This is a great game and was as expected. It is a good family night game but not a long strategy game and super easy to play so its accessible and does not require an all night commitment if that is an issue. I was worried my young adult son wouldnt like it or not do well but he liked it and won one game. The idea is very simple, you are given an event in history but that might be cultural too like what year did salsa become the biggest selling condiment or when was bubble wrap invented, and you dont have to really know the exact year but where it falls on your timeline which is always changing. This works then for younger people who will not know when JR got shot lol but often you have a sense of when something was and can guess the range although also you can be laughably 100 years off and so it does spark laughter and conversations about history too. I guess at some point you go through all the cards but honestly no one is going to remember all the dates and its really your random timeline that makes some more difficult than others so I dont see an issue reusing them. this will be a regular in our rotation.

I was introduced to the Timeline game(s) by a friend and found it to be a lot of fun (in a geeky way). I even had different versions of the game in my Amazon wishlist for several months, but then I found this game! Chronology had a lot more cards so I decided to give it a try, and I am glad I bought this one (which is actually a game created long before the Timeline games). First off, the game play is a bit different between the two games. In Timeline, everyone has cards that they try to correctly place on one large timeline until one player runs out of cards and wins (and has to grab new cards for wrong guesses). In Chronology, someone else reads you a card's topic and then you guess where it goes on your personal timeline, with the first player reaching 10 cards in their timeline winning (if you guess wrong other players take turns to guess and add it to their own timeline). Both games could easily be played in either style, but it is a little harder to have a personal card pile in Chronology because the dates are printed in large numbers at the bottom of the description (so you would have to carefully pull a card only partially out of the box or cover it with something), while the dates and description are on opposite sides of the card in the Timeline game (so a simple flip). However, the reason Chronology does this is because each side of the card has a different event (they suggest you decide at the beginning for everyone to use the blue or yellow side), which means even more playability! The next main difference is in style. The Timeline cards are small, which can make it hard for some people to see while creating the large group timeline. The Chronology cards are almost a normal deck size and printed with good sized font and have a simple and uncluttered design with no artwork. I really like (and miss) the artwork that makes Timeline games so fun, but having larger Chronology cards is nice too. This is really all personal preference. (And the Chronology game is still very travel-friendly in size, great for packing in a bag/backpack or suitcase for trips). I haven't played too much yet with Chronology, but the variety of events/topics seems good. I definitely think it is the better bargain because of how many cards there are (and with a different event on each side!), while Timeline can get expensive if you want all the different subject/theme packs. Of course, this means that Chronology is more mixed, which might be bad if you only wanted a certain subject/theme, but I see the larger variety in one as a definite plus. So in conclusion, I definitely recommend this game and encourage you to try it out yourself! :0) PS: For those interested in solo/solitaire play, Timeline is easier because the dates are on a different side, but it is still possible with Chronology with the before mentioned careful pulling out of a card from the box or using something to cover the date.

Great game for the family of different ages/generations. Rules are simple.

Fun game for teens/adults, recommended for 14+. Even a little younger can understand how to play and can get lucky with some guesswork, so they can participate with the rest of the family. It is good for a group larger than some games accommodate, but more than 6 or 7 slows adds to the playing time and may make it seem to go along too slowly. Overall, it was a fun trivia challenge!

A a recent family gathering, 3 generations sat down to play CHRONOLOGY and all enjoyed. Ages ranged from 10 years old to 83 years old. I love that there is really no skill involved, you can just guess. If you are a history buff, like my 83 year old father, and you've been around long enough to really see some stuff, you might have a bit of an edge, but even the best of us is forced to guess at the dates every now and then. The rules are simple, you get a card to start with. The card will list a historical event and the year it occurred. This is the starting point of your time line. With your next card, you need to decide if it happened before or after the date of your first card. From there you are building a time line, deciding where in your series of cards the events occurred, the first player to build a correct 10 card time line wins. It's simple, doesn't require keeping score, a timer or rolling dice, everything is in one compact box that is easy to take on the road to a friend's house. I will say you need a lot of table space to play this, laying out your cards in a line, especially if you have 4 or more players, takes up a lot of real estate, so pick a big table! Overall I think CHRONOLOGY will become a welcomed addition to your family game nights. Game play is quick, so you can use this as an ice breaker or filler at a party. You can even decide to build a shorter time line of only 5 or 8 cards, depending on how much time you have. It is especially fun at a New Year's Eve party, while waiting to usher in a new year, it's fun to reflect on all that has already happened!

Not for anyone under 21! You must know history to like this game. Excellent conversation starter and fun to play.

This is a great affordable game for all ages. My kids have a blast guessing all the dates and surprise me with how good they are at guessing. This would be a great gift for someone looking for a fun family game that gets everyone involved.

This game is sooooo fun!! We play with the kids and friends at almost every gathering and always have a blast. Easy to learn and very educational!

I have an old 90s version of Chronology that had cards ending in the early-mid 1990s. This 20th anniversary set updates the game and introduces other ways of playing. The twin faced cards are an odd choice, though does allow a team play session. Chronology remains a hit at games night and lets you have little anecdotes/jokes at later dates on past sessions.
