Best of the Ultimatum Series!!
Well I guess that is not saying much since all the other Ultimatum books were weak. I really enjoyed this one though and as I have enjoyed all of the Ultimate Spider-Man's. Definilty recommend this one for any fan of the Ultimate Universe.

I hated this so hard I went blind in one eye
The ultimatium series is best described as " Hey cool I really like that character, oh whoops, now he's dead." If you want to see the Ultimate Universe's version of your most delighted characters crash and burn in a poorly written and paced abortion of enormous proportions, then any of the ultimatium books are for you.To add more insult to injury, half of the Ultimatium Spider-man book is included in the March on Ultimatium collection, so nothing says fun like paying 45 bucks to get two books and then realize you really bought a book and a half at best.

High point of a dreadful crossover
Ultimatum was terrible, but Spider-Man's tie-in issues are really good. There are aspects that are hard to understand as a new reader (I'm still not sure what the story is about Spider-Woman), but Bendis basically uses these issues to let his supporting cast shine. A tidal wave destroys Manhattan, and Peter Parker's friends and family have to deal with the devastation and their own fears for his safety, and every piece works beautifully. From the funny and honest relationship conversation that Peter and MJ have just before the disaster to the silent final issue that is both unexpected and perfect from a writer with such talent for dialogue, this collection is satisfying and worth a read, especially for anyone who was disappointed by the Ultimatum event in general.

One of the few highlights of Ultimatum
So this is the one story that really feels strong throughout the whole ultimatum storyline and guess who wrote it? Brian Bendis the man behind the ultimates world to begin with. The whole ultimatum thing should have been handled by Bendis and Millar. If you want to read the one gem from the terror that was ultimatum then pick up this nice conclusion to the ultimate spiderman world leading into the slightly revamped (but still awesome bendis writing) series.

This is actually...
...the book that should have been Ultimate Spider-Man 22 and the end of the series of that title. However, Marvel have titled it this way to tie in with all the other Ultimatum titles. If you're confused, let me explain.Marvel's Ultimate Universe was created as a fresh take on its major heroes and villains and it was fresh. The Mark Millar/Bryan Hitch Ultimates was the Avengers with a vengeance and one of the best super hero titles around -still is, come to think of it. Alas, under different hands it went downhill. Ultimate Spider-Man written by Brian Bendis and, for most of its run, illustrated by Mark Bagley was fresh and consistently entertaining for the entirety of its run. Until now. Changes in style meant that the mainstream Marvel Universe had grown closer in tone to the Ultimate version so the powers that be decided on a massive shake-up of the latter in order to differentiate the two. They did this by creating an enormous genocidal Magneto-caused disaster in which the world is changed and many major characters die and that is the background against which this graphic story is set.The first couple of chapters are pretty much standard Ultimate Spider-Man but then we get the Ultimatum disaster which, frankly, I'm not really interested in. New York has been hit by a title wave, the Hulk is loose, Dr Strange's sanctuary is leaking magic and monsters, Spider-Woman the Peter Parker clone is back. It would probably make more sense if I read the companion stories, but, as I just said... If you're into the Ultimatum saga then you'll probably love this. To me it's just the disappointing end to one of the most enjoyable superhero titles that Marvel has published for years and I'm sad to see it go as I really liked this refreshing reworking of the character. There is a new series just started with a different title and I'll check out the first trade edition. Hopefully I'll like it mroe than I'm expecting to.
