Best freeze-dried meal I’ve had
This Peak Refuel Beef Stroganoff has fantastic flavor and texture. It is honestly the best freeze-dried meal I have ever had, and it tastes much better than what I usually expect from backpacking or camping food. The texture is really good after rehydrating, and the flavor is rich and satisfying. It would be great for backpacking because it is lightweight and easy to prepare, but I could also see it being useful for camping trips or emergency food storage.Overall, I’m very impressed with the quality. If you want a freeze-dried meal that actually tastes good and feels like a real meal, this is an excellent choice.

Tasty - add extra water and soak time
The ample quantity of meat bits tastes like real beef, the mushrooms are fully of mushroomy goodness and the noodles are a kindness to my tired body. The portion is revivifyingly large for one hungry person and reasonable for two who have been eating lots of hiking snacks. It's not going to replace the coconut chicken curry in my heart, but it is definitely something easy and tasty to look forward to at the end of a trail day.One caution is that the instructions understate the water and soak time and can leave the meat and mushrooms a little crunchy. I find a full 400ml of boiling water and a 20 minute hydration time with a second round of stirring/mixing half way through gives good results.Given that it's better in quality (and in quantity) than the fast food I might easily buy on the way to the trailhead, I'd say these are even pretty decent value as pre-packaged backpacking meals go.

Backpacking
I must admit it was better than expected, the consistency and texture of the food was OK for what it is. The meat has a beef jerky texture, but besides that it was fine and the sauce was a good addition. I do recommend waiting at least 10 minutes as advised on the package before eating and allowing the water to mix in with the food really well.

The best
Peak refuel Beef stroganoff is the undisputed best backcountry meal. Delicious and very filling following long backpacking days. Would give 6 stars if I could.

Almost perfect!
Absolutely delicious! Great portion size, good ingredients, and really filling. Loved the mushrooms and the sauce. The meat had good flavor but it was cut into small cubes and they still didn't rehydrate very well. The noodles rehydrated really well and held up to a little longer soak/steam than the package said. The sauce thickened well at the 25 minute mark.If this was a couple bucks cheaper I would be inclined to stock up on these. I think Mountain House is a better value and the flavor is a pretty close runner up to Peak. All in all, it was a great warm meal at the end of a long day on trail.

Excellent!
I have been looking for something to replace MH products. It's been a number of years now since their freeze-dried food has been anything but barely edible.About Peak: The noodles actually hydrated...turned into noodles! Sure, that should be expected, but other brands have not done that for years. The 'beef' in this packet actually has the taste and texture and chew of real beef! Seasoning? Very good. Not spicy, not OVERseasoned to hide some other shortcoming.Price? High. 40-50% more than others. Are you happy with chewable, hard pasta in your camp out bag of dinner? There are less expensive products that will fill that menu item very well. Would you prefer a product that properly hydrates, tastes good, and makes for a very good dinner at camp at the end of the day?Try Peak. It is arguably on the expensive side. It is also without question far superior to what has been my tried and true (and now not good at all) dehydrated camp food brand.

It’s ok.. not great.
I am sure I have had worse food … but I’m not sure when or where. Flavor is ok .. definitely not great. The noodles are broken so it all ends up like the consistency of oatmeal. I used 1 cup of water vs 1 1/4 … otherwise it would have been the consistency of soup.
