What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable? If these are thrown away with regular trash will they biodegrade?

Accepted Answer

Biodegradable means the decomposition of material with biological activity with help of microorganisms. Compostable means decomposition of the material in controlled environment to break down the material. Yes, our bags are biodegradable in either anaerobic (without oxygen) or aerobic (with oxygen) condition and rate of degradation depends on type of environment.

Are these unscented bags (as in no-added fragrance)?

Accepted Answer

There's no added fragrance, which is great.  They are made out of corn, I believe, so they have a vague smell of that, but nothing perfumed.  I love this product; it's made litter box clean up so much easier, and I feel good that it's biodegradable, so it's not cluttering the environment with plastic bags.  I used to use paper sandwich bags, but I have two cats and the little bags just didn't allow for the amount of clean up required.

Question 3

Besides the handles, are these any different than the bioDOGradable poop bags for dogs?

Yes.  These hold 11 lbs. and the poop bags for dogs only holds 4.  The dog bags are only half the thickness of the cat bags.  I have purchased both to use for cat litter and I would not purchase the dog bags again.  I am currently doubling the dog bags.

how long do these bags last NOT in use? I see that they start to break down after a few days of use but not shelf life

I think the question about shelf life eludes to the fact that some of the various bio based disposal bags for pet waste will start to stick together and break down as in tears along the seams or they become fragile to the point that tearing a single bag off from others has resulted in bags tearing to the point they are unusable. I have experienced this with several brands but haven’t tried these extra thick for cat litter pickup bags specifically. Since they are extra thick they may not degrade just from laying on a shelf or pantry as poop bags do, after about a year to 18 months.
