easy to pump out practice fretboards with their manufacturing capabilities and supply chains.

Good mock-up but high action
This is a mock-up of the first 5 frets of an electric guitar. Do not expect to play notes; it is not intended for that. It is for practicing your fretting, especially chords. The sizing is right. The strings seem to be real. There is an adjustment to keep the strings taut, but again, don't expect to tune them. The protective cover slides down and you can hold it in your right hand while you fret with your left. I wish the connection between the cover and the body was stronger; I can imagine it breaking some day. The action is high, about 2 millimeters. This is about what you'd expect at the 12th fret of a typical electric guitar, but the first few frets near the nut would be half that or less. This is 2mm everywhere. Combine that with the short strings and you get a difficult fretting experience. Being a raw beginner I wanted to practice getting my finger placement just right so the fretted AND adjacent strings all ring out clearly. It is possible to test that because you can pluck the strings (they give you enough picks!) but given the high action and tight strings it is quite challenging; much moreso than with a well-adjusted electric. And no, it isnโt really feasible to loosen the strings "just enough". So, if you just want to practice chord formation, I suppose it's a good tool. For practicing exact fingering, though, it's not ideal.

Well worth the money
I paid $14 and itโs a great value for the money. Big help to learn the cords between actual playing sessions on the guitar.

Good for Muscle Memory of Chord Shapes
This is actually an okay item (for the price) to help BEGINNERS build muscle memory of chord shapes. YES - it is cheap like other reviewers have said for this and similar products. NO - It does NOT feel the same as your guitar. NO - It will NOT make a good sound. I believe the ads have avoided saying that anything about sound - for GOOD reason. It sounds like a child's plastic guitar at best - except it's probably worse sounding. BUT, I use it a couple times in the evening while I am watching TV. I'll pick it up and form a couple of chord shapes. I've been using it to practice barre chord shapes. It CAN help you build muscle memory and help you begin to improve your ability to shift from one chord to another. I selected this particular product because it was cheap and looked about like all the others on the market. It's not something that you will impress ANYONE with. Despite the ads, you won't be playing this with friends. I probably wouldn't use it in front of anyone either. But the strings and frets are spaced pretty close to a guitar and the strings appear to be actual guitar strings, so you can start to build muscle memory for your chord shapes. I find it okay to practice a one chord shape at a time, but you MIGHT find it useful for switching back and forth from one chord shape to another. You won't be able to perfect your exact finger placement because you can't hear how your chords sound - do that on your guitar. In general, an okay prop for practicing chord shapes - and not much else. As you become a better guitar player, you will probably give or throw this away. I'm happy with the product for what it's worth. GLAD I didn't pay more money for one of the more expensive versions you can find from other sellers.

Don't misundstand what this product is EDIT: Broke
I read reviews of people saying they can't tune it or it sounds bad. Of course it does. It's meant for muscle memory. I've played guitar for 17 years. I just wanted something small I could have around the house to practice finger picking patterns. This works great. Might even take the fret board off. While the feel of a real guitar is nothing like this, this isn't meant to be that. If you want something that actually plays, buy a mini guitar. This is a cheap item used for muscle memory and nothing more. EDIT: lowered from 5 stars to 2 stars since it broke. I'm not sure if amazon will sell a nice one of these so either test your luck or skip entirely.

What it does
The item does give you a "feel" of fingers on the board. It is some what hard to tune. The board is far enough away from the strings that it changes the note that is produced drastically. I hoped for a close muted note sound to practice playing but this will not serve that purpose. It does however give the feel of the pressure that is needed when you play on a full guitar. This would help the beginner but the notes changing so drastically may discourage a beginner.

Works as advertised. No issue for left handed players.
This tool is designed for learning fingering on the fretboard, it is not designed to make accurate sounding musical notes. That said, it works great for it's design, and is quiet enough to use while watching TV, commuting, etc. For me, I use it to practice scales and cords at work or on the bus. There are a few reviews that state if you're left handed, you can switch the strings to left handed, but my take on that is, why bother? This isn't designed to be musically accurate, so I just play it upside down with the bass strings on the bottom.

Wouldn't bother
Bought for my 12 year old son. A string broke on his first go. Waste of money.

It works
The product itself is as you see it. It works as described. The strings don't hold their tension for very long so adjusting them each time is needed. I use it for practising finger positioning..
