Strange looking, but a good deterent....
Haha! Yes, this obviously is a very unique looking lock! But it is still clever and useful, in my opinion.I brought it to use for my motorcycle. The lock is at the end of the bar, and the bar is metal. The chain is covered, so the chain won't scratch any parts.I wrap the chain around poles or around the wheel of my motorcycle, then I take the bar and place it through some hole on my motorcycle (ex. through the brake discs). Then I take the T lock and attach it to the bar. The bike is secure. The chain isn't all that long so you may need to park it very close to a pole or something stationary, or get another chain. When in use, the lock is usually covered (motorcycle cover), but I do believe it is strong enough for the elements. This past winter, with the freezing temperatures, the lock worked just fine. And while NO LOCK is indestructible (given enough time and tools, a professional thief can get through just about anything), in my opinion, this is still a good deterrent. Keep the chain off the ground, so it's not so easy to clip. Put the bar somewhere not so accessible to a thief, but easy for you to reach it. Use another chain, if need be.One thing I don't like though, the T lock cover is made of plastic. I guess maybe that's to save weight, but in my opinion, some type of metal would have been much better.Anyway, i've had the lock almost a year, and so far I still have my bike. Some info:Weight: about 8 lbs. (chain and T Lock)Length: 4.5 feet (chain and T Lock)Length of metal bar: 10 inchesWidth of metal bar: 16mmThickness of chain: 11mm (or 12mm?!) hex link chainDust cover protects key cylinderChain cover is water and heat resistant----------------------------------------------------------------------------Update: Saturday September 13, 2014A few days ago, an attempt was made to steal my motorcycle. I had the bar and lock through the front wheel. And while damage was done to the surrounding area, they [expletive[s]] weren't able to break the lock.My advice to anyone buying this lock: try to put the bar through the body (core) of the motorcycle. Ex. if there is a gap between the frame and the engine, put the bar through the gap. If you have to use the lock through the wheels, use the rear wheel only. Putting the bar through the front wheel maybe a weak point. And again, try to fix your bike (with the chain) to something stationary, like a metal sign post or something that cannot be easily moved or cut.

Heavy-duty piece of mind with "insurance policy"
I purchased this chain for use with a Genuine Buddy 170i motor scooter in downtown San Francisco, and found that it works great for securing my scooter to just about anything. I slide the long rubber-coated metal shaft through one of the holes in my wheel once looping the chain around a secure pipe. The kit comes with a set off four keys, one of which has a button which activates a small key light, which is super handy for helping to find the key hold on the lock if you're locking or unlocking your equipment at night.A unique lock number is provided, and you can register this key with the manufacturer to allow them to cut you a new key if you ever happen to lose all four of your own.A purchase and registration of this lock also provides you with an opportunity to pay a little extra (just a few dollars) for an extra "insurance policy" of sorts. If the item which you've locked with this chain is stolen during the insurance period (1,2, or 3 years can be purchased) and it's directly due to a failure of the chain or lock, then the company will reimburse you. This seemed to be worth the couple of extra dollars for me.The chain is quite heavy - which I'm happy about, considering that I don't want it to be cut by bolt cutters, but it does add to riding weight (though I just store the device at home and take a more portable lock with me when I'm out and about). The only thing that is keeping from me from giving this 5 stars is the price. I paid upwards of $70 for this chain and lock. While I certainly appreciate how solid it is, $70 seems excessive for a chain with a lock attached.

Excellent theft protection, but a bit awkward to use
I bought this to secure my scooter after reading about the theft rates (!!) and like it much more than my previous bike-lock type setup. It's VERY heavy, but for a scooter or motorcycle, that's what you want. The locking mechanism is smooth and easy to operate and the T-loop design gives you a lot of flexibility. The only thing I don't like is that the locking head is almost always going to be on one side of the scooter/motorcycle, while the chain is on the other, requiring a bit of monkeying around to lock/unlock it. Not a huge deal generally, but I have to park at a very crowded scooter "rack" and it can be a bit of a pain. That being said, I know my scooter isn't going anywhere, and that's the most important thing!

Awesome lock
I'd give it 5 stars if the T handle thing was Made of metal. It kind of looks like you could just smash the crap out of it with a hammer but it's big enough looking that people might just not even try. In the picture you can see how I hook it up to stuff. Then when I'm on the go I just wrap it around my seat and I'm on my way. I would buy it again.

Big and Heavy
If size is a deterrent then this fits the bill. If you are securing your bike this will go through both front discs. If you have a hollow wheel hub I doubt this will be long enough. It isn't long enough for my Ducati. The only place I see a weakness is in the end where the key goes. I really can't tell how strong that end is and how well it would hold up to a beating.

DO NOT BUY THIS CHAIN: Horrible experience and not safe as it looks.
I have received two of these chains and both after 2 months of daily usage were stuck. The first time I was lucky that the chain was not on my scooter so I just sent back to amazon for a replacement. The second time the T lock mechanism was stuck while the chain was still on my scooter. I was really pissed off since I had to go to work. The lock part is made mainly by a plastic shell that I was able to destroy just with my scooter key and my hands/feet.It is incredible but you can just remove the yellow rubber on top with your hands and then from them yo expose the lock mechanism...Anyway, the chain itself is of very good quality, the lock instead is horrible, cheap plastic and not secure at all!DO NOT BUY THIS CHAIN.Horrible experience.
