OPINEL No. 08 Stainless Steel Folding Knife, Beechwood Handle + Leather Sheath

The knife is made good and is sharp and has a good comfortable sized handle and is a reliable knife, the blade is a thinner blade but in a good way as it helps cut through foods and things. The locking mechanism is good it’s a 2 hand operation but it has no blade play when open it’s secure. The sheath seems to be one of the nicer French made regenerated leather (?) sheaths and feels good and durable and looks great. Overall a very good value I recommend this knife it’s a very historical knife still being made in France for a good price

I’m a chef and I love these knives from France. They are quite legendary in France. Extremely sharp.simply made and will last a very long time. These are made to prepare food and essentials but not to chop wood.

These knives are very well made and easy to resharpen. A nice light weight knife for fishing and taking the hide off a deer. One can’t beat the price.

OPINEL NO. 8 with SHEATH INCLUDED - It's nice to have a folding knife with a sheath. It's more secure on a belt than a standard pocket knife clip for sure. - The belt loop on the back of the sheath will narrowly fit a 2 1/2" wide belt. My 2" wide belt has plenty of room. - The leather of the sheath is quite thin and lightweight. Quite nice as you barely know it's there. - The knife handle size is good and comfortable for my hand, which is about 3 1/4" wide. There's a little extra handle for a slightly larger hand to stay on the handle but not much more. I measure right at 3 1/2" of safe usable handle length. - The knife I received still had a burr on the blade edge. It was not properly finished and honed. I did that myself and is now is good condition. I only used a 1200 grit diamond stone with 10 passes or so on each side then stropped it. - I like the convex grind on the thin blade. Looks nice, cuts nice. - The blade has a sharp 90 degree spine edge on it. Great for fire steel use. - The ring lock works properly. - Overall great value for the money in my opinion. It was $25 at the time of purchase - April 2025.

Great little camping knife. Got a couple for my grand sons who are avid hikers.

Perfect little knife, there's a reason they've been making them for so long! The grip feels nice, the locking mechanism is brilliant, and the leather sheath is a great addition too. Very light and affordable but without suffering from poor quality like many other comparable knives. I'd definitely recommend it and plan to buy more!

Gorgeous craftsmanship

Light weight, sturdy, extremely sharp out of the box, and comfortable handle. This is my first Opinel knife but can honestly say no further need to explore others. I first saw this knife in a Bespoke Post Box but, found it cheaper here. Glad I did. I carry it on my belt every day. I use it for cooking in the kitchen, carving sticks, cutting rope and cords, nylon straps. I use it every day for anything and everything. And, no. need to sharpen it after one month of daily use. I suggest buying the item with sheath so you can quickly attach it to your belt. And the price is awesome.

Absolutely fantastic utility knife! Received by next-day delivery and I was highly impressed by the quality of the product! It comes in its own little display like box with the knife and sheath secured inside. The knife is a decent weight and is extremely sturdy so there is no risk of it falling apart anytime soon! The blade is a carbon steel blade and is already ground to an extremely sharp edge and is accompanied by a beautiful Beech handle with a smooth finish to it! Opinel is a fantastic brand that is definitely reliable and this is reflected in their products! Will definitely be expanding my Opinel collection soon!

Früher oder später kommt man an einem Opinel nicht vorbei. Wer kann auch schon seinem schlichten Charme widerstehen? Da ich meine Messer ungern direkt in der Hosentasche trage, habe ich mich für das Set mit dem Kunstleder-Etui entschieden. Das Messer selbst ist ganz ordentlich verarbeitet, wenn auch Kleinigkeiten das Gesamtbild etwas trüben. So ist der Klingenstand nicht ganz mittig und an der Ausfräsung für die eingeklappte Klinge waren noch einige Fasern des Holzes übrig, was sich aber verschmerzen lässt und mit ganz wenig Aufwand und etwas Geschick selbst beheben lässt. Fabrikneu ist der Klingengang evtl. etwas schwergängig, nach 2 Tropfen Kamelienöl auf die Klingenachse war aber bereits eine deutliche Verbesserung spürbar. Der werkseitige Anschliff der Schneidphase war etwas grob und gratig. Darüber könnte man sich jetzt ärgern, wenn man aber bedenkt, dass es sich beim Opinel um ein maschinell gefertigtes Massenprodukt handelt, sollte man nicht erwarten, dass die Klinge im Werk von Hand abgezogen wird. Das habe ich selbst gemacht und eine hervorragende Schärfe erzielt. Die Klinge hat eine sehr schöne und brauchbare Form, ist satiniert und hat einen Flachschliff über die gesamte Höhe, die 17mm beträgt. Länge 84mm, bei 1,7mm Dicke. Der Griff liegt aufgrund seiner Form sehr gut in der Hand und ist knapp 11cm lang. Die Maserung des Buchenholzes ist sehr ansprechend. Das Gewicht des Messers beträgt 46,2 Gramm. Über die Genialität des Virobloc-Verschlusses muss sicher nicht mehr viel gesagt werden. Die Arretierung der Klinge funktioniert einfach und sehr zuverlässig. Das mitgelieferte Etui ist sehr gut verarbeitet und das Kunstleder hat eine sehr schöne Farbe. Die Nähte sind hervorragend und gleichmäßig gefasst. Sicher wäre ein Etui aus echtem Leder etwas schöner, für ein so schlichtes Messer, wie das Opinel, ist aber auch Kunstleder völlig in Ordnung. Für die Größe №8 ist das Etui perfekt dimensioniert, das Messer sitzt straff, lässt sich dennoch problemlos entnehmen. Über den Sinn des Karabiners ließe sich streiten. Wenn man das Etui am Gürtel trägt, ist dieser eher störend. Falls man das Messer am Rucksack o.ä. befestigen möchte, kann der Haken durchaus sinnvoll sein. Der Druckknopf könnte für meinen Geschmack etwas straffer schließen. Alles in allem ist dieses Set sehr empfehlenswert. Wenn man den Preis berücksichtigt, ist das, was man dafür bekommt, sehr in Ordnung!
