Excellent drum for the money
Straight out of the box this drum sounded pretty much playable, even without tuning. With a bit of tuning, it sounds quite good, even with the cheap stock heads. I imagine with good heads this would be a pretty sweet drum, but it sounds good enough as is that I don't even feel the need to change they heads until they wear out. Fantastic value, also looks nice!I typically play on a vintage acrolite- this is obviously a cheaper snare, but it's a highly functional instrument for the price.

Good drum for price
This is a higher quality drum than I thought it would be. I am a semi pro drummer. 54 yrs experience. I did take drum apart a sand bearing edges smoother. It’s still totally stock. Sounds great in recording. Only complaint is not sturdy enough for consistent moving and set up

Great Drum For The Price.
Great price. Easy, no trouble, shipping. It didn't sound very good with the stock heads, but that is to be expected, even the paperwork that came with the drum suggested replacement. I used Evans HD Dry batter head & an Evans medium snare side. Also I added some lug-washers when re-installing the rims, for easier tightening. It sounds great now. For the price, it is a very nice drum.

It's a ~$50 snare drum - build a trigger with it
I bought a fairly nice piccolo snare to turn into a drum trigger, but the trigger I bought was too tall to mount inside. This Griffin piccolo snare was a cheap alternative, and had the extra 1/2" of height I needed to internally mount the Helensson ITM2 trigger.Make no mistake, this is a cheaply made drum. Frankly, it's amazing they could make any margin at all on this.Everything about it is cheap:- the heads- the throwoff is sticky and rubs metal on metal - I applied a bit of vaseline where metal rubbed metal, and then worked it back and forth - it's better now, but still hard to engage- the tensioning lugs are not a standard diameter (I couldn't slip Danmar tension rod washers over them because the lug diameter was too large)- the tensioning lugs grind when you turn them - adding some vaseline helped, which required completely removing both heads- with the heads off, I could see the wrap was separating from the drum- the bearing edges were rough - I lightly sanded them with a fine grit to knock down the rough spots- the bearing edges were inconsistently cut - nothing I could do about it - but luckily I'm making a trigger with a silent head, so I'm not too worried about consistent tension and tuningI expect this will work perfectly fine as a trigger. I can't imagine using it as an acoustic snare drum, though. You'd be better off buying a used drum from a decent drum store if you want to use this acoustically. But then again, it's ~$50!I gave it 4-stars because I had low expectations of the drum when I bought it, and I expect it to work just fine for my triggering purposes. I gave it 2-stars for sturdiness, and expect to just throw it away when/if something fails on it. As hard as my son hits, that could be in a day, or we might luck out and get more life out of it. I consider this a cheap experiment.

Great value.
Great little snare. Of course you must replace the stock heads, but after that, it sounds wonderful. Great addition to my Bop set!

Great
It’s sounds great when you change the heads, tighten the wires, and tune it.
