GalcoSAO Single Action Outdoorsman Holster for Ruger .44 Super Blackhawk 5 1/2-Inch

I broke this in satisfactorily per instructions. Then I found out my SBH shot high @ 25yds with 305 gr bear loads and rear sight bottomed out. Higher recoil raises POI on high-powered hand guns. This is a common thing as most folks shoot 240 gr with less recoil. Ruger installed a higher front sight blade at no cost to me to allow the needed elevation adjustment. That taller front sight blade dug into the holster's sight groove.. A LOT.. So, I went through the break-in procedure again and used a small, round rasp to remove a little of the leather in the sight groove. It fits great. I loosened the holster's tightness adjustment screw and may eventually remove that whole device as I have done on another holster for a S&W 9 C. Although I prefer a THUMB BREAK retention strap for their faster draw, I have learned to use my trigger finger to lever the strap open while gripping the gun to speed things up. The added cross draw capability allows for convenient strapping onto my back pack.This is a handsome, classy holster.I can't understand the 1 star review of this because the leather on my holster is strong enough to withstand being run over by an 18 wheeler.4/11/2021 EDIT:I have had my shoe/leather maker add an additional snap to the tip of the retention strap after discovering that my S&W 4 inch 686+ and my S&W 5 inch 629 both fit well enough to carry with the additional effective length added to the strap. Although I would not have bought this model GALCO specifically for the 2 S&W guns, I can use it for them. It looks and works well.

I have owned some very good holsters and some very bad ones. This is one of the finest. My revolver was a little too tight at first, but after following the break-in instructions from Galco, the gun fits perfect and slides out like it's greased. The retention strap is just the right length. The holster holds the revolver securely. No chance of it falling out. Even if the strap were not snapped. The belt loop is heavy duty, so the holster remains in position during the draw. I intended to wear this holster in the cross draw position for easy access, but it is so comfortable on the strong side hip that I've been wearing it there instead. This holster works best with a 1 3/4", heavy duty gun belt, like the Galco SB5 or SB6.

Purchased for my Uberti Cattleman 45, fits like a glove. Have a Ruger Vaquero 44 and it also fits like a glove. Quality leather and stitching, will probably buy another one.

No break-in required for this fine Galco product. Pistol fit is not too loose, not too tight and the holster sits comfortably on the hip if you have the right belt. While it’s not really a cowboy action holster it’s perfect if this type of pistol is your sidearm of choice.

Great quality holster, can't say anything negative about it. I use it on my 3-screw Blackhawk .357.Makes me feel like a cowboy walking around with this on my hip.
