Will this rod hold the room darkening drapes (cafe style) that Amazon sells?

Yes. I used it to hold modestly heavy blackout drapes. And this was for a 80 inch opening.

What is the maximum weight this Rod will hold?

This rod can add extra tension to withstand different weights. When it adds 1.8”, 2”, 3” extra tension, the corresponding max load capacity are 17.6lb, 22.0lb, 26.5lb. And please kindly note that things must be hung evenly on the rod. Thanks!
