Seducing and Killing Nazis: Hannie, Truus and Freddie: Dutch Resistance Heroines of WWII

A must for anyone interested in history!
I have been fascinated by the Oversteegen sisters and Hannie. There’s not a lot of information regarding them that’s accessible in English. I first heard of Truus when she died and I remember reading about Freddie’s death. I so wish they had been as widely recognized as they now are, just a year or so after Freddie’s death. They were all extraordinary women and I am so thankful to have found this book. It is very detailed, has wonderful photos, and provides a massive list of sources that the author complied the information from. I read this book in two hours immediately after I got it in the mail. I wish the book was 500 pages, I want more details about the missions they carried out. However, I know Freddie was more reluctant to speak about her experiences. I am so fascinated by these courageous women that I wish every detail was recorded and available. But this book does a great job of covering a lot of information. It’s laid out in an easy to understand way for someone who did not grow up learning about the Dutch resistance during WWII and really paints a picture of these women’s lives. I would highly recommend it to middle or high school students as well as anyone who wants to learn about these women or just female resistance fighters in WWII. I am thankful for this author and for her being able to share the Oversteegen sisters and Hannie with us. This book is truly a must-read because for so long have these women in particular been overlooked, but female resistance fighters in general. GIRL POWER!

A Frustrating Self-Published High School Presentation
You'd think that someone like the author who had befriended the sisters could do their stories justice, but that's not the case here. The book reads like an author's notebook, this happened this day, then that happened after that, and so on. Not to mention that more than half of the book is fluff and filler, large spacing between lines, pages that you could easily stick another photo on - hardly worth the $25. Amazon lists it as being 228 pages, but when you count it up, that number is padded by the 24 in the front (table of contents, listing of each photo, intro, etc) and 53 in the back (acknowledgements, citations, and appendices), and ~68 picture pages and blank pages, for a total of 145 pages that aren't the story itself - WHICH IS 64% OF THE PAGE COUNT!! The reason I bring this up is because I was frustrated by how quickly the book was over with, and I was left wondering what happened to the story itself. There is nothing compelling about the content of this book where you want to turn the page, as the story is lost in the minutia of listing out people's addresses, whose house stuff happened in front of, who knew who - especially when there is no significance explained. Additionally, you would think that if you are going to reference all of these places routinely, a map would be used in the beginning of each chapter, but this isn't the case. If you have to get this book, get the ebook.

I cannot believe I wasted my money on this mini composition
I am Dutch and have read many great books on the Dutch Resistance. My parents were part of the Dutch Resistance. This book does not do justice to these Dutch women that risked their lives for their country and their people.

An amazing story of strong, courageous women during a dark time in history.
Never have I been so excited to delve into a new non-fiction book. Especially one centered in a subject matter I am so passionate about from an author who has such an interesting perspective on the subject matter. I encourage you to get this book if you like to read. Especially books that empower women, deal with the holocaust and injustice, are historical, and are great reads. Sophie's personal relationship with two of the three women gives her a very strong platform to share their stories. The photos included in this book are very powerful and add so much to the story of Hannie, Truus, and Freddie. After reading it I took time to reflect on the plight of these women and really be thankful for the life I was given and the world I was able to grow up in. While some non-fiction books can seem too wordy and fact driven for some pleasure readers, this one doesn't fit that bill. Sophie weaves the story of these women through an impressive amount of research and interviews in a way that reads well and would be easy for someone who isn't normally a non-fiction reader to get in to. I couldn't put it down and finished it in a couple of hours. I personally can't wait to share the story of these women throughout lessons taught in my US History classes and to catch her on her US Book Tour in September.

Misleading Title and Very Dry
This book reads like a research paper or a thesis. I guess it's okay if you like data and hard facts but quite honestly I don't find addresses of every building mentioned in the book relevant. The author obviously did her homework and I'll give her credit for that, but the book just doesn't read well at all. If you want to know every detail of the Dutch resistance movement maybe this book is for you, but it's just not what the title suggests. But my main complaint is the title. There was barely any mention at all in the book about actually seducing and killing Nazis (a couple pages, at best) The book is simply about the Dutch resistance movement. I bought it because of the title and description and was severely disappointed. Would not recommend.

Incredible
This book took me to a place I will never fully understand. An unimaginable time where young women were put in situations that challenged them, forced them to mature too early in life. Remarkable! I can only hope my daughters will be this strong if placed in a similar situation. Thank you Sophie for your work.

I greatly enjoyed this book
I found this book accessible and giving the topic i didn't find it overly "heavy". These women's stories are so important to share and to learn from. The question posed is a question for the ages. I greatly enjoyed this book it is not the end all be all of the story it is however an excellent book that wets the appetite for more information.

Courage
I loved this book. We need to show our young women role models of courageous women in history. The book really had me reflecting on currant politics. Just a good read. I couldn't put it down.

Not a good read
Historically correct but written in a way that makes it very boring.Feels like it was written by a University student which is a shame because the women in question were brave and heroic.

Terrible writing
Probably could have made a great story but sooo sooo terribly written. Feels like I am reading a high school biography project. Disappointing, especially for the costly price of the book. Thick book, but most are just pictures including things like "The windmill across from her house" or "Hannie's Purse". I couldn't even press myself to read past the first few chapters.
