Have fun while learning.
I recently purchased the Scientific Explorer Bubble Gum Food Science Activity Kit for my 8-year-old child, and I must say it exceeded my expectations in every way. This kit not only provided hours of entertainment but also offered a fantastic learning experience. The highlight of this kit is the ability to create gobs of gum using eight different recipes or by getting creative and coming up with our own concoctions. The variety of flavors included, such as watermelon, blueberry, and mint, allowed my child to experiment with different taste combinations and truly unleash their imagination.Overall, I highly recommend the Scientific Explorer Bubble Gum Food Science Activity Kit. It is a fantastic way to introduce children to the world of science while allowing them to exercise their creativity. The kit is well-designed, includes all the necessary ingredients, and provides clear instructions for a successful gum-making experience. It's a great gift for any child aged 8 and older who loves hands-on experiments and wants to have fun while learning.

Messy, but Fun and Tasty Science Project!
I bought this for my 9 (almost 10) year old daughter as a part of her science fair project. We read and understood the directions before we began. At first, I felt a bit overwhelmed as it seemed to be very difficult. The gum base was kept getting hard and extremely sticky but we kept at it and after a few more times in the microwave it was pliable. Also, we had to add more flavor. I couldn't taste the flavor at all using the amount the directions gave. I will say it is a very messy project but definitely fun and tasty!!!Note: if you fully read the directions it does say you may need to put in the microwave for longer, add more water, and add more flavor.

Bubble Gum Factory
I purchased two of these, one for a 12 year old boy and one for an 8 year old boy. I actually thought the 12 year old would enjoy it more than the 8 year old, but I might have been wrong. The personality and curiosity of the boy comes into play with this kit. If your child has no interest in finding out about how things are made and how things work I don't recommend this. But if you have a curious child that enjoys finding out about things this is a good kit. It comes with everything to make gum and I actually chewed some of the gum my grandson made. It was flavorful, very chewy and was great for blowing bubbles and making loud popping noises. It does need adult supervision and muscles. It was somewhat complicated, but as stated previously, the boys now know what is in gum and how to make it. You can make traditional flavors or crazy flavors, depending on your personality and daring. A good change from all the video games everyone owns.

fun project for kids and adults
Lots of fun. The kids had a great time making their own gum and then seeing who could blow the best bubble. Flavors were great, but didn't really stay in the gum for long. After about a minute, the flavor was gone and your were just chewing gum base. I did this with a group of 10 year-olds. After reading previous reviews, I had all my surfaces covered (and the kids wore aprons) and it went off without a hitch. Melting the gum base took longer than they said in the instruction book, but once we got over that hump it went fine.

Don't expect to follow the directions and get the expected results.
I really hate when they market something to kids that even adults can't do. It's get them so excited and then so disappointed. First, do not use a disposable spoon or bowl/cup like they say. You can't stir/push hard enough without snapping the spoon. Second, no matter how much you microwave the gum base, it doesn't become "stirrable". And finally, whatever you do, unless you want stained fingers, countertops, etc, don't use food coloring because you have to move from stirring to the kneading process way sooner than the directions say. Also, use way more powder sugar than suggested to avoid the recipe sticking to everything. Now, there is a positive on this. Despite not being able to have the gum work out as the directions say, my 9 year & 11 year old still love to make the gum. It is tougher than almost leather when its done but they gnaw through it because they like mixing the different flavors.

Idea is fun, but complicated
The idea behind this is a lot of fun and I thought would be a great gift for my niece. However, it turned out to be much more complicated than expected. There are a lot of additional items/ingredients that you will need to get before you can start. Most of them you probably have around the house already, but still makes it inconvenient. It was very messy, time consuming, and the directions were tough to follow. It's also hard because you have to be extremely careful about following the directions perfectly otherwise your batch will be ruined halfway through and there's no going back. It also didn't make very much. Disappointed, and not worth the money.

Very hands on and fun!
My 6 year old son loves gum, so I thought this would be a good toy for him for Christmas. All 3 of my children ended up loving it. They each made their own flavor and it was very easy to do. It did take longer to melt the gum pellets than the instructions say, but no big deal. All parents tell their kids not to play with their gum, but with this kit, you get to play with it during the kneading process. After they were done, we rolled it in saran wrap. I've heard them proudly telling their little friends that they made their own gum :) It tasted pretty good, too.
