Long overdue CD re-issue of Smokie's 1979 studio album the Other Side of the Road, which hit #17 in Germany. Includes the German hit singles 'Do to Me' (#10), 'Babe It's Up to You' (#8) and 'San Francisco Bay' (#9). 'Do to Me' also hit #16 in Australia, proof of Smokie's global appeal. Booklet contains original LP artwork, liner notes, lyrics and loads of pictures of rare European singles sleeves. 7Ts. 2007.

I hope this is not a fake
This is a good Smokie's album, the first one without Chinn and ChapmanNot their best album, but a solid one.It also has bonus tracks (so-so)On thing I do not get about the CD - it has song names wrong.Instead of "Too many pennies in hell" it says "Too MAY pennies in hell".And instead of "San Francisco bay" it says "San FRANCISO bay",You can actually see it on the cover image supplied by Amazon. So what is it, a fake?

Terrific Gift
My brother grew up with this band and it made his Christmas when he received this CD and the other one from Smokie "Midnight Cafe".

the most underated band
for any of you, who like me, live in north america, we were neverintroduced to one of the finest soft rock / ballad bands of the seventies.I lived in israel up to the age of 13,then moved to canada in 1980, I got here and to my surprise...Smokie was not known to anyone. records not available.I freaked out and immediatly contacted freinds over seas to sent me the complete collection. The songs are great. The melodies catchyand Chris Norman's voice is amazing.Smokie(the original line-up) has been part of my life since I was 12.Over the years in Montreal. I played their music to many peoplewho are also HOOKED.This particuler album was not necesserally their best, but stillis one of my all-time favorites. This band has sold millions of records in Europe and as far as australia.... Only North america missed out.

We All Know Smokie UP HERE !!!
I agree with the other guy... this isn't smokie's strongest album but I'd still recommend it to anyone.I've loved Smokie eversince I can remember... the mid 70's. Everyone around here knows Smokie. I don't know what it was. I find that a lot of people didn't know em in the big metropolitan areas. A guy I knew (back in the 90's) from Iran knew Smokie and I was shocked but of course, I didn't know much back then. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that, yes, a lot of people loved Smokie here in North America... plenty !

Hidden Jem
The music on this CD is pretty advanced for 1979, three years before they changed their line-up. No wonder, as this is the first Smokie album where most songs (exept track 7) are written by group members. And although their previous works, penned by successful N.Chinn/M.Chapman songwriters duo, remain popular and are better known, this one is a little hidden musical gem. The digitally re-mastered release brings back to life superb music arrangements (all instruments are played by the band members), touching lyrics and husky lead vocal of Chris Norman, including subtle humorous sleeve notes. It does not matter whether you are a Smokie fan or not, you will find a song on that CD that reaches out to you. In my opinion it's the logical culmination of Smokie's musical development despite the fact that this wasn't their last album.

undeservedly unappreciated album
I grew up listening to three albums: Queen's "A Night at the Opera", Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and this one. Not being a big fan of Smokie, I consider "Other Side of the Road" a masterpiece. It is really some sort of a mistake that the album hasn't been released in the US. If you like both classical rock and independent music, like I do, give it a try.

other side of the road
This was the album that got me through my parents split up over 20 years ago. The words to songs such as "You don't care" are just awsome. I have always loved Smokie music, but this is my favourite album.

ROBERT OPALKA
"The Other Side Of The Road" is one of my favourite Smokie album. I bought it hoping to improve listening quality over my original German presssed LP. This CD turned out to be a sonic disaster. It sounds harsh , distorted and does not come remotly close to my 30 year old LP. I presume that some or all tracks were rerecorded from vinyl 45's , not master tapes. At the end of my favourite song " San Francisco Bay" I can clearly hear wow and flutter , proving it was rerecorded from poorly pressed 45 rpm single.I have a high quality audio system including Yamaha CD-S1000 player , so any signal distortion on my side is out of the question.ROBERT OPALKA , Warsaw , Poland

One of the best Smokie albums ever
I really like this album. One of the best Smokie albums ever. Perhaps my opinion is different than majority's, but anyway. This album contains some songs which are not typical to this band, but I like them.
