I've bought several
I plan to buy more of these. Someone has already mentioned that they're not really candles -- they're more like kerosene lamps. They do burn a long time, and there's no candle wax to deal with. The wick doesn't extend very far, so the flame is not that bright. I twisted the top, thinking that would extend the wick, but it didn't work for me. Maybe I did something wrong. I eventually got a pair of tweezers and pulled the wick out a little more. That gave me more of a flame and thus more light. It reduces the amount of time the candle will burn, but it's nice to be able to see in the dark. Be sure to keep the plastic top on them when the candle is not in use. It will prevent the kerosene from evaporating. The directions on the candle are simple: Remove cap. Light wick with match. To extinguish, blow out candle. Replace cap. These need to be kept away from high temperatures or the plastic container will melt. I also imagine it's a fire hazard -- considering that kerosene is flammable. They need to be stored upright, or the kerosene will leak out.

A pretty darn good "candle"
Well it's not really a candle, its a wick in "liquid paraffin"... but it is clean burning, smokeless and easy to light. It does have draw backs too, it has a small flame (with the factory adjusted wick length which gives you the 100+ hours [the pictures are of an extended wick, which grows the flame but shortens the burn life]) and is easy to blow out (so I would not recommend this candle for use in even moderately windy conditions or areas). The final draw back is this is not the cheapest place to buy them (unless you only want to buy 1 single candle). If you look at the candle you can clearly see the name Emergency Essentials printed on the label. They are the maker and primary seller of this candle. It's 4.50 a single candle or 4/candle for orders > 12... a pretty good deal if you're in need of a significant stock up of back up light, but shipping kills the deal if you want just one candle.Overall, I like it, Im going to buy a case, just in case, but be aware the pictures are a little misleading on flame size and it is not as hearty as a larger candle flame might be in the wind.

Excellent item for blackouts, camping, emergency car kits...
First of all, these are NOT candles. They are contained oil "lanterns". They burn LIKE a candle, but should definitely NOT be called a candle. That is a safety hazard in itself. These seem to be very well contained. I'm on my first one still. Have burned it for many, many hours, and the oil is holding up very well. It lights very easy. You do not have to do anything to the wick, it doesn't burn down. Just light and go.I am coming up with something to wrap around these to make them more attractive so I don't have to hide them. I think these are great to keep around as candles, but the packaging is well, ugly, but since they are marketed as emergency, looks aren't as important as function! I will be buying more of these once I figure out how to make them look better as candles.I think they're made really well, and will be getting these on a regular basis (until they come out with the 200 hour candle!). :)

Seems like a good deal
I have these for if the power goes out. It’s a fairly good price for a 100 hour burn

Peace Of Mind
Candle arrived well packed, but with no Orange Label like in the photo, just a white label with the item description on the clear plastic container. I tried it, and worked great. The lower wick (as it came originally) will last longer but with a small flame... I like more light. So I just pulled up the wick a little more for a bigger flame with needle nose pliers. You can pull, but can not push the wick back in. Start off by pulling up a little and lighting, to see if you like the flame size. Blow out and then pull up a little more etc... until you like the flame. I re-sealed with the included plastic cap after I was done trying. Worth it for the peace of mind in the event of a power failure at night. I like that there is no smell.

making for a larger flame and a great deal more light
We live in an area that experiences occasional power outages. Sometimes the outages last anywhere from 6 hours up to 6 days. The previous candles performed exactly as expected. They provided safe, dependable, steady light and burned for days. Although the flames were small, with a little work, the opening to the reservoir could be slightly enlarged, allowing the wick to be pulled up slightly, making for a larger flame and a great deal more light. Although we have not needed these new ones yet, we expect them to perform just as well as their predecessors.
