Having started to do my own car maintenance because I was getting tired of being gouged by dealerships and local shops around the area, I decided to invest in some jack stands. I decided on Torin before I decided on these jack stands. Torin is a good quality name that has a good reputation (at least in my circle of friends), so choosing them was a no brainer. The difficult part was to buy the right ones. I drive a smaller car, a Nissan 350Z, so I was going to pull the trigger on these 2-ton stands you're reading my review about ( Torin T42002A 2 Ton Double Locking Jack Stands (Sold in Pairs) ). HOWEVER after additional thought, I decided on the 3 tons of the same style ( Torin T43002A 3 Ton Double Locking Jack Stands (Sold in Pairs) ) because my fiance drives an SUV and her car is over 2-tons. I didn't want to die by getting crushed with weaker rated stands. What's somewhat humorous to me is that as of 4/18/2012, the 2-ton DOUBLE-LOCKING stands are $25.25 on Amazon, yet the 3-ton DOUBLE-LOCKING stands are only $24.99. So for 26 cents LESS, you get stands rated at an additional ton each. What's even more weird is that the Torin 3-ton stands NON-DOUBLE LOCKING Torin T43002 3 Ton Jack Stands (Sold in Pairs) are $29.99!!! It was a no brainer which is the best buy! As for the quality, the welds seem very good and the construction is top notch. I chose this model because it's double-locking. Accidents can happen and since my life would be in jeopardy if something failed; I am taking the most extreme precaution when working under my car. The fact that these stands lock not only once (via pin), but TWICE with another locking lever keeps me safe. The only con is that there is no instruction booklet... but if you're working on your own car (or deciding to), I would assume you were mechanically inclined and therefore would know how to use these stands. They are really easy to use so I can't really consider the lack of a booklet to be worth docking a star.

Product is excellent, made very well and sturdy strong. I would buy again, and again. Thumbs up.

I really liked the double locking feature of these jack stands. I would have much rather bough a set that was made in the USA but finding a set that is actually produced here seems to be a fools errand unless you have a ton of money to spend. For the money they seem to be a great quality. Unfortunately I failed to notice that the floor jack I have did not lift the car high enough to get these under the pinch welds under my 05 corolla. But with some ingenuity we were able to get them underneath. They supported the car well, never moved and felt very stable through replacing my back struts and my front brake pads. There were a few times that we really had to torque some of the parts down and still the car didn't budge. There were some reviews about the welds that made me pause in buying these pads. I tend to spend a long time shopping for things since I want to make sure that my purchases last a long time and that I get the absolute best price I can. But after reading many more reviews giving these good praise I went ahead and purchased them. I have never welded in my life, but from what I could see these held my car just fine, with no signs that they may fail. Granted, I bought the 3 ton jack stands for my 2,500 pound Corolla. I figure bigger is better when it comes to something that is holding a car above you ( I also had my wheels under parts of the car, as well and the floor jack just barely touching the jack point just in case). My car was up on these jacks for a total of 6 hours and never budged. I would highly recommend.

I ordered these Big Red jacks after returning three sets of Harbor Freight jacks to their store after they recalled several models of stand jacks. I was pleasantly surprised when I received these Big Red jacks. I bought two sets of 6-ton jacks and one set of 3-ton jacks with the anticipation that I might need to return them if the quality was not acceptable. I was concerned about some of the reviews that seem to be from some time ago. These Big Red jacks show very good manufacturing quality with clean welds and consistent finishing in all six jacks. The safety pin is a must for me, and they fit fairly good on all possible step heights on all of the 6-ton jacks. On the 3-ton jacks, I had to grind and file a little bit the first three or four teeth on both jacks to make them fit properly. Not a big deal, but something I shouldn't have had to do. I adjusted the teeth instead of the pin or the pin opening because they fit well in all other step heights. It is not a product that I would be buying often, but I am very satisfied with the product. The quality of these Big Red jacks is probably five times better than the recalled Harbor Freight jacks that I wouldn't risk my life going under any vehicle with them. Also, these Big Red jacks seem to have a capacity of 6 tons each (very sturdy), as opposed to Harbor Freight 6-ton jacks capacity for the pair. Same thing with the 3-ton jacks capacity vs. HB 3-ton pair capacity. You can do your own research, but just looking at the Big Red jacks you would realize they are much more strong and sturdy. The safety pin is also peace of mind since you cannot raise or lower the jack without disengaging the safety pin.

These are very nice jack stands. They're sturdy and the locking pin makes me feel just a bit safer under the vehicle.

These jack stands work great. I’ve never used a set with the double locking pin and I really like that. They are simple to assemble, just slide the black piece in the red piece and bend the tab over. Self explanatory if you’ve ever used a jack stand before. Oh and another reviewer complained about how having to assemble a piece of safety gear yourself seems unsafe - something about bending the tab over. The tab just keeps the top from coming back up out of the bottom if you were to pick the jack stand up from the top. The tab bears no weight. Just an FYI to anyone who doesn’t understand the purpose of the tab. I would question the quality control though. After seeing all the photos of horrible welds, I immediately checked mine upon arrival. I am not a welder by trade, but have done a minimal amount of welding here and there. To me, the set I recieved does not appear to be too bad. There is a spot here or there that isn’t perfect but for the most part I think the welds are sufficient. Possibly the company read these reviews and fixed their QC dept, or possibly I just got lucky. I do wonder why they chose to only weld on the inside and not on the outside though.

I have old Craftsman jack stands lying around. I wanted to upgrade them, so I did. The Torin jack stands are perfect for my auto repair needs. Easy height adjustment and I really like the extra security of the locking bar to prevent any mishaps. Quality jack stands.
