ECOTRIC 59" x 39" x 5.1" Universal Adjustable Roof Rack Cargo Carrier

Ok, so I’m all about writing a good review when it needs one. This came in very fast, and is very durable!!!!!!! I was so nervous about the quality, I’m a sceptic when buying things online. But I have to rant and rave about this one, my family and I are going on a trip and this is going to be a saving grace when it comes to saving room inside the car. It is think steel I think, it’s on the heavy side but I being 5’7’’ could put it on top of the car in a pinch. But I am a little handier than most. It’s very simple to set up but had my husband tighten all the bolts down because the screw backs (I think that’s how you say it 😂 I said I was a little handy, I just don’t know all the lingo) they have rubber gaskets inside that you really have to wrench down. But this thing isn’t breaking anytime soon. It’s very big I would recommend two people but not impossible for one. It’s feels larger in person, but the measurements are correct. I would recommend to annoy one needing a cargo rack on the top of their car!!!!!

My son got this for Christmas last year, so he’s had it on his 4Runner about 6 months. He said he loves it and likes the look it gives his truck. It doesn’t whistle or make any noise which is nice. The few times he’s actually put anything up there, it worked great. Him and I installed it easily one afternoon with no issues.

Overall, I am quite happy with my basket. It fit great on top of my 10 crv (i was only able to get it to fit well with one of the center sections). price is nice and affordable. Looks pretty snazzy up there. Downsides? one of the poles were bent, making initial installation a bit of a hassle as i had to bend it back to fit. this seems to be a common issue that i've seen in other reviews. annnnd... it is starting to rust within 7 days of being installed. I am going to try flex seal spraying the whole thing like someone else did.so 35$ ish for 2 cans and $80 for the basket (round $115ish).. still much much less than say, a yakima basket. i still think it is definitely worth it. just dont purchase this unit thinking it wont need a bit "extra"

Good price point but needs improvement which I did I I added stainless hardware and added two aluminum 3/8 solid rod to the inside center supports which did not add but a few ounces of weight but added double the rigidity once all pressed together is almost like one complete none flexing basket

Easy to put together until I found the bend tube. It’s a quality control issue and they painted it that way and put protective rubber caps on.

Sturdy cost effective way to secure your gear. I may repaint mine with a more hammered look, kinda glossy and I don’t care for that much. But still an effective way to transport and sturdy.

It had a couple of bent connections that I had to fix. Instructions weren't clear. Had to really examine the picture to figure it out. The wing nut that tightens the rack down has bolts that protrude up. So if you were to slide something in, it will scratch, gouge, or tear it. Imagine if you had a board and took the time to screw 4 bolts through it, then turn it over. Would you want to put something on top if those 4 bolts stabbing through? But what really annoyed me is that it immediately rusted. All over my vehicle. Incidentally, because I'm older and now wiser, I don't trust things. So before assembly, I spray painted it with 2 cans of flat black rustoleum paint. Then, I sprayed it with 2 cans of black flex seal. I figured it would be getting wet, in the sun, so I wanted to overkill protect it. Unfortunately because I was spraying black on black, it was hard to make sure I got every inch. Anyways it appears to be rusting at the connections. So even with my preventive measures, it is dripping wet rust water all over. Just look at the pictures. This is after 2 weeks of it mounted on my vehicle, and it has rained a few times.

Easy to install and good quality

Arrived quickly. Cheaper than other name brands on this site, yet great quality. Very easy to assemble. With the extension, at 64", it's perfect for my MiniVan roof. It allows up to 250lbs of cargo, while protecting my van roof! I can put 4 large plastic totes on this carrier and just tie them down, or put my carrier bag on top to keep everything protected from rain or snow. I love it!

My roof basket was damaged upon arrival. The mating sections are bent out of shape, preventing assembly and installation from being possible. There should be no fixing or modifications necessary for a brand new item. The overall construction of the rack is poor. The metal is very thin. It is held together with small tack welds, and has many areas for water to get in. These racks are also known to rust internally like crazy, and leak rusty water all over your vehicle. These would probably completely rust out in a few short years. A decent quality basket should last for many years and perhaps decades or more with maintenance. This may look similar to Yakima or Curt baskets, but do not be fooled. It is no where near the build quality, and quite a bit smaller in many ways. It's not actually 67" long either. If you live in Canada, I highly suggest just getting the princess auto roof basket along with an extension. It is better in every way, larger, and nearly the same price when it's on sale. I thought this basket was essentially the same as the princess auto one, but it is paltry in comparison. Another thing to note is that there are no extensions available to purchase for this basket. There are similar extensions on Amazon and other places. They look close but they are in no way compatible.

Giving 4 stars because for $150 it is a great product, feels really sturdy. The main issue is the bars all have holes in the tops because it wasn’t welded all the way around, no wonder all the reviews complaining about rust. I spent about an hour going around the whole thing and filling each hole with clear silicone RTV and wiping off the excess. I would also recommend giving the whole thing a thick coat of clear coat as the finish is thin and scratches easily. Over all a good buy for the price and if you invest some time you may be able to prevent some of the issues other people have stated.
