Dr. Tanni Haas has organized brilliantly a rich, concise compendium of insights as articulated by one of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, Carlos Slim. One can choose to access by one or more topics or digest it fully. The recurring themes of personal responsibility, intelligent work, and crisis as opportunity speak directly to Mr. Slim's extraordinary success and reveal, poignantly, the brilliant light of his inner compass. Slim's financial wealth appears to stem largely from a vast inner wealth, anchored no doubt by personal commitment and an apparent light hearted sense of humor. Like Phillips' "Lincoln on Leadership", this is a book you will want to keep within arm's reach! Thank you, Dr. Haas!

If you read a couple of interviews of Carlos Slim it is enough. No need to read this book. However, it is combination of all the highlights of his speeches. Good for those who doesn't want to read his interviews one by one.

As someone who has always been interested in and read a lot about all the "usual suspects" - Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg, etc. - I was excited to finally get a chance to learn more about Carlos Slim, the Mexican telecommunications magnate and fellow multi-billionaire. I was particularly impressed by how much interesting and useful information this books contains. You will learn about Carlos Slim as a business man and human being, his many accomplishments and, most compellingly, his views on lots of business-related topics. My overall recommendation: Buy it, read it, learn from it!

There's a lot here -- both for the business entrepreneur or MBA student seeking insightful commentary from a powerful tycoon, AND for anyone interested in global sociology and learning about what makes the richest man in the world tick. Carlos Slim has many incisive comments to offer on a range of topics, from business and investment to philanthropy and education. Tanni Haas does a marvelous job of using Slim's words to present a very comprehensive picture of a man whose sheer wealth and influence make him an irresistible subject. Highly recommend!

This is a fascinating book. Through well-chosen quotes, editor Haas draws an in-depth portrait of an extraordinary entrepreneur. In addition to, naturally, Slim's thoughts on business, Haas has rightly chosen to include comments on Slim's private life, his personal journey and the values that have shaped him and contributed to his huge financial success. In a very few pages, Haas gives the reader an in-depth understanding of a complex public figure. A highly enjoyable read!

The love the watches got compliments the very first day I worn them.

I had read abour 80% of these quotes online, was not to my expectation.

This is not a book. It's a collection of pithy quotes organized (poorly) around topics (chapters). It gives the reader no insight into Carlos Slim's business acumen or thought process for investing in and running his various businesses.

The quotes are in Slim's own words, but they need to be anglicized. His broken English limits the transfer of knowledge and I think if it was in Spanish it would read a lot better. Also, most of his quotes are publicly available on the internet and so there's no need to waste money on this short "copy and paste" book.
