Newport NV-Series Thrust Saltwater Transom Mounted Trolling Electric Trolling Motor w/LED Battery Indicator

I put this on a 1436 jon boat and just to push my grandson, granddaughter, girlfriend, and myself around the lake/river and target big bluegills and crappie. I have to say that Newport knocked it out of the water again with this 86# thrust trolling motor. The power is awesome and the responsiveness going from forward to reverse to forward is fantastic. Great trolling motor.

I’ve had this trolling motor for about two years and it’s very powerful for my little 16 foot aluminum Lowe. Due to my own ignorance I didn’t realize when I bought it that I would need 2 separate 12V batteries instead of one. You can run it off of one 12 V battery, but it will not even reach near the motors capacity. No complaints on its performance. If you have a smaller boat like I have, you may want to consider a 12 V trolling motor so you don’t have to deal with two batteries as weight can be a concern. When fully charged I can get about 2 1/2 mph out of her. Really I bought it as having a back up motor in case I break down but eventually I think I’ll just downgrade to a 12 V.

I am rewriting my review for my Newport 86lb. Everything was fine for four months and then it started going downhill. First the breaker to the positive cable went out. As it happened, it was on a recall. Rust. That was easy to change. Most recently both of my plastic O-rings broke. The O-rings are responsible for the height of the propeller shaft. Then yesterday the nut that holds the wing nut in place to tighten or loosen the steering jammed simply because it is not Stainless Steel. I had to pay someone $130 to install both O Rings. Took him A good 45 minutes. Yes, Newport will send you the parts free but does not Assume responsibility for the labor to change. As a single female I cannot be expected to repair. Finally, although the web page writes motor is good for fresh and salt-water environments the Newport telephone rep said it’s necessary to remove after every use. I just very upset this motor is from China and very cheaply made. Ultimately, I’m going to have to go back to a gas motor because I am not going to deal with plastic Chinese parts that break so easily

Seriously, happy with this motor. The power for the price is outstanding. I would happily buy another one if this one starts acting up in the future, but as of now and having it over a couple seasons, I’m extremely satisfied.

Had my Newport 86lb 24V for about a year and a half and have used it almost daily. It developed a seal issue and quit working. I made a warranty claim and was expecting the normal "send it back and we'll replace it". I sent all the info and pics requested by Newport and was very pleasantly surprised that within a couple days I received an email from Newport support with a tracking number for a brand new replacement motor. The motor is strong, Newport was great to deal with, and they stand behind their warranty. A+++!!

Works well on my 10 foot inflatable Avon. FYI I bought the largest size and it requires two 12 Volt batteries. I have used it in saltwater all summer with no issues

AMAZINGLY QUIET AND DOES THE JOB RELIABLY. We have a 21 foot WOODEN skiff that is heavy heavy heavy. This little guy propels her quietly. Relaxing, easy to install. We are on a large creek off the Potomac and she is fine in moderate wind and tide. Wish we had done this years ago after the ongoing wrestling matches with gas outboards that are heavy, a nuisance and maintenance demanding. We considered buying TWO for the boat now. More powerful electric outboards will cost thousands and will have more power but for fishing and enjoying and peace, this is the way to go.

I purchased this 86 lb thrust Newport motor over other unbranded motors because I liked the responsiveness and reputation of Newport. I used this 86 lb thrust motor to replace my underpowered 34 lb thrust Watersnake motor, and my MinnKota 55 lb thrust motor. My watercraft is an inflatable SeaEagle Paddleski. The first (lowest) speed of this 86 lb thrust Newport is actually TOO powerful; the boat lurches forward. My first thought: "Wow, this is going to be some super fast motor!" When I want to move slowly without disturbing waters or wildlife in wetland marshes, I have to keep turning power on and off. Now, when you want to go faster, and you shift to a higher gear, the boat goes only a little faster. On a scale of 0-100, first gear is like a 50. Each sequential gear goes faster by about 10 more; so second gear is like 60, third 70, fourth 80, fifth 100% Not sure who designed this gear ratio, but it is wacky. So, anyway, my go-to choice is my ol' reliable MinnKota 55. This 86 thrust Newport is kind of disappointing, I'm very sorry to say. I really wanted to make it my first choice of motor.

This electric motor is very good. It has plenty of power and is light for its capacity. The battery indicator always stays on. They could have turned it on with a switch. The biggest issue for me is that at speed 1 it's way too fast. On the other hand, between speed 3 and 4 the difference is less obvious. I've only been using it for a month, so hard to say if it will last.

This motor was ideal for getting my small sailing yacht in and out of harbour. Much better than the smelly, noisy, dirty, 2-stroke outboard it replaced. It was always stored inside the cabin when not in use, and taken home and stored in my house during the off-season, and very carefully looked after. Yesterday, the upper controller unit caught fire for no apparent reason, so I'm stuck without propulsion in the middle of boat racing season. Not impressed, as an electric system like this should last many years more than 3 1/2 short summer seasons. I am contacting Newport Vessels today and do not know what can/will be done. Will update later.
