These are storage jars, not canning jars. I experimented on my dime so you won't have to waste yours learning the hard way. To wit: I slowly poured boiling water into a jar and almost instantly, the entire bottom broke off. I realise that they are not sold as canning jars, but other people have asked if they can be used as such - the answer is no. I also agree with some of the other reviews concerning the cheap quality of the metal fasteners. I use mine to store spices and for this, they are perfect.

First of all, the quality of these are great. I suppose it depends what you are going to use them for as far as capacity. They advertise that they are 12 ounce jars. OK. I am using these to hold coffee beans and ground coffee. Granted, coffee beans have some air gaps between them, but I could not get more than 7 ounces of coffee beans in this container. Ground coffee, because it is more dense, gets you about 8 ounces. I was really confused as the 12 ounce containers that I bought only holds about 60 percent of advertised amount. I grabbed a container and filled it with water and transferred it to a measuring cup- 18 ounces. What ?Oh well, they are the size and shape that I wanted. For me, if they were any larger they would be hard for me to use for my intended purpose. If you buy these, use the measurements size and not the measurement amount when deciding whether to purchase or not

Update: I made another purchase of the same glass jars because that's the only availabe jars of this size. To my surprise the metal parts improved so much so that I changed my rating from one to five. Good job for listening to the customers!The size is exactly what I need.However, the metal parts are very poor quality. The metal hook fell off from the clip as shown on the picture.

The glass is nice and thick, the rubber rings are nice, great price but the metal hinges are super cheap and horribly made fell apart on me a couple times : / Haven't check if they are leak proof a possible concern to me because of the hinges.....

These came very well packaged and are perfect for storing dry goods and preserves. They’re a perfect size too.

One of my jars had a slight chip straight out of the box. That aside… the jars are nice, they are liquid-tight when the ring is aligned properly. I wash mine in the dishwasher without issue. The labels they come with are helpful. They don’t seem as good quality as typical name brand mason jars but are good enough for now
