## Description

ZK-MG is a High-power PWM DC motor governor.It can adjusts the motor speed by adjusting the duty cycle of the output signal.
It can also adjust the output frequency to match the frequency of the output signal to the motor frequency, allowing the motor to work more stably.

**Q: Is there a way for this to be powered-up in off-state instead of on-state ?  can be a hazard otherwise**
A: When power is applied, the controller will output voltage that is set by the last used setting. By pushing the rotary voltage adjustment knob the voltage output will be shut down. Push the knob again and preset voltage will be outputted once again.

**Q: Controller worked well for about 2 weeks before making a high pitched squealing sound,  anyone else know why?**
A: Overloaded Mosfet transistor for the PWM output or failed PWM driver most likely.

**Q: Can this br used with a permanent magnet motor?**
A: This controls a plain DC motor, a permanent magnet type.

**Q: What does the frequency setting control if you can already control it with the high and low settings?**
A: yES IT ABSOLUTELY WILL GO UP IN FLAMES IF YOU PUMP 2000 WATTS THROUGH IT.

This motor controller is very easy to set up with its screw terminals and easy to use with its minimalist interface.The single rotary encoder changes the duty cycle, which is displayed on the LED display and short pressing it toggles the output which is indicated by the green led on top.Its easier compared to lots of push buttons. There is a solder terminal for an optional external on/off switch which can be connected to a momentary switch, shorting it seemed to toggle the output.I liked that it can be used out of the box without tweaking any settings, the frequency was set to 20KHz.Long pressing the rotary switch gets it into the settings mode, where the lo/hi duty cycle can be set along with the frequency. In the settings mode, short presses cycles between the 3 settings and a long press gets it out of settings; see the associated video.Once the duty cycle limits are set, turning the rotary switch doesn't get the duty cycle below or above the limits.The output PWM seemed very clean on the scope with no noticeable spikes or jitters. The soft start feature is good too, see the attached video how it slowly increases the duty cycle to the set value.I tried it with some 12v LED strips which worked great without any flickers and I used it with a 12V, 5A motor for a small drill press it worked down to 16% without any buzzing. There was no noticeable heating of the components after 10mins of use with the motor and an hour on a 50cm (1.5A) LED strip.The only thing I missed was a step adjustment setting, the fixed 1% increment takes a lot of turns to change through a wide range. Overall a great buy for controlling high load motors and fans.

he controller worked out of the box but there are three parameters you can set to make it work better. The first two parameters are high and low limits for duty cycle. The controller uses Pulse Width Modulation to vary the rpm of the motor. The controller doesn't change the voltage to the motor, just the amount of time the motor is receiving power. The default lower limit for duty cycle is 0 which means the motor never receives power. The default high limit is 100 which means the motor is receiving power 100% of the time. The motor I tested with doesn't run with a duty cycle below 30. The speed control knob on the controller doesn't have stops like normal potentiometers. It just continues to turn in either direction, raising or lowering the duty cycle. This means that while my motor stops at a duty cycle of 30 the controller can still reduce the duty cycle to 0. In order to start the motor again I'd have to turn the knob until it hits 30. With setting the lower limit to 30 the controller never goes below 30 no matter how much I turn the knob and it starts right away when I increase the duty cycle.The controller seems to be well constructed. The case is plastic but sturdy enough. The circuit board looks clean and well made and the solder joints clean. There is a place on the board to solder in a stop switch. After adding a switch it works as expected. When open the motor is allowed to run, closing the switch stops the motor. There is a slight delay (<1sec) before the motor resumes after opening the switch. There is a diode on the board to prevent damage if you hook power up backwards.Tech support was responsive when I had questions. Email was answered quickly, usually within a day.

I used it to control power from an 18v battery into a small motor. The worked well for maybe 20 minutes of use over a 3 week period then died. The screen flickers on then off after hooking up power and will not work. The battery and motor leads work perfectly - the controller is broken.It is a really good looking paperweight. Would not buy again.
