Hi, I have an enormous collection of magnetic tiles. Just wondering if the size is half of the bigger ones? Would the magnets line up at all?

I think they will work together with any of the magna tiles.

Will these work with the classic original size?

They work, but won’t connect in the same way. These are about half to a quarter the size of the classic so they make good “toppers” to full size castles, but don’t quite mix perfectly for intermingling in the middle of a build.

Are the magnets exposed externally, or contained internally?

Internally. Would be very hard for a small child to break then and get to the magnets.
