WELL MADE - SILENT - CLEAN
I am giving the Luna Pillow Covers 5 stars after trying several different brands of pillow covers. Why did I buy these in the first place, you ask? They are expensive, after all. Well, I'll tell you! I want waterproof pillow protectors to keep my pillows from absorbing drool and perspiration (Yes, I know...YUCK.) Sorry to break the news to you, but you drool when you sleep. Yes, I'm talking to you. And you perspire when you sleep. I'm talking to you, Princess. And where does all that yucky stuff go? Yup...it is absorbed into your pillow. And over time your pillows become stained and stinky and gross. So...I want waterproof pillow covers that I can wash in hot water. Much easier than washing pillows. Plus, I never like how the pillows come out when I try to wash them. I choose to get a high quality pillow protector rather than try to wash the pillows, or spend extra money replacing the pillows on a frequent basis. I like to keep my pillows for a year or two, and a high quality pillow protector will keep the pillows totally fresh and clean.OK, so...on to the evaluation of this product:- - A key criteria in my evaluation is that the Luna pillow covers are ABSOLUTELY SILENT. They do not make a crackling sound when you touch them. This criteria is very important to me. Many other brands of pillow protectors make a crackling sound when you put your head on them, and I don't like that. The crackly-sounding pillow protectors may work perfectly fine, but the crackling is a deal-breaker for me. It seems tacky or cheap. I sure would not like it if I were a guest in someone's house and the pillows crackled. Super tacky. What if you were in a hotel and the pillows crackled? I wouldn't want to put my head on that crackly pillow.- - IT CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND "SILENT" WATERPROOF PILLOW PROTECTORS ONLINE. You don't really know if they are silent until you buy them and try them out. Many products will say they are silent in their descriptions, and when you get them...nope. If "Silent" is one of your purchasing criteria, then you may purchase this product with confidence. They are indeed silent.- - These pillow protectors are well made and well sized. I have read the other reviews that fault the product for a zipper that does not close all the way. These pillow protectors have "invisible zippers", if you know what that is. They are very narrow, tight-fitting, closely-toothed zippers, and it takes a little "working" to get them all the way closed. They close up tightly if you flex the fabric and work the zipper at the end of its run...no problem. I will say that I do not know if the zipper closure is tight enough to keep out bed bugs...that is not an issue I deal with. I'm not judging, I'm just saying that it is not an important criteria for me.- - The manufacturer says that the pillow protectors protect against dust mites (and other mites, I will assume). Seems reasonable, given the structure of the product. I am sensitive to household dusty stuff, and grossed out by the idea of mites in my pillow, but I am going to have to take their word for it. I use synthetic pillows, but I would think this criteria would be especially important to folks who like down or feather pillows.- - Other reviewers have also stated that they thought these pillow protectors are too large and they end up with extra loose fabric at the end of the pillow. I did not think they were excessively large. They have a little extra fabric, probably to accommodate all different makes and models of pillows. I thought they fit just fine. I have extra thick "gusseted" pillows, and the pillow protectors fit just fine. - - Some folks did not like that these pillow protectors have a terry cloth outside surface. I have no problem with the fabric. It is a high-quality, very fine terry cloth, completely suitable for the product. It is not rough or coarse. Remember also, Grasshopper, that you will be putting a pillow case on the outside of the pillow protector. Crazy me...I also put on a non-waterproof pillow protector on the outside of the waterproof pillow protector. Sort of a pillow protector for my pillow protector. You might think that's overkill, but I think it keeps everything nice and tidy.- - Other reviewers also thought that the terry cloth surface made it difficult to slip the pillow into the pillow case. Oh, come on, kids...you fold the two corners together, hold them with one hand and push them into the pillow case. You know, just like pushing a Possum into a Gunnysack. I know they don't have Home Ec class in school anymore, but I know you can do this. Ask your Grandma if you need a demo on this. Don't let that mean ol' pillow case defeat you.POSSIBLE CONS:- - The pillow protectors have a soft and flexible "rubbery" lining - I assume this is the part that makes them waterproof. This lining makes the pillow protector hold some air when you zip it up...leaving the pillow sort of "poofy". I overcame the poofiness easily by just pressing out the air before I finished zipping them up. No more poof.- - With these pillow protectors on my pillow, I noticed a VERY SLIGHT change in the texture of my pillow. I would describe it as a sort of "marshmallow-y" texture. This was a very, very slight effect, and not a deal breaker for me. I know lots of folks are quite particular about the texture of their pillow, but I'm just so glad to get in bed and lay my head down at night that the texture of the pillow doesn't keep me awake. I'm all like "Yay! I'm in bed! I love my bed!"- - Other folks have stated that this pillow protector made their pillow hot. I didn't notice my pillow being hot. The next pillow over is pretty hot, though =).- - I cannot say if the pillow protector makes the pillow 100% waterproof against spills, urine, etc....not something I deal with.- - I cannot say how durable the pillow protector will be after frequent laundering. This should be something for a future review, after it has been washed for 52 weeks or so. It is interesting to note that the pillow protectors do come with a 10 year guarantee, so maybe I'll save my receipt and make sure they perform as promised.OVERALL: I highly recommend these pillow protectors. I would buy them again.

Excellent Pillow Protectors
I have had another type of protector on my pillows for many years as a defense against dust mites. The recent epidemic of bedbugs made me decide to investigate a box spring encasement. After reading reviews on Amazon, I decided to replace my pillow and mattress encasements with Lunas and add the Luna box spring encasement as well. This is a review of the pillow protectors; I ordered three on Amazon and they arrived quickly. My original pillow protectors are made of a taffeta material that is very slick. In fact, it is so slick that my pillow cases wouldn't stay on my pillows. As a result, I had to use king sized pillowcases on standard pillows. In contrast, the Luna pillow protectors are made of a sort of rubbery backing material with loops like terrycloth on the surface. This material is a solid weight, the seams appear to be well sewn, and the zipper is properly installed. As I had just washed my original taffeta covers, I left them on the pillows and installed the Luna pillow protectors over them. The standard Luna pillow protectors seem to be properly sized. I have cervical pillows of various designs and vintages that all fit into a standard pillowcase, and they all fit into the standard size pillow protectors I selected. When I saw the rubbery backing fabric, I wondered if the pillows would be too hot to sleep on. I found that the terrycloth loops compensate perfectly and the pillows are actually cooler than they were with my original covers on them. Moreover, the terrycloth loops are not slick, so my pillowcase stays on! This is a great improvement because now I can use a pillowcase size to match my pillow. As other reviewers have stated, there is no plastic or rubber sound, feel, or smell. Another reviewer stated a need to keep the zipper slightly unzipped to allow the air to escape from a foam pillow. As my pillows are poly fill, and as my goal is to keep dust mites at bay, my zippers are shut and there is no problem with the pillow protectors feeling inflated around my pillows. Others have commented that they have had good experiences with washing and drying their Luna products, so I don't anticipate a problem. I wash in cold water and line dry, but the instructions say you can tumble dry low. I have not tested whether they are truly water repellent as claimed.I am very pleased with this American made product and recommend Luna pillow protectors.

They have gifted me with every possible disgusting scenario imaginable within the confines of my bed
I have to admit that I am one of those people who rely heavily on reviews but rarely write them myself. This is one of those occasions where I am so compelled by the quality of a product that I have to write a review. I've had my first Luna set of Luna mattress covers for over three years now. The reason I need mattress covers is the fact that I have a small pack of french bulldogs that sleep with us every single night. They have gifted me with every possible disgusting scenario imaginable within the confines of my bed.The Luna mattress covers have saved me every single time! They are bullet proof, simple as that. I can wash them in hot water to sanitize them over and over again and they hold up. I made the mistake of buying a similar cover at Target thinking I would get the same performance. That cover was not cheaper, I just happened to see it while there and the convenience of being able to buy it on the spot swayed me. Big mistake! The waterproof lining started to de-laminate almost immediately and during an overnight soak completely de-laminated!I've purchased two more Luna covers since then and I will never buy anything else. I also plan to purchase a few to sew into liner covers for my couch cushions. Like I said, my first set is over three years old and still going strong. They are also cool to sleep on and completely silent. The quality of this product cannot be overstated.
