This makes the FreezeFreeHose drinking water safe, no plastic taste, and durable. This material will not permanently kink and made in 5/8"ID for maximum water flow. FreezeFreeHose is black lined to prevent sunlight from the water source. The internal heater regulated using a new solid state Positive Temperature Controller. This means a thermostat is not necessary. Add an external thermostat like the Add-A-Stat (sold separately) for more energy savings. As the water in the hose gets warmer, the solid state PTC will produce less heat. When the temperature gets colder the solid state PTC will produce more heat. With the new solid state PTC the water temperature will not overheat. Other heated hoses waste the heat you purchased by applying the electric heat to the outside of the hose. However, one concern (and I am not sure how bad a concern it might be)...I can handle the fact that the water coming out is VERY warm, but what I WAS surprised about is the TASTE of the water after the hose is heated. I used the hose for almost two weeks without it being plugged in and everything was fine. After plugged in: Very strong odors, and the intense chlorine smell that is enhanced by the heat of the water is NOT pleasant. Bought a filtered water pitcher today, and it really did the job: All smells and chlorine are gone. But you have to wait for the water to cool down in another pitcher before it can be filtered, according to filter directions. Will unplug it when the nights are warmer. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far so good. *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 21, 2019* This hose works great but you have to be aware that the female fitting is closest to the bulky electrical component so it will not fit in small compartments. However, you can apply male/male and female/female to the ends to make the hose fit however you need. I would recommend getting the add-a-stat so your hose is not on constantly. The water does come out bath water temperature (which is good when it’s cold out). The hose will not prevent freezing if it is attached to any exposed hosing. The metal ends must be covered or protected from the elements. No leaks after two weeks of constant use. Seems sturdy.Update: I'm going through the second winter with this hose hooked up "full time" in mid-northern AZ. The sun has faded the color of the hose but it does not affect how well the hose works. No leaks. No extra insulation. The "add a stat" for $15 or so is worth it. It turns the heat on at 45-40 degrees ambient temp. Produces bathwater temperature water with a two foot snow fall on top of it. We went to Angel Fire, NM in what was suppose to be cold but not extreme weather. It ended up being a blizzard for a couple of days with howling winds and temps that dipped to -20. I wanted a GOOD heated hose for the trip so I bought this one. It worked PERFECT. It stayed flexible even in those temps. The electrical connection is well protected and stood up to days of constant snow, ice, and wind without letting moisture in and tripping the GFCI.
