## Description

The Cold Steel Kukri Plus Machete features the same wide, curved blade that makes our Kukris capable of delivering the kind of performance that's the envy of many swords or bushcraft tools, but with the addition of an integral solid steel guard for added protection and safety. Its full tang is completely encapsulated in a comfortable and durable polypropylene handle that has been ergonomically designed for comfort and safety, allowing you to keep a secure grip on the Machete even in the most inclement conditions. Featuring a rust resistant baked on matte black coating, the fully sharpened and expertly tempered 1055 Carbon Steel blade is safely and securely carried in a sturdy Cor-Ex sheath.

Review: Fabulous - Extremely well built, very sharp out of the box. The sheath is good, it has plastic inside to protect from the blade which is great. I used it to trail blaze and was very happy with the results. The handle is good, its strong but if you throw it (i like throwing knives with my cousins) it will come lose, but not enough to make it unsafe. Finish is also good but it will come off after a few months of steady use. Very slowly, nothing to be worried about i wouldn't think.
Review: The Royal Kukri machete's little brother. - I have the Royal Kukri machete and love it. It's heavy enough to cleave larger limbs like that of longer machetes, but the curve allows you to do so in a shorter package. However, if you want something shorter and lighter, as the Royal Kukri machete is still a heavy beast, the Kukri Plus machete is the way to go. Before I go any further, I am aware that this is not a "real" kukri. It doesn't have a thick spine and heavier convex edge that an actual kukri does. So if you are a Kukri fanboy that is getting all worked up because a mere machete is masquerading as your beloved kukri, stop...calm yourself...you're an idiot. What this cutting implement is, is a machete with a forward curving blade that helps to draw material into the edge. It does look like a sirupate kukri, but it's not. Okay now that's done. The blade came with a slight wire edge, but was ground symmetrically. Furthermore the black coating was not the usual matte finish, but a thicker satin coating. I have one other machete that has this finish. It makes me wonder if Cold Steel has two factories or contractors in South Africa and one uses this enamel finish. Either way it has stood up to medium use everyday for a week with only a loss of sheen. The handle is the same as found on the Kukri machete. It’s noticeably smaller than the handle on the Royal Kukri machete but would only feel too small to people with large hands. Unlike the smachet machete and the cutlass machete, the handle is molded rubber with striations on the front and back with checkering on the sides. It’s very grippy and holds up well on the other machetes I have used for longer. The sheath is the usual nylon with a thin plastic lining. The end cap is a single piece of plastic and the cutting edge side has metal rivets reinforcing the seam. There are two snaps on the spine so the curve of the blade doesn’t make for a wide sheath. There is one caveat about this style of blade. They can be difficult to use. Where as straight bladed machetes can be swung with only passing attention to what part of the blade the material contacts, a forward curved machete is quite picky. If you strike too far forward or to far back on the edge, it will dramatically reduce the depth of your cut. Like the kukri it’s modeled after, these are not the easiest blades to use without practice. If I was going to hand someone a machete, it would be a straight bladed one. I love the forward curving blades, and they can cut like demons, but they require special attention to work most efficiently. All of that to say, don’t get this for your first machete. Grab an 18” Latin machete or a 14” bolo. It’ll be easier to use. Overall a good, compact machete that is easy to swing in close confines. Would recommend to anyone that is not buying their first machete.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Some finish issues
*by N***K on April 29, 2016*

This is an initial review, I have not had chance to test it in the field yet. I will update only if I am severely disappointed, or surprisingly thrilled. Out of the package, it seems alright, but there are some issues. Aside from it being as sharp as a butter knife out of the package, the grind appears to have been done by a one-eyed 3 year old. It starts way to one side at the choil, makes its way to the middle at the throat of the blade, then over to the opposite side at the tip. It makes sharpening interesting, but hopefully won't affect function. Took an edge, time consuming, but the 1055 should hold it well. UPDATED: I have used this a fair bit now in the field, and feel like I can make a proper assessment. The handle, sucks. The grip is far too small, and the plastic material is really rough on the hands. I find myself getting blisters even with heavy work gloves. The weight is insufficient, the 1/8" thick spine seems fine as a machete, but by design this doesn't really work as a machete since you can't generate the speed necessary for a swing, and the thickness doesn't make for very good slicing. A kukri should be more than 1/4" thick normally, which is why this isn't even that great as a chopper. That being said, once you wrap the handle, and adjust your expectations, it can still be a very useful tool. It does make a good replacement for a large knife and small hatchet. It does not replace a machete, axe, or normal knife. The steel so far is the best part of this tool. It takes an edge well, holds it well, and the blade does not warp or chip with use. With proper technique, this can actually take down good sized saplings. Working in a circle around the base, chopping with light strikes all in a downward direction, I was able to take out a cluster of 3" thick vine maples and a few alders in short order with minimal effort. Swinging harder makes more effort with the same results. Maintaining a sharp edge makes all the difference, I keep it shaving sharp. I tried the show the grind in photos, but it is difficult. 2nd to last pic gives a pretty good idea of how bad it gets towards the tip
