Filtrete Standard Under Sink Water Filtration System 3US-AS01

Our city water was getting worse and worse with a lot of chlorine flavor. The filtered water on the fridge is great, but for filling pitchers or anything more than a small glass of water, it takes forever. If your refrigerator doesn't have a water dispenser, this is the answer. We recently had triplets and have been making baby formula by the pitcher, and wanted to be able to use filtered water. I was skeptical about this unit because of the price, but decided to give it a try figuring we could always replace the standard filter with the advanced model if it didn't seem to be doing the job. We have been very pleased with the unit, and in my limited experience don't see a need for anything more complicated or expensive than this. It is sturdy, has a large filter and it came packaged with everything needed for the install when standard 3/8" water lines are in use (almost every kitchen faucet uses this size). We installed it on the cold side of our faucet only in less than ten minutes. One of the quick-connect fittings had a slight drip at first, but after removing and reinserting the tube and giving it a wiggle it seemed to seat just fine. I believe the instructions direct to not use it on hot water, and don't know why you would. The difference in flavor is night and day. My wife is pickier about her water than I am, and will now freely use the kitchen tap for drinking water. The chlorine taste is gone, it's at least as good as what we are used to coming out of the fridge and is very close to any bottled water. Anything that we would want filtered drinking water for we can now get quick and easy right out of the tap which is great for larger quantity items like juice. It did slow the water flow slightly. The product is advertised as flowing 2 gallons per minute. Before installation, I timed filling a gallon pitcher at 29 seconds, almost exactly 2gpm. With the filter in place, it slowed slightly to about 35 seconds per gallon, about 1.7gpm. Practically speaking the difference is minimal. Highly recommended, quick and inexpensive, and you'll appreciate it the first time you make a gallon of juice or don't have a refrigerator dispenser.

This under-sink filter system made attractive claims that enticed me to try it: it is easy to install (they claim under 30 minutes), and does not require a separate faucet (it works through the existing cold tap). In addition, it claimed that you still have "full water flow." But would it really turn out that way? Often such claims prove to be more marketing than reality. I was adding this filter to a wet bar sink, so there was not much room under the cabinet, and I really needed not to have a separate faucet, as there was no space for it. The installation was easy (two screws to hold the bracket to the side of the cabinet - while the bracket seems to slide out of the screw, so it is not firmly fixed in place, it is stable and that is adequate), and the filter inserts with a twist. The plumbing was easy - if your fittings do not need to be replaced. In my case the risers (from the hot and cold shutoff valves up to the underside of the faucets) were old copper fittings, and didn't quite stretch to the new positions, so a trip to the hardware store was required to replace them with newer, flexible, risers. Once that was done, inserting the Filtrete fitting between the riser and shutoff, and back to the faucet, was simple. One word of advice - the included blue tubes which push in to the fitting on the filter bracket push in a short distance and stop. I stopped there, and when I turned on the water, they leaked. I checked the instructions, which said to push the blue tubes in HARD until they stop. When I did it again, they went past the first "stop" and went in noticeably farther. This time there was no leak. When I turned on the tap and let the water run for 7 minutes, as recommended, all seemed well. But when I returned to use it later, it was only a trickle. Clearly this was not "full water flow." I had noticed some charcoal particles loose on the outside of the filter, which I assumed resulted from shipment. I contacted the manufacturer, who, after verifying the model, said this was probably charcoal from the filter, and, if so, the filter may have been damaged in shipment. To verify, she suggested I try the unit without using the filter, to see if pressure returned. It did not, but I also noticed that my hot water (which was not filtered) was also running just as slowly. I suspected that something was blocking the water at the output spigot, rather than in the cold water line, as it was affecting both hot and cold. I removed and cleaned the output, and found some bits of charcoal caught in the small filter at the end of it (I should point out that the customer service agent informed me that there is a higher model that uses a one-piece filter, where this type of problem can not occur). Re-assembling, I turned on the tap and found very near full water pressure. It is definitely not "full water flow" - as in 100% of what it was without a filter. However, it is probably in the vicinity of 85%, which is more than adequate for my use. In summary, installation was indeed easy and quick, but subject to normal home plumbing issues. If there are charcoal bits loose in the filter package, you may need to clean them out if they are caught in the faucet output filter, but the filter really does do the job, and water flow remains good. I'm pleased with it.

I live in an apartment in a southern burb just outside of Denver, CO, and this town erroneously has their own water supply which they feel is fine for consumption and general use without any negative side effects. That is up for serious debate, as I have to have a filter on the shower in order to just feel clean, and a filter on the kitchen sink in order to drink. And you should see the mineral film that is a constant problem in the dishwasher--but that's OK, "it's perfectly safe". Yeah, right. So after killing off a sacrificial goldfish with the unfiltered water out of the tap, I thought it was a good idea to get a filter for my own safety and well being. I had tried one of those attach-it-to-the-faucet types, but it was chunky, ugly, and didn't stay on the faucet, so I returned it. I wanted something that was more hidden, without being one of those chemical-plant looking, under-sink-space-choking, rob-a-bank-expensive types. I just wanted something that would work for a fair price, that I could remove and take with me when I leave, and was a BRAND NAME. And I came upon this one. Ta-da! This is a great filter for the price. Super easy to install, was done in about 15 minutes. You could put one of these under every sink in the house--easily. Instantly, I noticed a difference in water taste--from almost well-water tasting to big-city-water tasting. Ahhh. Finally, I didn't have to worry about feeling I was coating my innards in a calcium/lime/mineral film. I would definitely recommend it, but if you are in an area like this that has seriously bad water, change the filter more often than the recommended 6-month interval. These are certainly not for "whole house use"--they are designed to be "specific use" as in being in specific locations around your water taps. If you live in an area where there is really bad water, or just want to clean up more of what your municipal water does on a grander scale, then look into whole house systems/water softeners that are installed at the starting point of your water line coming into your home. PRO: Price, ease of installation, ease of use, the fact that it does what it says it does, replacement filters well priced and easily available online--and may be available in big-box home improvement stores (even for special order for in-store pick-up). CON: Not recommended for hot water use, so adding one to the dishwasher is out. Wish they had a filter cartridge exclusively for hot water use, so that in cases where you do need a good filter for protecting the mechanics and removing the gunk from your "clean" dishes and utensils, you could have the option.

I live in an apartment complex built in the 1920's. The pipes are pretty bad and I was getting some rust in my water. After installing this I've noticed better tasting water and definitely less discoloration due to the rust. While this product works great and would have been incredibly easy to install if my water supply connections were 3/8", I experienced some difficulties given my 1/2" connections. Installation Advice: Check your supply connection. Measure the diameter of the supply lines to see if they are 3/8" (outer diameter of .5" typically). If they are 3/8", you'll have no problems and installation will take less than 30 minutes. You don't really need to know how to use anything but a wrench if this is the case. If you have 1/2" connections, you will need to go to the hardware store to get adapters. The instruction manual does not give any advice on what type (it literally says go to the hardware store). When you go to the hardware store take the connection piece from the filter system AND the supply line for your sink (obviously turn the water off first). Use these parts to get the right connections - remember you will need TWO conversion pieces for the two separate connections needed for installation (one into the sink, one at the supply source). Once you have the right parts, installation isn't too much more difficult - you just have a few adapters to put on first. BEFORE YOU MOUNT: consider putting the filtration system on the side of your sink cabinet - NOT the back. The back tends to be less supportive and the force used to get the filter bottle in or the force from turning on the water can easily rip the screws out. I recently had to purchase a new faucet for my kitchen sink. I bought a new Delta faucet and installed it just fine, however, when I went to install my PUR water filter on the faucet, I found that it would not fit this faucet. I did some research and found that some of the newer faucets were designed this way so as to not cause strain on the faucet. I then found a recommendation for an under sink system. I didn't want to buy an expensive system with a separate faucet so I turned to my old friend Amazon. I found this particular filter system and ordered it. I was a little skeptical of this item, but I thought I would give it a try. I received it 2 days later (YAY PRIME!!) and went to install it. Now, I consider myself to be handy, I have more tools than I know what to do with, but I usually end up at the very end needing something else to finish a repair or install. Well not this time! I followed the instructions and had it installed in about 25 minutes. NO LEAKS!! I turned on the faucet and let it run for the 7 minutes it recommends and then tasted the water. Oh my gosh what a difference. This is the best water I have tasted in Tulsa, Oklahoma since moving here in 1990. I have used PUR and Brita systems on the faucet and they worked well, but they were bulky and the filters needed to be replaced all the time. This system makes the water taste exceptionally better and you can't even tell its there. I guess the real test will be in 6 months when I change the filter for the first time. I hope they truly last that long. I am going to recommend this to everyone I know in Tulsa.

I did not lose water pressure and it works great. Easy installation and much better water taste/sediment gone. For those of you confused about the whole 3/8 or 1/2 inch male/female stuff here's a easy breakdown: 1) OK, follow your cold water line to the bottom where you would unscrew it, there will be a hard pipe coming out of the the ground that connects to a hose line that goes up to the faucet. Where the hose and hard pipe connects is where you will unscrew during install. 2) If the hard pipe in the ground is threaded(male) (meaning you screw the hose line onto the hard pipe) you should be fine b/c the threaded part on the hard pipe should be 3/8" which means the hose is 1/2". If this is the case your good to go. 3) If not it's really not a big deal go to a hardware store and go to the plumbing department and tell them you need a 3/8 to 1/2 connector for your under sink water system. The only thing you will need to know is which side is 3/8 or 1/2 (threaded(male) vs screw in part(female). Or just buy both and return one later it's not going to break the bank.

I was dealing with a slight sulfur odor from my tap water and this filter is taking care of that plus putting out crystal clear water. Before this filter I was using a faucet filter which was OK for a glass of water or ice but it was somewhat of an annoyance to use because it restricted the flow of water so much while this system allows the water to flow at normal pressure. This system is also more cost effective with it's 6-Month filters for a few bucks more than the faucet ones that I replaced every couple months. Installation was a breeze. Within one hour of UPS delivering this thing it was installed, everything cleaned up, and all the junk stuffed back under the kitchen sink. All that is needed for tools are two small crescent wrenches to disconnect and reconnect piping, and a screwdriver/drill to mount the filter bracket with three screws. The only sink disconnection required is at the cold water shut-off valve below the sink and the filter then connects right at that point. The directions are pretty straight forward and anybody that can turn a wrench can handle this simple DIY project.

We recently moved into a new home with a municipal water supply. After 34 years of great tasting well-water, the chlorine taste and smell was really noticeable. We had initially planned to install a faucet mounted filter (like a PUR) but with a pull-out spray type faucet this wasn't possible. Some of the competing filters either reduced flow rate or required drilling through the countertop to install a secondary tap. The reviews on this were positive, so we gave it a shot. It was easy to install, and provides very effective filtration, providing good tasting water from the cold tap. A secondary benefit is that the hot water supply remains chlorinated, providing at least a low level of disinfectant to dish washing. Finally, when it's time to change the cartridge (recommended every 6 months), it's a very easy twist-off, twist-on procedure (you don't even have to shut off the cold water supply). Have only been using it for a month now, so I can't attest to the length of time the cartridge remains effective, but so far we are very pleased,

Just arrived yesterday and installed in less than an hour. Had to install a new shut off valve, otherwise it would have taken 40 minutes. Seems to be working great. Installed this to replace our Brita water filter jug. One thing that I liked about product was the ability to order 3 different levels of replacement filters. Water tasting good. Thanks Filtrete.
