Wonderful product!
This car seat is amazing. I have never felt compelled to write a review before but this car seat is worth every penny. I have a dog who had spinal surgery recently. Traveling with him quickly became a nightmare because he was used to sitting on my lap, but that isn't possible with his injury. I could not use a doggie harness : seatbelt or booster seat because if I stopped short, the pulling on his spine could be catastrophic, but a crate would allow him to slide around - not good! The seat is so comfy, even my incredibly opinionated dog quickly transitioned to being a big boy and sitting in his own seat. I love that even without clipping him into the seat (though I do recommend it!) he doesn't move, bounce or slide. It's exactly what I was looking for and never thought I'd find! It is a little difficult to remember how to put it back in the seat, so keep the instructions handy! Also, I have a two door car with "sports seats" and the fit isn't quite as perfect as it could be with a sedan.... I modified it by putting a firm base under the part (otherwise it sloped downward- stupid car!) But it still works great and I am happy with it. I tried it in a friend's car and it is perfect in a sedan or non-sporty car. Overall, well worth the money to keep my dog safe. i know he will be protected if anything were to happen, or even just hard braking. My son (dog) is staying put.

Good product that needs a few improvements.
I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to put my two cents out into the world about this product. We bought two Pup Savers because we were driving across the country and couldn't imagine not having our dogs restrained in some way. I did a lot of research and chose the Pup Saver because of its good reviews and because it is crash-tested. It also looked (and is) very comfortable for my dogs. And overall, I am very glad we bought these. Driving the dogs across the country was a breeze and my once chronically carsick beagle did not get sick once during sixty hours of driving. Amazing. I have two issues with the seat, however. The first, as others have stated, is that the back will begin to curve down over the dog over time. This is incredibly annoying. We've gotten to the point where we have to tie the handle of the car seat to the headrest of the seat in front of it with the dog's leash. It's kind of ridiculous and also defeats the purpose of the encasing action that would happen in the event of a crash. I don't know how else to fix this issue, though. I feel like the back of the car seat could have some sort of flexible but firm mechanism that holds it up, but I'm no designer. It is frustrating. The second problem connects with the first. I find the seat a bit annoying to put in and out of the car. I wouldn't even bother to remove it except that because the back folds over so drastically, there's no way I have found to keep the seat in the car during periods of non-use because by the time I am ready to use it again, it has become a burrito. It definitely prevents me from taking my dogs in the car more often, which is a bummer. Overall, I think this is a good, important product that could be excellent with just a few minor tweaks.

Safety and comfort
I purchased the PupSaver in 2015. It has been in a car accident and moved countless times between the front and back seats of 4 different cars. I originally purchased it because my rescue dog barked up a storm when I strapped him in the backseat. I think his original owner let him sit on their lap while driving - a definite safety no-no. I installed the PupSaver in the passenger seat and he adapted immediately. He can still see out the side window and most importantly, he can see his me. This thing is so comfortable that he usually goes right to sleep (after he gets his car-treat, of course). Right now it's on the patio getting another wash job so we'll see how it fares. Besides being a little grubby because I rarely give it a big wash, the PupSaver has been incredibly durable. When it finally gives up the ghost, I'll definitely get another because buying peace of mind for $190 is a bargain!

This is the best purchase I have made so far for my 11lb ...
This is the best purchase I have made so far for my 11lb rescued Yorkie. It fits snuggly in the front seat of my Prius. Although I have to agree with the other review which stated that the placement of the safety tether directly in the middle of the seat is odd, it doesn't bother my pup at all. She is still able to sit and lay down comfortably and best of all stick her head out of the window. Also have to agree with my dislike for the cheap plastic safety clip but I attached a metal carabiner to it and problem solved. I also attach it to my dogs harness NOT to her collar. The front of the safety seat did collapse down the first time I installed it but that was easily solved by literally using my body weight to fold it in half vertically for 30 seconds- the instructions do mention this but they aren't exactly clear- I pushed and squashed it together and that solved the collapsing problem- also I tightened the top of the seatbelt with the clip attached but leave a bit of slack so that the seat belt is not forcing the top of the seat down either. With those few modifications I feel that my money was well spent and am very happy knowing that my dog is safe while she's riding with me :)

Safety first
I've rated this seat 5 stars because I've had 2 other 'car seats' used in the past and my Cavalier seemed really anxious in them and would not lay down. She seems much more relaxed in this one and I'm more comfortable knowing she won't be jerked forward if there is a sudden stop. It's easier to install than I expected, yay! The one thing I have not been able to figure out is how to adjust the strap that clips to her harness. It's currently not long enough for her to be able to turn around. I have not (yet) had an issue with the back folding in on top of the dog, but I've only used it for a couple of weeks. I did place a towel underneath toward the seat back to make her seat more level - there also was a gap between car seat and dog seat, she was sliding down and catching her legs between them. Time will tell. how well this seat holds up but so far so good.

Happy, Safe Furry Friends
My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel loves this seat, and so do I. I use it in the front passenger seat, and he can see out the window, and I can reach over and give him a touch occasionally, I purchased the black and white, so before using it the first time, I covered the seat with a whelping mat I had left from his younger days, cutting a slit in the center for the strap/hook to come up through. This keeps his dirty and/or muddy feet from spoiling the cover. We get a lot of rain in my area. I don't like to hook onto his neck collar, so I always have a harness on him to attach to the metal ring on the harness. It isn't always really easy to get him to crouch down low enough for the initial hook-up, but it pays off in the security. He settles down and either sits or lies down for the ride. Before having this, I required him to ride in a carrier. This is so much better and still is safe. The design is genius. I'd looked at using a child's carseat for the same reason, but just couldn't get it to make sense for the positioning of my dog. This is a little more money than I'd hoped to pay, but I'm satisfied and will use it for many years. My pup's safety is primary. No riding on a lap or hanging out a window! Ever!
