SIX OF CROWS: CROOKED KINGDOM(COLLECTOR'S EDITION)

This book completely and utterly destroyed me! I am still shook and its been three days since I finished it. Leigh Bardugo has made me her No:1 fangirl with this book and this duology. This books picks up right where Six of Crows ended. The crew is making plans and setting everything in motion to get back Inej back and wreak havoc on Van Eck who dared to cross them. Everything seems to be going according to plan but then suddenly out of nowhere, things start falling apart. “What about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? We learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. We learn to wring magic from the ordinary. That was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. When the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway.” SoC started out a little slow because I had to get used to the world and all the different characters. Crooked Kingdom on the other hand is jam packed with action from the very first page. It was a crazy roller coaster ride of twists and turns, highs and lows and crossings and double crossings. It was dark, complex, multilayered and hands down one of the best reads of 2018 Told in multiple POVs, each and every character leaves an unforgettable mark on you. If SoC was an introduction, Crooked Kingdom guves you an indepth character study of all the members in the gang. Right along with the action, seamlessly incorporated into each page, is the past and future, dreams and fears, strength and weakness of each member of the gang. I didn’t think I could fall any more in love with the characters of JKaz, Inej, Nina , Mathias, Jesper and Wylan but I was proved wrong again. It was a beast of a book with more than 500 pages in the hardcover but I still finished it in under a day. I literally couldn’t stop turning the pages. I knew there would be twists upon teists but even then I could never predict what was going to happen next. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and not even for a second, was I bored. The ending completely destroyed me. I was not expecting it and it gave me such a whiplash that I am still not completely over my shock. “Crows remember human faces. They remember the people who feed them, who are kind to them. And the people who wrong them too. They don’t forget. They tell each other who to look after and who to watch out for.” So people, if you havent read this one yet, it would be like missing the ride of your life. Seriously, get this book now and start reading!!! Rating : not even a 1000 stars would do this book justice.

Having completed Book 1, I had to read Book 2 to know what happens in this duology! Leigh Bardugo brings to us an epic conclusion in this fast paced novel! Crooked Kingdom sees Kaz and his crew double-crossed and forced to go underground with almost no allies. Almost all their faces are on wanted posters and it looks like everyone is teaming up. Lured by the promise of jurda parem, everyone is coming to Ketterdam in search of the secret. The story follows Kaz as he once again forms a master mind plan and sets out to execute it with the help of this crew of outcasts and some more people they pick up along the way. Friendships are tested, relationships are strained, new bonds are forged among everyone in this story. With revenge and justice being strong motives as well as a sense of righteousness to get what is owed, the plot lines are brilliant and very well formulated! I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about the characters who somehow make themselves beloved to the reader and who carve a space in their heart and mind! The book is gripping and kept me reading late into the night with an interest to find out what happens next. The author brings a few unexpected twists into the mix and leads us to an almost happy ending (can be interpreted in any way and may differ based on each person's perspective). She also plays to the strengths of each character while also ensuring that they come into their own and discover what they can really do, thus finding their place in the world. This duology is definitely worth reading and describes one of the best heists and revenge plots that I have come across with wonderfully crafted characters who are ruthless and still honorable in their own way. A must read series!

The book was progressing with breakneck speed with gripping storyline, stellar writing, and enchanting character development. Leigh Bardugo did a superb job in bringing the world of Ketterdam to life in this one. “𝕀 𝕨𝕠𝕦𝕝𝕕 𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦. Inej was fabulous and her fight scenes were amazing. It was about time to include Wylan's POV and Bardugo didn't disappoint. The backstory of Wylan and Jesper is very well done. It was nice to see Mathis playing the role of a leader flawlessly, even for a while. Nina's role has been dimmed in comparison to the first book due to aftereffects of Parem. It's one of the series that got me hooked from the beginning and that's saying something. Their harsh situations and determination to survive only increase the excitement especially when it seems like there's no way out. By the end of the book, I was in tears. So, readers beware, it's a roller coaster of emotions. I am so stoked about the next part in the series. I recommend it for the dark fiction lovers. If you do pick it up, then you're in for a lot of twists and pain in the grand scheme of things. 😍

The book came in a great condition! It was packed with so much care. At first I was a little sceptical if I should buy this special edition or not. But after I got my hands on it- I was so glad. I didn't read it yet but I know it's gonna be so good! Y'all should definitely go for it and buy both the books in this very edition! You won't regret it {It has a beautiful Character art at the end of the book :)}

It had the same pace of the previous book and is equally thrilling keeping the readers at their edge. Though it is a long read for me of about two weeks justice was made for the time. The story was not monotonous at any point through out. Kaz Brekkar and his crew wanted to get their side of deal from one of the member of the Merchant Council in Ketterdam. The Six member crew undergoes various plots and twists as and not a part of their plan. Will they succeed in claiming their fair deal? Will they succeed to the lives they dreamnt of? The story also brings in the bond shared by the crew beyond the trade and warfare chaos of the city. I was astonished that such a thriller brought tears in my eyes. The characters are so close to my heart and the part at the end was just wow. It is the evidence that however cruel or selfish one may be he/she can't help his heart from loving the ones staying with them through all odds. The world may show the hell in front of you but it is also equally beautiful on the other hand. However stone hearted one may be there will always be a soft end within. It is really a world where one can get lost in reading. I recommend for every fantasy lover. A must try guys don't miss it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 stars Crooked Kingdom is the sequel to Six of Crows. We follow the same crew where they left off at the end of Six of Crows. The crew most rescue Inej, get revenge and defeat the worse bad guys. I absolutely loved the twisty and creative plot of this story. The scheming is even better than the first book! I love how small things at the beginning of the book all fell in place and were apparently part of the bigger plan. The schemes within schemes are just that I love in books because it keeps me on my toes reading. The stakes just kept getting bigger and it really felt like a rollercoaster reading the book. The group dynamic and banter were seen more in this book. Whereas in the first book they tolerated each other and needed each other to survive, in this book they worked together not perse for their survival. I loved that development compared to the dynamic in the first. And Nina’s love for food in this book is just hands down amazing! Seriously it was built on Kaz’s scheming face and waffles. There was a bit more romance in this book, but it still didn’t overshadow the whole plot and story. It was a nice breath of fresh air between all the action and fast paced scenes in. The characters that I was hoping would acts on their feelings did in their own ways. This made it all very realistic and really nice to read about. (view spoiler) I really loved how the theme of hope just stood out to me. I felt like all the characters were healing/learning from what happened to them in the past. They’re learning, coping and happy. It gave a really hopeful feeling which I really liked. The ending really felt like one the characters deserved. It was an ending that left me wanting more but knowing that it finished in exactly the right place. I hope to see more of them in King of Scars, I’m not really ready to say goodbye to the crew yet. Overall, this book pulled me in just like the first and didn’t let go. An absolute rollercoaster and like jurda parem it leaves you wanting more after you’ve had a taste!

ACHTUNG: kleine Spoiler Genauso gut wie Six of Crows! Ich war genau wie im ersten Band komplett weggehauen von der Action. Das Buch war auch mit tatsächlichen Kämpfen gefüllt, aber viel mehr auch mit einem "Game of Wits" wie man so schön sagt. Also eine Herausforderung, wer den besseren Plan entwerfen kann und den anderen besser überlisten kann. Die zwei Antiprotagonisten haben mir da auch gut gefallen und sie fühlten sich wie eine echte Bedrohung gegen Kaz und seine Crew an! Einer der Dinge die mir am Besten gefallen haben war auf jeden Fall der Charakter Wylan! Ich fande es Schade, dass man von ihm in dem ersten Band nicht so viel gesehen zu bekommen hat. Hier ist es ganz anders. Er spielt eine sehr zentrale Rolle und besonders interessant waren dann auch seine Umstände (also dass er der Sohn von einem der beiden Antagonisten war). Seine Perspektiven haben mir am meisten Spaß gemacht zu lesen. Man hat einen sehr guten Einblick in seine Gedanken und Gefühle bekommen und er ist schnell zu meinem Lieblingscharakter geworden (neben Kaz). Auch konnte man seine Handlungen gut nachvollziehen und er ist über den Verlauf der Geschichte echt herangewachsen. Als er es am Ende seinem Vater gezeigt hat, habe ich mich Fäusten in die Luft geschlagen. So sehr habe ich mich gefreut. ^^ Auch großen Applaus für die Diversity die Leigh Bardugo inkludiert hat. Viele verschiedene Ethnien und auch nicht nur heterogene Beziehungen. Und die Umsetzung hat sich nicht gezwungen angefühlt, sondern natürlich. Auch das Kaz nicht so einfach über seine PTSD hinwegkommt. Es gibt zwar Anzeichen für eine Besserung, es ist aber noch ein langer Weg. (Den sich der Leser selbst ausdenken kann, da es ja offen gelassen wurde) Genauso wie sein kaputtes Bein, bei dem er auf das Heilen von Genya verzichtet hat. Das zeigt, dass eine körperliche Einschränkungen nichts ist, was "geheilt" werden muss. (Genauso wie auch der Analphabetismus von Wylan). Auch da ist mir besonders das Gespräch zwischen den beiden im Kopf geblieben, als sie Van Eck's Safe aufgebrochen haben. Kaz hat gesagt, Wylan sollte sich für seine Kondition nicht schämen, weil die Schande das ist, was ihn tatsächlich einschränkt. Nicht die Konditionen selbst. Die Cameos der anderen Charaktere des Grishaverses haben mich auch so gefreut. Besonders da ich auch ein sehr großer Fan der Reihe bin! Auch das am Ende einer der Charaktere gestorben ist, fande ich nicht schlecht. Bin nicht so ein großer Fan von einem 'Happy End" in dem Sinne. Das hat die Story realistischer gemacht und ich habe beim Lesen selbst um diese Person mit getrauert. Die Zeichnungen von Bonnie McAllister sind soooo hübsch! Dieser Stil gefällt mir sogar noch besser als im 1. Teil. Besonders in die Illustrationen von Wylan (!!), Kuwei, Inej und Matthias habe ich mich einfach verliebt. Am allerbesten immer noch der Schreibstil (in Eng). Alleine das hat einfach gefesselt. Die Art wie sie Szene für Szene beschreibt ist, ist einfach atemberaubend. Absolute Kaufempfehlung! Ich kann gestehen, Six of Crows und jetzt Crooked Kingdom sind die besten Bücher die ich jemals gelesen hab. No joke haha. Meine absoluten Lieblingsbücher.

So if you read my review of Six of Crows, you already know that I was very impressed with Bardugo's story of the Dregs as they try to protect the world from a lethal drug that could potentially weaponize and destroy Grisha. If you didn't read it -- SPOILER ALERT, I was impressed. Also, you should check it out -- but you do you, baby boo. Getting back to my point, having read the Shadow and Bone trilogy, I enjoyed the Grisha-verse but I had some issues with the character development and ultimate ending to that trilogy, so I did not go into this duology with the highest of hopes. Bardugo made some excellent choices as an author that sold me on her ability as a writer, but also as someone able to grow within her own fictional world. Surprised as I was, I did not expect to continue to be surprised as I continued into book two, but man oh man -- Bardugo blew. it. up. Literally -- there are explosions, shoot-outs, enhanced magical abilities, stake-outs, more robberies and plot twists than you could imagine, and just when you think that you know where the story is going, you are left shocked to discover there is an element you never considered. This was the perfect ending to an exciting and no-holds-barred story of the mobster-mentality of the Barrel. What is so impressive is that Bardugo doesn't make the easy choice in almost any aspect of this book. There are moments when readers could feel things leaning towards an inevitable outcome, only to be ripped from the breath of what could of been to slam hard into the reality of what is. One thing I always love and hate about fantasy is that amidst all this chaos, there's always a love story forming/storming/exploring/boring/another -ing word here; I'm hooked because as a reader I want to believe in love and I want to fall in love with the characters, but as a human I am also frustrated because in many ways it feels too far away, too unbelievable. Now, in a world full of magical Grisha who can stop someones heartbeat with a swish of their hand or pull metal shards from the earth and kill someone with them, is it so unrealistic to assume people would find the time to fall in love and share romance? --- uh, yeah. Maybe it's me, but I am always slightly more impressed when the author chooses to acknowledge the reality of the situation instead of just giving us readers the inevitable conclusion we desperately crave. We want the characters to kiss as much as THEY want to, but it's easy to build us to that point and give us what we want. What's harder, is giving us a realistic and vulnerable moment that not only captures the affection we know is lying buried beneath these characters, but honors the fact that someone who's experienced these horrors couldn't realistically move past those experiences quickly enough to fall in love and give themselves to another person. This is where I appreciate Bardugo the most. By telling the story through the eyes of each character, we see the reality of what is; there is love, there is pain, there is vulnerability, there is strength, there is fear, there is longing. Each character experiences emotions we can all connect and identify with. We also see the reality that these characters have incredibly complicated and haunting pasts that live presently with them as they work through these impossible scenarios to stay alive and complete their mission. Are they capable of love? Yes. Do they want love? Yes. Do they give pieces of themselves to other characters? Yes. Can they devote themselves entirely to someone else? No, not yet. The dynamic between Kaz and Inej really brings the brillance of Bardugo's writing to life because she could have easily given readers the ending they all dreamed of; Kaz would change and devote himself to Inej, telling her what she longed to hear and how he really felt. He would trust her enough to be able to touch her, love her and be with her. She would trust him and together they would be unstoppable. That would have just as easily fit into this story line and the build up between the two of them in the first book set the tone for that type of relationship to form and it would have worked. That approach would compromise the character development that is so crucial to this story and would have made it a 4 star read. What makes this book great, rather than just good, is that these characters give what they can, rather than what we, as readers, desperately wish they gave. I won't go any further into detail because I don't want to completely ruin this for anyone who may have yet to read it. Overall, the character development in this story and the dynamic between the Dregs crew is what carried this excellent plot along and allowed readers to fall in love with the Grisha-verse. The mobster-mentality was not something that I was particularly excited about when I first began these books and I was so fully invested in this world thanks to the talented writing. On a more fun note, I loved the nods to Shadow and Bone with the introduction of Genya, Nikolai and Zoya! I always enjoy when books crossover like that and that brought me so many feel-good moments while reading! Overall, this book was filled with amazing plot twists that will leave you at the edge of your seat, but I was most impressed with the relationships and the dynamic between the crew. The realism present in these stories made it such a wonderful reading experience and showed that Bardugo is a force to be reckoned with as an author. Definitely a must-read for any fans of fantasy and fictional worlds. (Just make sure you read the Shadow and Bone trilogy first!)
