A story filled with warmth, compassion, inspiration, hope, and pure love!
This book will stay in your heart long after you've finished the last page. It shows that love and loyalty can come from the most unexpected places when you have given up any hope.

Great Book!
I love that this great book wasn’t spoiled with profanity hitting you in the face at every chapter. Thank you for keeping it real and clean at the same time. It can be done!!! Cheers!!!

Sad, hopeful and affirmative all at the same time
I'm a sucker for animal stories, especially ones with happy endings. I bought this a few months after it was released but didn't read it until recently. I have the second book from the library, waiting it's turn to be read.James was, during the time span of the book, a drug addict. He's in an outpatient rehab program when he acquires Bob. Bob was injured and malnourished when he met James but James took him to a veterinarian, gave him a home, and fed him. They become close, so close that when James leaves the house for any reason, Bob follows. He often ends up riding on James' shoulder since he can't always keep up. James, for the first time in years, is responsible for someone other than himself. He takes pride in caring for Bob while also being somewhat terrified at the responsibility. He learns about cats as he goes and often puts Bob's welfare before his own.Bowen's style of writing is loose and casual, as if he's in a one-on-one conversation with the reader. He's pretty honest with us about his flaws and how he screwed up his life. Hearing him talk about Bob, their relationship, and how Bob helped James turn around and get serious about changing his life was sad, hopeful, and affirmative simultaneously. Bob is quite the personality and James, while a little on the whiny side at times, seems like a decent guy. I'm looking forward to starting the follow up book, "The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Streetwise Cat".

A wonderful "tail"...
What a grand "tail"!! As the mother of four Bob's, I know how unique gingers are. It seems Bob is one of the very best if not THE best!!

Touching and inspiring
As someone who has only lately arrived as a cat person, I found this book very enjoyable. Cats are caring and intuitive companions, and Bob is a perfect example of that. He's serious and silly, goofy and wise, and very loving while still maintaining boundaries. Cats aren't pets, they're partners.

Bob was an amazing cat indeed!
I can definitely say that this was an amazing story to read and learn from. First of all, how it is that a pet can help a human being in such a way that changes our lives, in a good way. Besides, I run into so many new words that I can only guess their meaning by their context. This is one of the best ways to learn new words. I am not that familiar with the British lexicon. I really liked and enjoyed learning so many new terms they use--now I am a little more familiar with them. So, the bottom line for me. Interestingly, we may not be interested in learning about a drug addict and how they may be able to get clean but we are very much interested in learning about an amazing cat--that somehow, is out of the norm. I can see Bob was not a normal cat--he was a very special cat indeed. I always have cats at home and I can attest that each one of them has a very unique behavior that makes them special. I also learned a bit about ginger cats--as I too have one. In fact, he looks just like Bob too.Now looking forward to starting my other two books about this amazing Bob cat. However, the book was very different (better) from the movie. I strongly recommend you read the book, you will love it.
